The quicksilver store in St Stephens green shopping center is set in the back corner near Dunnes stores. The entry way is set about 8 feet high with 12 immediate stairs and unfortunately limits the customers who can enter. As I am usually shopping withy 2 year old and his buggy, this means this would limit my access to the store. Those with handicaps can forget about it also. The entry way being elevated like this seems to make no obvious sense either as none of the other stores are arranged this way. I like the clothes and have worn their cargo shorts and tshirts which images of waves crashing in my younger years. I find them quite expensive now though and I can’t recall if this was the case in my teenage years — 35 € for a simple tshirt really? You are better off finding an equivalent at TK Maxx or H&M for 10 € or less.

This Australian sportswear brand has a fabulous store in the Stephen’s Green Shopping Centre, with cool, stylish gear for both Shielas and blokes. In Oz, a lot of its clothes are bought up the surfer dude crowd but our lack of waves on Dolymount strand doesn’t mean that you can’t enjoy the clobber. Think fitted hoodies and t-shirts, three quarter-length shorts in floral madras and swimwear for hardbodies.

This is a huge, flagship store for Quicksilver in Ireland in Stephen’s Green Shopping Centre. Dublin is probably not the best place for such a shop because a. there are no waves here and b. our climate is certainly not conducive to swanning around in board shorts and little summery surfy dresses. Prices are quite high too. All factors have resulted in a well stocked shop with zero customers.

I used to be a huge fan of the surfer look. Roxy was my brand of choice and I sported everything from sandals to board shorts to my backpack emblazoned with their logo. While I have long out-grown that surfer girl phase(which happened immediately after my ska girl phase) I have retained a soft-spot in my heart for the look, and especially for these two brands. The store is chock-full of apparel, accessories and footwear geared towards and outdoorsy lifestyle. Everything is pretty much high-quality cotton and well-made. Nothing too outrageous, just nice casual wear. Quiksilver and Roxy are not cheap, but you get what you pay for. Their merchandise is durable enough to withstand a life outdoors or a life city-bound. Whatever way you live, you can be sure that your Quiksilver hoodie will withstand the test of time and probably become your favorite.

I love the Quiksilver/Roxy look. I can’t really pull it off, I admit(I blame the climate in which I live though. Ireland is not conducive to the surfer look), but it’s still well cool. And there’s something unbelievably attractive about a guy who can pull it off… of course the fact that he’s most likely South African or Australian is an added bonus. They do everything from ski to surf stuff, as well as shoes, accessories… well, a bit of everything really. My one gripe is the fact that it’s so damn expensive. I know everything has to be imported, but my god, it’s pushing the boat out a bit when you see what they expect you to pay. Especially if you’ve ever been anywhere else and seen what others pay… not impressed. However, their stuff IS cool, if a bit too linked to the Ross O’Carroll Kelly brigade of late… but you can hardly blame the shop for that now can you?

There’s no way to give an honest review of this shop without sounding like snobby knob, but I’m gonna try anyway. It’s not alternative and it’s not cool, in fact, I think a lot of these clothes are a bit naff. Yes, naff, you heard me. May as well be wearing chino’s. Oh, and it’s not even a little bit wheelchair accessible.

Surfer/skater/snowboarder/cool chicks ahoy — this place should be your shopping mecca. Selling both quicksilver for the guys and roxy for the girls, this is a cool big new store where Hickey’s used to be. I have to say, I was pretty sad when Hickey’s left this centre — I used to love it, boring and all as that is. Now I’ve to trek all the way over to Henry St for my feathers, ribbon etc… Anyway, back to the point! The clothes are cool, if a little pricey, but they’re original and certainly have their own style. I love their boardie shorts for the guys and their roxy bikin’s for the girls are really funky
