We came across this place quite by accident – we were hiking, and we got lost one morning. The proprietor, Franco, regaled us with stories of his honeymoon in New York, where we’re from, and told us yes, the kitchen was open – in an hour. We waited, and the meal was worth it – excellent pasta and risotto, fresh porcini mushrooms – served with glee by Franco and great competence by his lovely wife. The outdoor dining room(it has a manually-pulled awning for shade) is in the middle of nowhere, on a narrow road in the hills above Como; still, lunch was well-attended, mostly by locals. Good, homey place with fresh food served simply, with little regard to the passage of time or cholesterol counts. And Franco is entertainment in himself.
