There’s some bad Karma around Karma Stone! I went last Saturday afternoon for lunch knowing full well the amazing selection of cafés nearby but decided to give Karma a go because the heavens were bucketing down and needed to get out of the rain. I’ve visited a few times before but only for a drink(they’ve got good drinks promotions) and been meaning to try out their food menu. It’s very dark inside and TV’s are showing the sports of the day. I asked if the student menu was running as it was a Saturday and was then handed the menu. Just the normal menu but with 20% discount. I ordered the Vegetable stir fry which was basically oil with vegetables. Huge GMO cherry tomatoes not even cut up and all the vegetables tasted like they came straight out of a plastic bag. After each bite I had to wipe away oil from my mouth. The water tasted very odd, perhaps the glass was dirty beforehand or maybe it was the ice but I couldn’t finish it. On going up to the bar to pay I reminded the waitress of my student discount to which I was told the discount is only Monday-Friday. I persisted that I had already mentioned I was a student before ordering the meal however she then turned around printed up the full price receipt and slapped it down on the bar. Granted the 20% extra in price was small. Furthermore the waitress never directly said the student menu was running, rather she handed me the menu when I asked for the student menu which I interpreted for it to be running. It was that she was so rude and aggressive in handling the situation that upset me more than the breakdown in communication. The whole experience was atrocious. Georges street right up the way into Rathmines has some of the best pubs, cafes and restaurants in Dublin, Karma Stone is not one of them. Avoid!
