I LOVE this shop! They have a gorgeous variety of yarns and accessories at various price points (I have a bit of a weakness for luxury yarns and they have plenty — I love the Townhouse Yarns range). There are sample swatches and knits so you can see the yarn once it’s knitted up and the staff are very knowledgeable and welcoming, they have an excellent loyalty programme and have always been very accommodating in winding my yarn for me in-​house.
I definitely recommend checking This Is Knit out, it’s a little treasure trove!

This shop is a dream! I love everything about it, from the yarn selection to the staff, the cozy aesthetic to the events. It’s the cutest little family owned shop that I’m so grateful to call my LYS!
They organize lots of workshops and events, including knitting lessons, workshops with pattern designers, even special days like World Wide Knit in Public Day and Yarn Dating where they introduce you to their new range of stock. They have wool for felting or spinning, tools and notions including Knit Pro interchangeable needles, Addi and Clover needles, beads, Soak wool wash and more. Really everything you need to get started or fuel your addiction!
Their selection of yarn is perfect, whether you’re looking for something super luxurious, or inexpensive, they have plenty to choose from. All of the popular brands are here: Malabrigo, Debbie Bliss, Noro, Jamieson and Smith etc. They also support local businesses with a great selection of Irish wool and yarn from Irish spinners and dyers, which is something I really admire. Another huge perk any knitter/​crocheter will appreciate is their complimentary winding service: they will wind any yarn you purchase so it’s ready to go as soon as you get home. The loft area has a good selection of books and magazines, a cozy couch if you feel so inclined to stick around and knit, and a big table for the workshops. The owners Jacqui, Lisa and Jenny, and the staff, are very knowledgeable. Being knitters/​crafters themselves, they can answer your questions and help you choose the best yarn for your project. They are also happy to make special orders or hold yarn for you.
I can’t recommend this place enough. If you’re near the Powerscourt Townhouse you must stop by, even if you’re across town I have to insist you go out of your way to visit anyway!

This is the holy grail of knit crochet world. If you have deep pockets — thick wallet shop here. High quality products you cannot find everywhere. Knowledgable & helpful staff.

Fantastic store with attentive customer service. They are knowledgable and helpful. I even took a knitting class here and learned how to knit!
Be careful buying the books though; some look good but they may not have all the pictures you need to follow along. My girlfriend bought a book here and it was just too complicated. Luckily, the store offers one-​on-​one lessons, so she was able to get through her project. That is why I give this store 5 stars. They go above and beyond to help people enjoy the hobby.

I love the yarn selection here — it’s all good quality, but still comes in a decent range of prices for people who are looking for nice yarn without having to break the bank. The staff have always been really helpful every time I’ve been in there, and if you end up having any full balls or skeins left at the end of your project, they’ve always been willing to exchange it for me (so long as it was still in stock) so I didn’t have to worry about making sure I wasn’t buying too much yarn.

Love their selection of fine yarn — it definitely is on the pricier side but the materials are really nice and great quality. The ladies who work here are also really friendly and very willing to help give you knitting project ideas; every time I go I leave with a few more ideas. I definitely love coming here to get my yarn and knitting tools :).

This is Knit has a great selection of yarn, and I was quite tempted by many of them (lots of really interesting looking Louisa Harding yarns I’d not seen before). The yarn was well organized and easy to browse. There were nice samples of projects and sample squares throughout the shop so you could get a better idea of projects to make with the various yarns. There was also a great selection of needles and other notions (bags, counters, pom pom makers, etc.).
The selection of patterns was decent, but not overwhelming. I like shops which have a huge selection of project leaflets rather than entire books, and am a bigger fan of shops which arrange them by yarn company to make finding a project for your chosen yarn a bit easier.
One of the really nice touches about This is Knit, is that they have a ball winder and swift located upstairs where the most of the patterns are located, which means you can wind all your newly purchased hanks of yarn into balls before you step foot out the store saving yourself loads of time and hassle. They also have some seating upstairs so you can hang about and get started on your project straightaway.
If your a tourist in Dublin looking for a knit/​crochet souvenir to take home, I highly suggest checking out their kits which include a pattern designed by the store, yarn and in some cases a hook (if a crochet pattern). I picked up the Pax shawl crochet kit for € 19, and it was packed in a cute little burlap tote.

As a former knitter, I was aware of This Is Knit, and while no longer knitting — my hands just couldn’t hack it — I decided to wander in and visit the most famous knitting shop in Ireland after my expedition to The Dolls Hospital.
To say the least I was a little underwhelmed. The shop was quite small, which was not what I was expecting at all. I guess years of hearing other knitters gush about the store, had left me thinking it was some kind of labyrinth full of wondrous wooly paraphernalia. After getting over the small shock, I realised that This Is Knit is the best wool shop in Ireland for two reasons. First up, they actually sell Noro, it’s right there when you walk in the door, to touch, cuddle and kiss. This for me is amazing because most wool shops I’ve visited don’t sell Noro or anything remotely as high quality. So in this way they actually live up to the name wool shop. Secondly, it has all the knitting accoutrements you need; i.e. if you’re looking for a size 6 needle which is so many cms long, you’ll find it there, you won’t even need to order it.
Those two facts in themselves make this a great shop, plus they have classes for beginners, intermediate and advanced knitters, so they really are serving a knitters every need. Wonderful store, and if I still knitted I would definitely be pouring money into their shop.

I specifically put This is Knit on my must-​see list for my recent trip to Ireland. I was not disappointed. The employees were super friendly and helpful. I purchased a couple of skeins of a local yarn, Gaiety Girl, in two beautiful colorways as souvenirs (yarn is always better than cheap geegaws). If I return to Dublin, I will definitely be purchasing more yarn at This is Knit.

A did a bit of knit related research before coming to Dublin, and was glad to find that they had a premier yarn shop! At first it was hard to find, but you simply have to follow all the signs within the Powercourt House. They have two little neighboring shops tucked into a corner.
As a knitter, what better souvenir to buy yourself then some local yarn? I originally came in for a drop-​spindle, but they had just sold out. Instead I left with some skeins of Irish yarn! The tweed is wonderfully soft and colorful. I can’t wait to knit with it!

A great yarn shop with a great selection of beautiful yarns. They have every color and texture you’d want, in addition to supplies, tools and patterns.
The staff is extremely helpful. I just kind of got to chatting with the gal working there today and she was so sweet. She told me they have classes for beginner and intermediate knitters on Fridays from 11 to noon and they’re limited to three students, so you’re guaranteed to get a lot of attention. They also have workshops and crochet classes if you feel like learning a new skill.

This Is Knit is Dublin’s premier yarn shop. True there are a few others where you’ll find Patons acrylic, assorted Rowan, and Kilcarra wool; but This Is Knit is the ONLY place to get really exceptional brands such as

Lorna’s Laces
Debbie Bliss
Manos del Uruguay
Lamb’s Pride by Brown Sheep Company (among others)
Not to mention the addi turbo (AND lace) circulars, Knitpicks interchangeable sets, Namaste bags, and sock blockers!
The staff are exceedingly friendly, knowledgeable and helpful; and they have loads of classes for all skill levels. Plus, everyone is welcome to attend the Thursday evening Knit Night from 6−8pm in the main lobby of Powerscourt!
