The Bistro has been closed now and instead a Jo’Burger Restaurant has opened in the premises.

‘Forgive me’ ‘Oatmeal with fruit for me please & coffee. I’ve heard it all before. French toast & bacon for me please, oh & a latte I don’t wanna hear.‘ A kid darted away from his Dad twice on to a busy road much to our shared amusement mingled with latent maternal protection. The South African reached her ear into our table. ‘Is your food good? I listened to all your lies & half your stories Amazing, yours? Please don’t say forgive me. Yeah the almonds are a great touch. There are more important things then hearing you speak. I wish Madonna would shut it. Well it is Gay Pride after all darling.’

I’ve eaten in The Bistro countless times and it’s been consistently good over the years. It’s the kind of place that’s great for going for a bite with a friend, with a group or even on a date. It covers all eventualities really. They do a yummy fish and chips and I’m a big fan of their Caesar salad — they’re one of these restaurants that manages to get the dressing right. The Bistro is in a lovely area too — Castlemarket, which is that pedestrianised street at the back of the Georges Street Arcade. They have seats outside and it you’re lucky enough to be here on a sunny summer’s evening, this is one of the nicest parts of Dublin to be relaxing in.

Easily one of the classiest and understated little eateries in the city, often hard to get into due to other people who think ahead and book… sods! The menu leans more towards French than Italian but it is really only a leaning, I’d probably class it as European overall, it offers dishes like Confit of Duck and Roast Rack of Irish Lamb. Last time I was there there was fresh Tuna steaks on the menu, we very much enjoyed. Bistro makes for a great night out and is good for groups up to 8(they can, I think, also give up the entire upstairs for bigger groups). The bill at the end can be a shocker if you are not watching what is ordered — there are a couple of pricy wines — but I have never left feeling it was too much to pay for a good night out.
