Typical Canadian not used to walk that much! After 2 hours walking in Mong Kok area, we were so tired and had to find a place for rest. We passed by Urban Café Commune and found they serve«Western coffee and cakes». Who’s care!!! I needed a place to rest and cup of coffee to wake me up. My hubby and me are coffee drinker, we don’t drink espresso in tiny cup coz it’s not satisfy our craving. Haha… Americano — It didn’t taste strong enough to us, taste lighter than Starbucks Americano. Latte — I suspected no 1⁄3 espresso and 2⁄3 steamed milk ratio. It tasted so milky. I ordered the cake the share… It didn’t taste made from fresh cream(probably butter cream which made the cake feel like glue. Sorry… not my cup of tea.

The servings are huge! I didn’t have any expectations on Urban since it’s in a mall and the place is too cool-looking but the food is topnotch, especially the kimchi burger and the steak. Fries are exceptional as well.

Urban Café is a uniquely decorated fusion food fest that fits Mong Kok. It’s big on portions and big on style, with suitably pleasant service. If your looking for something a bit different and don’t mind the wait on the weekend this place might be for you. Urban Café Commune is a part of a new look and feel in the renamed Moko mall. Situated on the second floor in a semi open atrium space the look and feel is reminiscent of 90s punk meets New York diner. Highlights include a neon sign claiming to be the hottest chicken in town, and interesting, if not overly clean, graphics sprayed on to his booth walls. The rotisserie chicken is the star of the show. Though has roasted chicken comes, make sure you know what you are getting into, they serve you almost half the chicken. As rotisserie chicken come, this version is a rather authentic all American fair, with heavy pepper seasoning, crispy skin, but still moist to the bone. Gravy and sauces are however absent. Other dishes tried fared well, though not outstanding in any regards. The kimchi burger is one of the better burgers in town. The lobster bisque is a bit thin, but not bad for the overall price of the meal. And that comes to the conclusion, for 100 – 200 per head Urban Café Commune, though not amazing is a solid choice for any hungry Hong Konger. With a drink, a decent soup, and a hearty main course, it offers food portions in spades with a healthy dose of urban character to boot. Good choice for a MK restaurant.
