Description

Specialties

With the exception of coffee, tea and lemons, we use only food sourced from within the island and revive and re-invigorate traditional Irish recipes. Our emphasis is on delivering simple, tasty food which proudly champions our suppliers by naming them everywhere possible and each menu item contains the name of at least one producer. Hopefully, this gives a little taster as to the passion with which we hold our food philosophy. We are also fully committed to creating a comfortable, non intimidating environment where people of all kinds can come for a casual of special occasion with warm and attentive but informal service. We hope we have succeeded!

History

Established in 2006.

The Winding Stair Bookshop & Café became a famous Dublin landmark in the 70’s and a popular meeting place for writers, musicians and artists. In an era of few venues it played host to dozens of readings & book launches and for many an unofficial office where long afternoons were spent meeting people. When its closure was announced in 2005 there were muttering about the end of an era — but, in 2006 Elaine Murphy brought this much-loved Bookshop & Restaurant back and it’s better than ever.

The Bookshop continues in the same format as before, with plenty of second-hand books, unusual new publications and a terrific range of children’s books. The upstairs Restaurant has maintained the nostalgic ambiance of the famous building and specialises in a simple, high quality Irish cooking with an organic direction and extensive wine list.
