This was my first stop on the second to last day of my trip and it was such a good experience for me. I liked how the whole café was small but they made use of the space with the waters in the hinged wall as well as the utensils and most of all the condiments that you would need in a hidden pull out compartment under the table. Honestly, i didn’t know what to expect coming here because we had café de coral before and I was already falling in love with that, but I liked the breakfast here, as it was extremely light even though I got noodles first thing in the morning. I had gotten the combo which included eggs, ham, toast and the preserved cabbage(I actually liked this so much more than preserved mustard greens) with pork and vermicelli noodle soup. Honestly, I think this is a good place because I can’t speak any chinese and the menu has these gorgeous pictures that made me wish I lived in Hong Kong. They have western style breakfast with items that have a traditional Hong Kong twist on them. Trust me some of the selections look extremely salivation worthy. Another thing to note is that often times you will be sharing tables with someone else, since the café is pretty tight. My love and I say with another couple across from us and if it weren’t for him not liking to be friendly in the morning and my lack of chinese skills, I am pretty sure I would have made friends ! Maybe people aren’t as open to talking to random strangers, but I think it would be a good place to bring friends for a different experience.

Found this place on Unilocal because we were looking for a place that serves some good old fashioned HK milk tea. I also thought they had duck and I was craving for it but it turns out they don’t. They serve goose instead which tastes pretty similar to duck but the texture was kind of tough and dry. I’m not sure if it was supposed to be like that or if they cooked it wrong cause it’s the first time I’ve had goose. We ordered this rice plate combo(choice of 2 meats) so we chose the goose and BBQ pork and the rice noodles with beef in Swiss sauce. The rice plate was pretty simple — meat, white rice, and some boiled cabbage. The noodles were very oily and saucy but it was good when I paired it with some rice. The milk tea came in this bowl of ice and there’s no ice inside the cup, probably so it doesn’t get watered down. I loved it! Nice and strong and not extremely sweet. I really like the concept of the ice in the bowl! It was cute :)

I’ve been dining here for the longest time. Fond memories of my grandma taking me here during our frequent trips to Hong Kong when I was a kid. I always did find it strange that we would have to share a table with a complete stranger but that’s how it was back then. Fast forward to last week, when we made a stop by Hong Kong to take care of a few things on our way back from the Maldives. We were in the area and felt like cha-gai fan found our way back here. Boy have things changed over the past two years. Tai Hing has gone through a major renovation and is no longer a total hole in the wall restaurant. The one thing that hasn’t changed is the food . Still hanging outside the front are their bbq items . This is what I was craving and thus what we ordered to eat . Nothing back in LA compares to how good this tastes here. Stopping by Tai Hing is a must each and every time we come back to Hong Kong. A clever way to serve iced milk tea just so that the ice doesn’t dilute the milk tea . This is a chain but each one I’ve been to tastes just as good as the other ones.

Love everything from Tai Hing. Their rice noodles with beef in Swiss sauce(瑞士汁炒牛河) is my all time favourite. Besides that, I also love their BBQ pork(叉燒), roasted goose(燒鵝), iced milk tea in an ice bowl so the ice won’t turns into water and blend in with your milk tea(冰鎮奶茶).

Sure it is a bit pricey for the food they serve, but the quality is up there. Had a great tea set of minced pork and mushroom vermicelli. Reasonable deal at ~$ 45 for good size bowl of noodles, plenty of meat and veg plus a drink.

Our first stop in Hong Kong was at Tai Hing for their char siu! The place was pretty busy when we got there, but the restaurant had enough tables to accommodate 8 of us. The BBQ pork was very tender and juicy, and it tasted very different from what I’ve been used to eating in Toronto. We ordered several other dishes and they all tasted great. I highly recommend this restaurant for their BBQ meats.

After passing this place in search for some western café style dishes more along the lines of baked seafood and baked pork chop over rice, I eventually was taken here to eat for a late afternoon meal with some family. We sat down and ordered a plate of char siu, minced meat over rice, sticky rice, chicken over rice, and spam, egg, and bok choy over rice(sorry I don’t remember the names of the dishes in Chinese). For the 5 dishes, each came with a drink so we ordered lemon tea, Holick, and milk tea. The meal was roughly 275 hkd(about 36 usd) Though this isn’t what I consider the western café style I tend to crave, this was a pretty delicious meal that was quite filling.

Eating in HK is never complete without tasting their famed roast goose leg. Watch enough Jackie Chan gung-fu movies and you’ll understand why ‘roast goose’ is so important to chinese cuisine! In Tai Hing, the roast meats are all very good. Roast pork with the crispy crackling skin, roast goose with the juice still dripping and sausages and other meats, oh my! The menu is huge and jam packed with photos. Just point to what you like! Don’t take too long, though, the place is always crowded and people are generally in a hurry! If I am with a few people, I will order one of their mixed roast meat platters(some of everything!), a vegetable dish and a soup. If I am alone, I will go for the no-frills(but you’d get knowing nods from the loud wait staff) — Roast goose leg with white rice and a salted egg on the side.(see pic!) Wash everything down with a milky sweet iced tea. Heaven. Expect to spend approximate HKD$ 80 per person.

chain is all over, and sometimes you just want some roast meat without going very far, and this works out best.
