Vanilla sugar and black sesame seeds, where on earth is one to find such things? And why haven’t I learnt my lesson and stayed off Pinterest??? Luckily one of the ladies in my office mentioned this place, and off I toddled, finding the items I needed and snatching up several I didn’t. But I am a sucker for an unusual spice! It’s like 2 shops in one, a greengrocer part and next door a tiny little shop full of hard to find ingrediants, staffed by lovely and knowledgable shopkeepers. I’ve been back since and will be again, I’ll be cycling though, its easier to find a needle in a haystack than parking in Donnybrook…

A little on the pricey side, but still all the stuff is either organic or tip-top quality so you’re getting above and beyond what you pay for. Really friendly and competent staff here too, plus there’s nothing like the warm-and-fuzzy feeling you get from supporting local businesses!

Fruitalicious! It is impossible to walk past Roy Fox and not be tempted by all the fruits outside. Located just off Donnybrook Road, the stalls outside are stuffed with a proper mix of fresh selections for a fruit salad par excellence. It will cost you, but think about all the vitamins, the juice dripping down your cheek, the different tastes and textures! Yum! Have never bought anything else here. The bag of fruits takes all my money, but it’s so worth it. Four fruity stars for Roy!

Yup, John has it right on the nose here, there are so many Artisan and gourmet food stores around the city it’s really easy to assume that everything with the words Artisan and gourmet over the door are something special… in the case of Foxes it is a great grocers and veg store, there is no where like it for fresh produce but really gourmet? Fresh grapes are no longer a gourmet delicacy, we have moved on from that, Chinese pears are mildly unusual but alas, again, no longer exactly gourmet, Foxes is great, go, just don’t expect anything special!

I wish Fox’s was closer to me. It’s a brilliant gourmet grocery shop and has all the freshest, delicious produce you could hope for. It’s a great spot for pumpkins at Hallowe’en! They have every variety of fruit and vegetable that you can imagine and it’s all top quality. Inside their small store they have specialty foods and cheeses. It’s all very nice and a great local business. It’s just a pity that it’s marginally more expensive than normal shopping. Still, I love to have a mooch around and buy the extra treats that I don’t normally indulge in.

Roy Fox’s used to be just a very well stocked greengrocers well known and frequented by the residents of Donnybrook. Lately though its morphed into a Gourment green grocers with the fruit and veg in one section and the fancy stuff next door in a new annex they’ve added. The shop used to be run by the Donnelly family and they were always great to deal with, friendly and a very old school business, looking after customers and providing great produce.
