Cup

I don’t often review a place after only one visit but they left such strong impression that I had to leave a review.
This is a great café. Their flat white was the best I had when in Dublin and the brownie was fantastic. The interior is welcoming, the prices are reasonable, and the service was fast. I wish I had more time to try them again, as the rest of their pastries looked inviting and I could always use another bit of high quality caffeine.
My love of this place is a lot because they showed service well beyond what’s needed. I accidentally left an item that was very important to me. They both tweeted that this item was left in their café and took good care of it when waiting for me to return. It’s a small thing to most people but it made the difference between just a place with nice coffee and a place that truly cares. And it’ll be where I go for coffee he next time in Dublin, no matter how far within the city I’d need to travel to get there.

Absolutely loved this little café. It is easy to find because it’s right on the strip. From what I can this café is seemingly popular with the locals & tourists alike. The baristas greeted a few of the diners by name. I like that because when I’m traveling I like dining in places where the locals hang out in; it just seems more authentic.
So I had the Soup, salad and ½ Sandwich. The food was good. I had the Tomato Bisque and a ham & cheese sandwich. Simple stuff but quite delicious.

Lovely service, and the café is very cute. Not a lot to choose between it and the many other cafes in the area but they do have a great supply of magazines if you’re solo.

I’ve been ignoring this place for a while since I can get cheaper breakfasts elsewhere, but I was pretty hungry today and figured I should check it out. On first glance, the selection looks great! Beautiful sandwiches and pastries fresh out of the oven, and a good amount of people inside enjoying food.
I ordered an egg & cress sandwich, and it was delicious! The bread they used was really tasty, and I think that was what made the sandwich (egg and cress by themselves aren’t really that interesting).
I also asked for some tea, and that’s where I was a bit disappointed. The teapot is ceramic and slightly difficult to hold — I almost burned myself on it trying to pour my tea. The cup is even worse — it’s got a little handle that I can only fit the tip of my pinkie through, so clearly I’m supposed to be holding more of it, but it’s piping hot! It also doesn’t hold much, so I’m currently drinking about a ½ cup of tea instead of a respectable cup or more.
Aside from the tea service issues, I like the place! I’ll have to come back and get some pastries some time.

I love this place. The food is great the coffee is strong and the people are wonderful. Two thumbs up! It’s a little pricey but so is everything else in Dublin.

Great little café very near to the National Gallery. The interior is very minimal, but inviting. There are a few tables for outdoor seating available. Great relaxed atmosphere, bob Marley was playing when I went in. The baristas are nice and fun too.
Their drinks are very inexpensive and are fantastic. My flat white was perfectly made and they are quick when it comes to making drinks. You can also get a glass of water to rehydrate before or after your drink.
They have soup and sandwiches as well if you’re looking for a bite to eat.

Cup is one of my favourite coffee shops in Dublin, the coffee is simply amazing! I usually order a soy cappuccino or flat white and they are always made to perfection.
The food is pretty quite good too, they have mainly sandwiches, wraps, salads and soup. The price is quite reasonable and the seating it nice albeit a bit cramped. The staff are friendly too.
A nice place to go when the weather is nice since there is outdoor seating as well.

I was dying to try Cup since it opened and decided to head there for some coffee and breakfast last week. The food and service were extremely disappointing — my baked eggs were overbooked and flavourless. The only plus was the coffee.

Hmm, I don’t know. I just wasn’t blown away by this place.
I agree, their coffee is good, but for somewhere that prides themselves in highfive-​worthy coffee, they do a pretty crummy job at frothing the accompanying milk. Call me high maintenance, but I look a bitta «vavavoom» in my jo, and that latte was flatter than a flat white made with rice milk.
As I sat sippin’n’slurpin’, I did notice a steady stream of regulars coming in ordering coffees though so maybe I just got the runt cup of the «Cup» cubs?..
One thing that would bring me back to this place above all else though would be the saweeeeet choons that were bopping out of the soundspeakers –a lovely mixture of motown, old school jazz and chilled country blues. That music epitomised easylistening and I found myself *whistling with appreciation!
*until I noticed myself and immediately stopped –noone likes an indoor whistler.

Cup is great. It just kind of has everything you want from a local coffee shop. Great coffee, a cosy indoor seating area, a lovely outdoor seating area for those days when the sun turns up for half an hour, tasty sandwiches and delicious treats.
This place is in a perfect location for anyone in TCD, it’s a nice way to take a break from campus but still get back to class or the library, or whatever it is you do there, in no time.
I just tried their chicken, bacon, lime mayo and cheddar sandwich after a recommendation on Unilocal and it was really tasty, served with a side of crinkly crisps. Their bread is from the Bretzel bakery (
) apparently, which was particularly nice. And they take pride in their coffee; they say they get regular training from 3Fe’s Colin Harmon. It seems like a real effort is put into getting the best of Dublin’s food and drink in one place.
It’s a pity Cup doesn’t stay open any longer than 6pm, which isn’t in any way practical if you’d like to get a coffee there with a friend after work. And to be honest, the seats inside are rather uncomfortable, but I guess that’s the Scandinavian fashion for you. It looks great though. I’d still wholeheartedly recommend this place, both on your own or for meeting up with friends. It’s got a nice vibe to it, modern but warm.

This is an interesting but nothing outstanding location. I give three rather than two stars because the service was above the average coffee shop.
Finally, it was not full of hippie wannabes but rather busy little blooming capitalists trying to figure out how to take over the world.

A great little café. Love the décor, and the staff are very helpful. The scones are served adorably with little pots of jam. It’s not inexpensive… scone and tea costs over four euro. It’s kinda okay pricing. I do love being able to chill in there though, some cafes kinda rush you out but they don’t seem to mind me chilling out here with my book. A nice spot.

If you weren’t looking for this place, you might just pass it by. I tried this place out for the first time from a recommendation from a friend on Unilocal.It just so happened to be one of the nicest days of the year so the first bonus was outdoor seating. When you walk in, you get this great feel off of the store with its brick walls, basic wooden tables, dark floors. When I walked in I was greeted by a smiley and bubbly barista. I though Cup Café only did coffee but they do cakes, sweets, brunch/​lunch and whole bean coffee.
If I had known they did brunch, I certainly would have saved room. The selection of coffee drinks is pretty standard but the sweet treats looked pretty amazing. Scones, brownies, cakes, cookies… chocolate or fruity, light or decadent. Since there were a few other people who had ordered before me, the barista brought me out my latte once it was ready which put that little extra personal touch on the service. While I was in the queue ordering I also saw they have a lunch special for ½ sandwich + soup and ½ salad (can’t remember off my head but something similar) all for € 7.95. That’s a steal of a deal!
My only criticism is that it’s only open until 6pm on week nights. I love mid-​week coffee after work to meet up for a chat, but a 6pm close doesn’t really allow me to do so.

Cup. A one syllable name usually means hipster heaven, and although this place is hip, it’s not obnoxious about it. I enjoyed an Americano outside here over the weekend. I always take my coffee black, so I think I’m a pretty good judge of the coffee’s flavor without milk or sugar diluting the taste. From other reviews I read, there was mention that they used the Has Bean coffee which apparently is a pretty big deal? This was my first experience with Has Bean, and although I can appreciate its flavor, have to say it’s not my favourite. That’s not to say I won’t be back, because I will. There quite a few food items that I’ve been daydreaming about trying since I left the place, so I ‘m looking for another opportunity in the near future to go back and try.

I’ve been having a mini love affair with Cup… if you had come the last two weeks you’d have found me at the corner both weekends munching and sipping away while reading my nerdy novels.
AMAZING coffee — they use Has Bean coffee! I usually order myself a cappuccino… or two… or three… yes I’m addicted.
The bacon, chicken, lime mayo (?) baguette sandwich… is…EPIC. I’ve had it twice now and both times found myself tearing up. It comes with a side of sour cream and onion ridged crisps… how can you say no?
The toffee cake is yummy, the chocolate chip cookie too crunchy.
Outdoor and indoor seating is available — no free wifi though :(.

I attended the Unilocal DVD Club here last night and the coffee was delicious. The latte I ordered was smooth and full of flavor.
According to their website, this café should serve salads, cakes, pastries and a delicious looking breakfast bagel. However, we arrived at 5 o’clock and very little in the way of food seemed available, so maybe this was the result of a busy day’s trade?
My friend ordered their last croissant which the staff offered to heat up before delivering it to our table with complementary jam and butter. She didn’t offer me any of it so I’m guessing it was nice. The staff were good and it’s cool to have floor service in a café.
Cup has heated outdoor seating so it’s ideal if you need to be outside in the cold Winter nights. It also has unisex toilets, so don’t freak out if you meet a member of the opposite sex washing their hands.
All in all, totally worth a visit.

Given its Hasbean coffee cred, I found myself willing to brave the uncomfortable, darting-​and-​trundling masses of wispy-​thin Nassau Street to investigate. The interior was starkly modern, though not too coldly so. They do a sit-​down service, where they come to you after you’ve taken your seat, restaurant-​style, though without menus this probably better suits their regulars.
I ordered a Flat White (it’s admittedly become my favorite coffee drink since moving to Dublin — the halfway house between a latte and a more hardcore straight espresso shot). It arrived and was nutty, smooth; delicious. The barista fellow was attentive & kind, with a nervous-​jittery temperament a part of me finds endearing.
Per usual, I wish the seats were comfier. Also — props for carrying the Bundaberg Ginger Beer that I love, but at € 2.40? Versus the usual € 1.49 at my local shop? Harharhar, nah. Brilliant coffee though.

Cup is really well placed for me and other Trinity types given the dearth of good coffee around campus (Fixx & Carluccio’s aren’t bad to be fair to them, just not brilliant), and I’ve gone in quite a few times recently for the espresso-​fix.
Another independent business which is supplied by the brilliant Hasbean, so you know their coffee is going to be good — they have their own house blend of beans too, which is top notch. Prices are great — cheaper than Brother-​Hubbard & Roasted Brown — and a double espresso will only cost you 2 quid.
Lovely selection of cakes/​brownies etc and decently priced sandwiches (sausage bap looks great… it’s on the to-​try-​for-​brunch-​list for sure); atmosphere is nice too — only a small place, but well laid out. It has a little outdoor seating area at the front too (covered, thank god). They have acoustic sessions there on Saturday afternoons too, which could be interesting.
Best place for coffee near Trinity for sure.
