Veterinary Council

On the Veterinary Council’s website they state their principle function is «to regulate and manage the practice of veterinary medicine and veterinary nursing in the State in the public interest.»
The committee has 19 members, 9 vets and 1 veterinary nurse. And Ireland is a small country, the vets all known each other. They have a supposed ‘fitness to practice’ review committee where the public (in whose interest they are supposedly there) are supposed to have a voice and be protected from veterinary misconduct.
Has any member of the public submitted paperwork and actually been heard? Has any vet ever been sanctioned? I would like to know. Being made up of primarily those in the veterinary practice, it seems to me we know whose interests they are there to protect.
I went through a year of back and forth paperwork with them after an experience with a vet which to any sane person constituted misconduct — based on the Vet Council’s own guidelines but sadly it turned out, just like others has advised me that they only listen to ‘their own’. They took the hearsay of the vets in question over mine, hearsay which any objective, sane person would have seen was nonsense that was set in place after the events in question to cover their tracks.
We need a newly formed Veterinary Council that fulfills its objectives to protect the public and sanction vets that do our animals and us a disservice.
