WONDERFUL Irish Stew. I ate at the bar, though, because the place was packed with tourists. The bartenders were basically the only Irish there. Go for the delicious food, but don’t expect to see a lot of locals there.

Um, I’m little conflicted. It is a bit of an institution The Brazen Head, but a tourist trap too. It’s maybe a 3.5 review, but I’m rounding down.
This was my second visit here, my first being about 17 years ago when I first moved to the big smoke.
I got a round of three regular Guinness and one Guinness West Indies Porter, that came to 21 EUR something. Not as expensive as I thought it would be. Definitely not Temple Bar bar prices at 23:00, that’s for sure.
The barman was on the ball too. It wasn’t jammers, but there was a constant flow at our bar, but he threw out the pints in quicktime.
Floor staff were very nice too, pleasant and smiling. Very helpful when we asked for a doggy bag.
So we ordered food. I wasn’t that hungry to be honest, so settled for a portion of chunky chips. They were not great. Greasy. I gave up on them halfway through. I’m not sure what the others thought. One finished theirs and the other got their beef stew boxed up. So better than me I think.
The décor is definitely Irish twee, which is ok. Staff made up any misgivings I may have had going in, but the chips definitely let them down.

Hats off to one of the oldest bars in Dublin! We arrived with mixed thoughts about the food. We left pleased with full bellies! The vibes and staff just were just as satisfying as the food! Grab a beer and some delicious bites at Brazen head!

The atmosphere is great. Great divide and great food. Only problem was the mashed potatoes were instant. That’s a big problem for me, otherwise it’d be a five star

I’m a tourist like most visiting from la. This pub feels like a different world. It’s dark, but dimly lit inside. Oak woody finishes. The bar men don’t play around. Probably the fastest service at a bar I’ve gotten ever in life. The food is actually above par. For Irish food being heavy and potatoes it hit the spot. They provide large portions and a tip to the tourists. Don’t ask for the check. You pay at the bar when you’re done. This «bar» actually allows children. I saw a family bring their infant in. So everyone’s welcome. If you’re visiting Dublin then you have to come here and check out the oldest bar and say you had a pint of Guinness here. Cheers

Our hotel had recommended this place as a great traditional Irish restaurant. I cannot fault them for that! The food was definitely traditional, but it was extremely heavy and large portions. I am giving it 3 stars because of the lack of service, and the feeling of being rushed in an already tourist packed location.

Came here a few years ago and had a nice time, chatting with the locals and the other tourists. This time came just to grab a bite and a pint, and wound up talking with an older couple who’ve been coming here for decades. Full of stories and charm, they were, and the service was so kind and thoughtful toward them. Sitting in the glow, had a great time.

What a great experience. Our first night in Dublin we had traditional Irish Pub Food in Ireland’ oldest pub. Good food, great service, a wonderful experience. Made reservations in advance for our party of 8, table was waiting.

My evening at the Brazen Head was better then I expected.
We had some time to sit around in the pub and drink an Irish Coffee, and take in the atmosphere. Reminded me of some of my favorite night spots in San Francisco.
«‘An evening of food, folk and fairies’ presented by Johnny Daly» was a great way to round out my birthday.
The others attending were from all over the world; in-​between stories and tasty food we talked about our time so far in Ireland.
Granted I was here back in 2009, but from the reviews and pictures looks like they have maintained that vibe.

Definite tourist vibe, but worth it nonetheless! We came here from The Beerhouse down the street for some fish and chips. They were a bit pricey, but I guess you’re really paying for the atmosphere and for the feeling of eating fish and chips in the city’s oldest pub.
It was extremely packed– we checked around the multiple rooms for a seat and had to wait for about 15 minutes before a bench opened up outside. The servers were quite frenzied but were polite anyway. We ordered the fish and chips and a pint of Guinness. Everything came about ten minutes after, which we thought was quite quick. It was delicious, but weirdly didn’t come with mushy peas! It wasn’t too chilly out so we were able to sit comfortably for a while and people-​watch. I probably wouldn’t frequent this pub but it’s definitely a nice way to spend an evening.

Found this place on Unilocal after searching for Traditional Irish Breakfast and I got exactly what I was looking for! We sat down and I found my breakfast on the menu but just to see that we were 30mins late. We told the waiter that we would need a few more mins to decide because we came here specifically for the Irish breakfast. He came back a few mins later and told us the kitchen would make us the breakfast! I was so excited!
The breakfast consists of eggs, hash browns, bacon, sausage, white and black pudding, grilled tomato, beans, and toast.
I enjoyed the breakfast so much! The beans on toast was my favorite. After I found out what exactly black pudding was I couldn’t even look at it! Aaaaahhhhh!
Next time I would want to come back here for dinner. Their giunness beef stew is supposed to be hella good and they have live Irish music at night. That would of been fun if we would of known.

Came here for Breakfast and was excited to visit Dublin’s oldest pub.
The pub is very small and was not that busy around noon. I ordered a Pint of Guinness.
We decided on the Traditional Irish Breakfast. The bartender informed us they had quit serving breakfast and said he would be back. When he came back he said we could still get the Irish Breakfast. Fantastic.
The Traditional Irish Breakfast comes with sausage, bacon, fried egg, black and white pudding, hash browns, beans, grilled tomato, and toast.
The sausage was pretty good. The eggs were as the menu stated, the hash browns were very good, I loved the grilled tomato with pepper, and the beans and toast was awesome. I had no idea what black and white pudding was, I ate it, I didn’t like it, and if I knew what it was I wouldn’t have ate it. Glad I had a Pint of Guinness to wash it down. I am glad I got to try everything though.
The service was excellent.
I would love to go back for dinner and music.

The oldest pub in Dublin.
A must see if you are a tourist to get the feel of what an old Irish traditional pub is like. As a local dubliner I wouldn’t choose to go to tourist-​y places.

The Brazen Head es uno de los pubs más famosos y característicos de Dublin, ya que según dicen es el más antiguo de Irlanda y –obvio– eso no es poca cosa. Lo que sí, como imaginarán, tal presentación lleva a que el lugar se llene de turistas, aunque yendo temprano a la tardecita se puede beber algo tranquilo y de lo más bien.
En principio, hay que decir que el lugar es bastante grande, con distintas barras y lleno de mesitas para poder sentarse. Tienen distintos tipos de cerveza tirada y las que probé estaban bastante buenas. Los precios son similares a la mayoría de los bares de la ciudad y el lugar es lindo y bastante bien decorado, siendo todo muy típico de la zona.
En fin, The Brazen Head puede ser uno de los pubs más famosos de Dublin, pero hay que decir que hay otros que son bastante mejores, así y todo me parece una buena opción y un bar que vale la pena visitar.

We went to London on our honeymoon and saw many old buildings.
We went to Paris after that, and went to Notre Dame, which was even older.
We went to Venice next, and passed by a church that we were told was even older than Notre dame.
Then we came to Dublin, and came to this pub. This pub was the oldest thing we went to our entire trip.
I will echo a number of sentiments I see in the rest of these reviews. It is refreshing to be able to get to a pub outside of the Temple Bar area. Even if it is still attracting tourists, it feels more authentic this way.
It was nice to be able to cozy up in here on a cold, windy day. The staff were all super nice and welcoming.
They had a great selection of beers here. I mostly drank Guinness on our trip (you can’t get good Guinness back in the States), but here I think I went for a stout of some sort that was very nice.
My wife ended up getting the fish and chips. It was a very large portion and she definitely enjoyed it. I got the Guinness Beef stew, which was equally good.
Irish food isn’t necessarily known for being good. I think it’s the level of seasoning mostly. But it is definitely hardy and warming and just what we needed.
I encourage at least one stop here when visiting Dublin.

By far my favorite place in Dublin.
Their Guinness Stew is fantastic. Their Guinness is great, as usual in Dublin. And they have the best traditional music sessions in Dublin on Sundays.
This is a must visit for any trip to Dublin, and make sure to check out their traditional music sessions on Sundays for a real sample of Irish culture.

The Irish breakfast only 11.5 quid & you get bacon, sausage, eggs, white & black pudding (blood pudding aka the states), bread and beans.
Also the OLDEST pub in Ireland so make a stop there. The food is amazing for very few American dollars

Pros:
— The Guinness Beef Stew is possibly the best thing you could eat on a cold day. Delicious beef chunks, creamy stew, soft mashed potatoes, and all the veggies Mom told you to eat.
— Wash that down with a tall pint of Guinness by the warm and cozy fireplace and you have an experience that is quintessential Dublin.
— Thankfully it’s just outside of Temple Bar so you don’t have drunk people stumbling in.
Cons:
— It wasn’t crowded when I went in for lunch on Monday but I can imagine it gets nuts during the evening and on weekends.

Such a neat pub a good distance away from the Temple Bar area! I was hesitant to give up one meal during my three day visit here due to some people saying it’s touristy, but I was craving some stew and since it is Ireland’s oldest pub… Should pay a visit right?!?
The pub is tucked behind a long entrance, but there are plenty of outdoor seating for the times when it isn’t cold in Dublin ;) there are a lot of nooks and crannies and it is decorated everywhere! The ambiance is casual, fun, and laid-​back. Though it could get loud, especially on top of the live music, but this is what one should expect from a traditional Irish pub! There’s so much to see here, too!
Food/​Drinks– beef and Guinness stew was sooo good! I didn’t expect it to be this good, but wow. It had sizable chunks of beef, mushrooms, celery, bite-​size carrot chunks, and came with bread/​butter. I felt bad for not touching the bread at all, but I have to save room to eat as much as the stew as I can! Yum. I initially asked for Smithwork’s pale ale (I never tried it before), but the bartender suggested McGargles (I never tried it either) bc he said it’s much better! It was really good! Really crisp!
Staff/​Service– I previously read that some Unilocalers didn’t have good experience with staff, but the staff who helped me were okay. It’s true that they will not come and seat you, even if you walk by some seats, they won’t ask you if you wanted to be seated there. You just have to pick one and sit down. And for ordering, if you’re not sitting at a counter, you’re better off walking up to the counter to order. The method here is that you have to be initiative, otherwise they will keep doing they own work or sometimes chat with each other. But I didn’t feel uncomfortable Bc of that, probably Bc I walked in expecting mediocre-​bad service.
Overall, I had a great time though I was dining alone. Had a short convo with a fellow traveler on vacation seated next to me at the bar counter. And I also enjoyed people watching and taking my time to eat/​drink. Would highly recommend and I want to come back to try other food items as well!

Si vous aimez le typique ce pub est l’un des meilleurs de Dublin.
L’atmosphère y est comme bloquée dans le passé, on y croise des vieux monsieur en kilt, des gens normaux et des touristes … pas mal de touristes.
Il est tout de même très sympa, je n’ai fait qu’y boire mais l’ambiance était au rendez-​vous, il y a régulièrement des concerts d’artistes locaux, c’est très agréable.
Les consommations sont abordables, le plus vieux pub de Dublin est une adresse à retenir.

The oldest pub in Dublin is a must visit — whether for a pint & live music or to sample their delicious homemade stew.
The pub is just south of the river on an unassuming road.
A lovely building with lots of rooms, a few bars, a lovely outside space away from the road with flowers and it’s own bar.
There is also a more restaurant type room near the back decorated with old whiskey boxes and old books.
The menu is your stardard pub menu and includes Irish stew and beef & Guiness stew. Would recommend both!
There is also a large selection of beers including many Irish!

Beautiful bar. Really friendly staff and the prize for a pint of guinness isn’t too bad considering the fact that it is a tourist attraction. 5,20 € as far as i remember.

Der Brazen Head Pub stand ganz oben auf meiner Liste in Dublin und sollte ein Highlight werden.
Die Location ist super. Der Innenhof, sowie mehrere verschieden große Räume, bieten Platz für Jedermann.
Das Essen und das Bier waren super. Das Wasser schmeckte leider nach Chlor.
Ein Kritikpunkt, der für mich sehr ins Gewicht fällt, ist die Freundlichkeit der weiblichen Kellnerin, die den Charme eines Stücks Brot hatte. Sie war sehr schroff und nahm keinerlei Rücksicht darauf, dass man als Tourist Schwierigkeiten damit haben könnte, ihren schnell gesprochenen Worten zu folgen. Dies führte zu einer Fehlbestellung von Bier, die sehr unfreundlich von ihr zurückgenommen wurde.
Beim Trinkgeld kam ein Blick, der sicherlich töten könnte.
Ich hatte keinesfalls den Eindruck, dass ich als Kunde dort König bin. Vielleicht kann man sich das dort aufgrund des regen Zulaufs erlauben. Einen möglichen zweiten Besuch schloss ich persönlich allerdings aus.
Andere Pubs bewiesen mir, dass die schroffe Art eine Ausnahme war. In der Regel sind die Kellner in Dublin sehr freundlich.

Great place for traditional Irish live music. Come here on a Sunday afternoon for a pint of Guinness and enjoy the Irish life in Dublin. It’s often packed but worth it. Be aware to engage and sing along.

Toller verwinkelter Pub mit einzigartiger Atmosphäre! Allerdings auch eine Touristenschanze und erst später am Abend wird es gemütlich.

Un de mes beaux souvenirs lors de mon séjour à Dublin.
Le Brazen Head c’est tout d’abord le plus vieux pub de Dublin.
L’endroit est typique, la décoration authentique.
Vous serez entouré de bois, bar cuivré et de cuir principalement.
Les Irish coffee sont à tomber, le ragoût de mouton un délice … le meilleur que j «ai mangé.
L’accueil est chaleureux et vous serez bercé par la musique typiquement Irlandaise.
Si vous avez la chance de passer un soir de concert vous y trouverez des groupes typiques installés à de grandes tablées jouant du violon, violoncelle, accordéon, Bodran et le top quand le musicien est motivé pour la balader c’est l’instrument symbolique Irlandais… La Harpe.
L’extérieur est très sympathique aussi des tables hautes en fait des tonneaux de Whisky sont installés de ci de la pour que chacun puisse s’installer à sa guise.
J’y fonce dés que je retourne dans ce joli pays Irlandais

The Brazen Head ist angeblich der älteste Pub in Dublin. An einem Sonntag haben wir dort tolle Live Musik gehört, gemischtes Publikum, von jung bis älter, Tanz vor der Bühne und leckere Getränke, egal ob Cider oder Guinness, sogar Jägermeister gab es dort, als ich danach für meine Frau an der Theke fragte, ging man in den Keller und fand noch eine Flasche.
Für den Dublin Besuch unbedingt auf die «To do» Liste nehmen.
Witzig auch die vier Düsseldorfer, die grundsätzlich am Sonntag nach Dublin fliegen, weil dort dann eine ganz bestimmte Alt-​Herren Band spielt.

Einfach genial dieses PUB ! Sieht total unscheinbar aus aber es hat was. Nicht weit weg vom Zentrum, essen in einem guten Preis Leistung Verhältnis ! Immer wieder gerne bei jedem Trip nach Dublin

le plus vieux pub d’irlande, rien que ça, ça fait rêver. un accueil très sympa, des prix raisonnables et un décor superbe.

Normal tirando a regular, local bastante típico pero que por momentos puede atestarse de turistas debido a la fama que tiene. Al parecer es el pub más antiguo de Dublín con 1000 años a sus espaldas, no voy a poner en duda esto, pero si visita este pub lo único que se llevará es la anécdota de que ha estado ahí.
Se encuentra alejado del centro de Dublín y el tiempo que le llevará llegar hasta ahí no compensará la visita, recomiendo visitar otros lugares más interesantes.
El precio es normal. Es posible pedir para comer o cenar pues posee una carta con interesantes platos.
Recomendable si le gusta visitar los lugares por hacerse la foto, de otra manera, no encontrará una experiencia gratificante aquí.

Hierzu gibt es nicht viel zu sagen.
Wer Dublin besucht, der muss hier unbedingt mal hingehen.
Nicht nur der älteste Pub Dublins, hier gibt es auch das beste Pint Guinness in der Stadt, wenn nicht sogar in ganz Ireland. Und ich kanns sagen. Obwohl ich mit Kölsch zur Welt gekommen bin, weiss ich genau was ein gutes Guinness ist. Im übrigen ist auch das Essen (irische Klassiker wie Irish Stew) einfach Klasse.

Brazen Head war schoen. Getraenkepreise vergleichsweise guenstig, Essen sehr gut (!), Musik klassisch irisch. Alles in kleinen Raeumen untergebracht, urgemuetlich, dunkel wie man sich so einen Pub halt vorstellt.

Mein Gott, tatsächlich das BrazenHead! Es ist hier vertreten. Das war ein Zufallstreffer für mich. Vor Jahren war ich in Dublin und hab den angeblich ältesten Pub Irlands oder gar der Welt besucht.
Klein, dunkel, verraucht (damals), mit dicken Ablagerungen der Jahrhunderte, möchte man meinen.
Alles in Holz ausgestattet, wie man sich einen guten Pub vorstellt.
Ein wenig speisen kann man natürlich auch, und nicht etwa nur Standard pub food, sondern auch Spezialitäten wie gegrillte Muscheln und Fisch.
Ein frisches Guiness on draught oder extra stout dazu. Livemusik und ein netter Ratsch mit den Dublinern.
Das ist Lebensgefühl, wie man es selten findet. So etwas hab ich seinerzeit nicht einmal in der Multikulti-​Stadt mit L in GB gefunden.
Wer Dublin besucht, darf den Brazen Head nicht verfehlen.
