I stopped by Mercato Centrale multiple times during my stay in Florence. My husband and I tried a variety of food from lampradetto sandwiches to pizza and cannoli. Some of the food was delicious and very affordable, while other dishes were too pricey for the amount and quality. We also enjoyed shopping at Eataly and the market on the first level. I recommend stopping by Marconcini for wine and liquor. You can sample multiple types of wine and alcohol. We ended up buying 3 bottles of wine based off of what we sampled. I wish I could go back for the cannoli and shop for more food and wine! The cannolis are sold at a cart, and they get piped fresh when you order – so delicious!

Food lovers paradise! Must go to if in Florence. The fútbol game is playing in the big screens. Plenty of options so it’s a good pick for everyone. Don’t miss out on the canole stand.

This place has it all! It’s really what an American food court should be but isn’t! Fantastic food choices, ample seating, big screen tv playing sports, goods shopping. I had the pizza sat and ordered a aperol spritz! It was crowded I was a little bummed I wasn’t able to see the first floor but I’m having trouble finding out what those hours are. I’m not sure if it was closed because of the weather, time of day or just cause. I plan to come back with appetite and euros.

First thing I wanted to do when in Florence was to go at this market! It is true that prices can seem very expensive at the first look, but seriously, the quality here appear to be very high to me. Almost every stand has small bites portons for about 2⁄3 euros, it makes possible to try many things without breaking the bank. I loved the pizza al taglio, mozzarella skewers, the coffee stand, and… there is an Eataly grocery shop in a corner! What is less cool, is the market surrounding the Mercato Centrale, I think it’s hide the beauty of that place… and makes feel your are in a over packed place.

This is a great indoor food and restaurant market! First floor is like groceries and fresh fruits, and the second floor is like a food court with different restaurants. There is a truffle restaurant that was Great and only 20euros for a salad with a while entire truffle shaved before our eyes! I overheard a local tour guide telling two ppl that that truffle(tartufo) restaurant was the only one worth eating at :) which made me happy because I’m always trying to avoid tourist traps.

This is a review for Mercato Centrale(5 stars), with a subsequent review of the tripe sandwich at Lorenzo Nigro(L. Nigro) located in the Mercato Centrale upstairs food court(3 stars). MERCATOCENTRALE — love it, 5 stars! We arrived around 4−5pm in the afternoon so only walked around the upper/food court level. This place was a joy to peruse! It had high ceilings with natural lighting, the space was open and clean. It reminds me of a toned-down version of the Ferry Building in San Francisco. There were stands with fresh produce, meat, pasta, and many different types of food(pasta, sandwiches, pizza, wine and cheese tasting, desserts, etc) that you can grab with a beverage to enjoy at the seating area. The seating area has different kinds of seating: bar height tables, long rectangular tables for groups, and smaller tables for two or four. It was not crowded while we were there, so speaking for that specific time of day(4−5pm), it was a very comfortable environment for enjoying food and leisurely strolling around the stores. I had read that many travelers high recommend the cooking classes here and saw that the space looks amazing! We did not have time for it this trip– just another reason to go on over to Firenze another time! :) TRIPESANDWICH at Lorenzo Nigro: A-Ok, 3 stars. Bf and I arrived in Firenze by train and were starving our butts and our last nerve off, so we decided to check out Mercato Centrale for a quick bite. Tripe(lampredotto) sandwich, a must-try in Florence, seemed like a good idea! First, the ordering process was confusing, especially for two bumbling travelers who are not fluent in Italian by any stretch of imagination. It seems that at certain stands at the food court, you do not order at the stand, but at a cashier near the stand(the one closest to L. Nigro was at the alcohol bar to its left). After paying, you bring the receipt to where the food is made/served to order and pick-up the food. Standing at L. Nigro, our noses were immediately met by the aroma of the broth used to bathe the tripe, and as we watched the tripe being sliced, our eyes widened and our mouths watered… what fools we were! Ok, that may be a little harsh, but biting into the sandwich was nothing like the experience of watching its construction. Here’s what imagination vs. reality was like. Imagination: biting into a soft, airy, moist bun that would soak up the broth still dripping from the buttery tripe, culminating in an explosion of flavors from the long hours of tripe simmering in that aromatic broth, sending our minds into nirvana. Reality: dry bread that is denser than it looks… and where did all that aroma from the broth go? Certainly not into its intended recipient! So the bread did soak up some of the broth alright, but what was the point when it basically tasted like low sodium store-bought broth? I guess life really is all about expectations? Anyway, we tried this with some chianti wine from the wine bar(probably would’ve chosen a white wine if we’d known the sandwich would have such elusive flavors). The whole meal was still somewhat decent for two ravenous travelers. If this is your only chance to try out lampredotto sandwiches, I would not recommend going here, especially since there are other options nearby.

The downstairs market has a huge variety of fresh groceries. It is open only in the morning, or at least it was during my visit. I would shop here if I were planning to cook during my stay. The upstairs is an upscale food court. I wished I had time to try more things, but I only had time for a champagne cocktail. ;-) Walking back by at night, it seemed that the upstairs might still be open quite late, but you would have to know it was there. The market building is surrounded by an outdoor market, as well. I ate at a cart that was selling stewed beef and trips sandwiches. The«boiled beef» was super flavorful and delicious. Not so much the soggy tripe sandwich.

I love this place. They have everything– food, produce and even merchandise outside where vendors sell purses and clothes. There is a good place upstairs that makes pizza– one of the best pizzas I had in Italy. There is a panini place upstairs my husband and i tried upstairs as well, not so great– was cold and greasy. Also there is a place downstairs called Baroni which sells truffle salt(cheaper than the truffle place upstairs), balsamic vinegar(which they allow you to try before you buy), truffle vinegar(very good) and olive oil– i purchased them all!

Really fantastic place to eat, especially if it’s late and you don’t want to search around. We came twice. I wish I could remember the individual names, so I will do my best to describe the locations. First meal was burrata with tomato plate to start followed by a pizza. Both locations were one side, burrata near the end of one side(cheese and meat stand) and I believe was the only pizza spot on that side. Both were very good. Second meal was a porchetta sandwich at a little booth to the right of the bar(same side as the above locations). Burger was from the other side, only burger place — I think. Sandwich was outstanding! One of the best things we are in Italy. Burger was also very good. It had the«English» taste of burgers. I’m not sure if it’s the processing difference between Europe and US meet, but to me, there is a noticeable taste difference. I like the taste, by the way. It tasted like good meat. Chips were great, too! Oh, and a great cannoli from a stand near the stairs!

This place is awesome! So many different choices for lunch and dinner. It’s a bit confusing, though. Can we sit at the tables and get service? Can you walk around with your drinks? Meh, either way, it was awesome! Definitely work a look… the building is incredible.

Where in London you get fast food on shopping centres, here you get to sample some of Italy’s favourite and popular dishes all in one place, on the top floor of Mercato San Lorenzo. It’s a great place to pick up one or two dishes from each stall and head to a communal dining place in the centre to eat it all. There’s a bar where you can order drinks too. Located in an indoor market its perfect for all weather conditions. The place is big and clean with free clean public toilets if anyone is concerned. The only problem here that there is a lot of choice so follow my photos for reference to know where I chose to eat as many stalls sell the same thing. FRITTOS Some of the best frittos I’ve had in Italy yet from one of the stalls. Suppu Con Ragu risotto ball was amazingly thin and crisp of the outside breaking into a lovely soft sticky inside of rice, Parmesan cheese and fragrant ragu. Fried pasta cube was better than any fried mac and cheese in London made with hollow thin tubes of pasta, fresh ham and creamy cheese sauce. It was wet and crispy, the perfect combination. Polpette du carne was made of beef and came still juicy and pink inside. It was lovely, sweet and seasoned well. Maklone was made of lovely soft boiled spinach and potatoes created a lovely juicy silky yet creamy texture against a thin crispy batter. BURGER Tigerella beef burger with spicy salami and spicy ketchup. I really enjoyed the bun being made from circular flat bread baked creating a crispy crust yet soft and doughy in the inside. As it was slightly chewy the natural sweetness comes through each bite. The patty was nice and juicy, high in quality and the salami pushed the flavours further adding spices and a nice smokey sweetness. Pretty cool and a new bun type to try. VEGETARIAN From the vegetarian stand we ordered a soup made of potatoes, peppers, chickpeas and oregano. Sadly it lacked depth and flavour and wasn’t worth € 6.00 I had to add some red chilli powder and pepper to give it a punch and variation in taste. PIZZA Freshly made pizza in front of you. The sourdough pizza base was amazing, smokey and doughy. It was thin enough in the middle to let the lovely pickled turnip greens take over in texture and to give it umami. The lovely fresh juicy sausage meat was very welcomed for that extra meaty flavour and the melted cheese was stretchy and plentiful to hold everything together. Delicious PASTA Oh my gosh! Pasta in truffle cream was a true bargain for € 10. It was just beautiful. Simple spaghetti in a rich fragrant sauce of truffles. It was thick, each strand costed with more truffles than it can handle and there is me slurping it down. The sauce was so plentiful and delicious that I had to lick the remaining sauce of the plate clean. Prices aren’t particular cheap or expensive and can vary stall to stall. At least you don’t have to worry about service charge or choose where to eat as they have such a wide selection it can cater for everyone. The lighting is comfortable and relaxing although I do recommend to come before rush hour before all the tables go. It’s seems to be a mix of locals and tourists. An awesome place overall and highly recommended.

Whenever we’re in Florence, Mercato Centrale is our hangout place for good food and late night cravings. Food selection is enormous with vendors specializing in pasta, seafood, beer, sweets and pizza. MR says … they’re open late which is the best time to go. less crowd. MRS says … i like the seafood vendor. i love their fried fish(which are crispy fried shrimps, squids, smelt/anchovies fish) and grilled seafood from squid to prawns. they have mussels in some broth served with bread that’s really savory. there’s a pizza place that i like at Mercato Centrale. they make 3 types of pizza and napoli is my fave.

I don’t have other words to describe the Mercato Centrale: I love it. This historic building is just magnificent in itself: just have a look above your head to admire the iron work of the ceiling. If you are hungry, just stop to one of the different«restaurants». They say to have the best pizza of Italy. I tried one and its dough prepared the night before is exceptional. If you life truffles, this is also the place to be to try different meals prepared with this exquisite ingredient. My favourite one is without any hesitation the white one within risottos or with buratta and a bit of olive oil. But a Mercato must stay a Mercato and of course you can find fresh vegetables, local wines or pastas downstairs. Situated in the Center of Firenze some merchants don’t hesitate to sell some(bad) products to attract tourist. Be careful. And check the prices before buying.

This place is just awesome. It’s centrally located and has a lot of different food offerings. I didn’t shop too much but we did have a couple meals here. The will staff come around if you would like wine, just should«Vino!» like I did :) It’s busy, so if you’re stopping during peak eating hours you might have to wait and wander to find a seat. Then, you could grab you’re meal so that you have a spot to sit and eat.

Overrated. Yes, it is a lot of fun to walk around and check out the different food stalls. However, the food and drinks are overpriced and every worker I encountered and tried to talk to, either to ask a question or to *order food from them and give them money*, was very annoyed with me. I’m sure there are locals who shop and eat at Mercato Centrale, but the ones I wanted to hang out with shopped at smaller outdoor markets, like the Mercato Sant’Ambrogio. For a less claustrophobic feel with nicer vendors, more fresh produce, and just an overall more fun experience check out a local market, not the Mercato Centrale.

The central market in Firenze is the type of place that can be thought of as both a collection of private businesses as well as a public space for the enjoyment of all. It’s a meeting place, a cultural exchange, an agora of cuisine. It’s also the intersection of the old and new Firenze. The lovely glass and iron hall dates back several hundred years and has hosted a market since. On the first floor is the market, open in the morning and early afternoon. Above you have the market’s newest attraction in a food hall that serves cuisine representing many different styles and types of local cuisine. The downstairs market offers too many goods to list here. Some of the highlights include local butchers, enormous selections of vegetables, olive oils, and fresh pasta. This section is worth visiting in the mornings to get fresh foods for your day. Come back at night for dinner, a drink, or dessert upstairs. The upstairs food hall hosts food vendors that run the gamut across Italian cuisine. One station focuses entirely on tartufo(truffles). On our first visit there we tried bruschetta with each type of crostini drenched in tartufo shavings. They even offer a fresh tartufo pasta! We also sampled a fresh Margherita pizza from the pizza station, as well as a focaccia style pizza with turnips. The middle area of the hall is a bar that spans both sides of the upstairs, where you can imbibe in bottles on vino on the cheap, or drop in the wine store upstairs as well. After our first visit, I’m still finding new things to try, such as the well-done gelato or the superb cannoli. No matter how long your stay in Firenze, stop by the central market at least more than once to experience the true heart and soul of the city.

A total and compete foodies paradise. Upon entry, I found myself in Foodie Heaven. The market has all of the bet Italy has to offer in foods and then some. It’s a marvelous place to shop your foods, and if you want to learn how to cook like a real Italian, it contains one of the best if not the very best in culinary teaching schools. The place is huge and there are plenty of tables, so grab something from one of the stores or store vendors, sit down, relax and enjoy yourself. The atmosphere of the place is great, and rather hip adorned with a colorful kicky in style statue of Michelangelo’s David which I noted everyone admiring; housewives, girls, straight men and even not so secretly by some of the gay patrons. Maybe that’s the reason it has«Get Lucky» painted right next to his most visually vividly sex tool. LOL! Now don’t get worried. I’ve included explicit pictures of David in my review. Unless you’re a frumpy prude, you’ll enjoy seeing what I’m talking about. Compared to other such markets in Europe, this market, though having more of an emphasis on meats than seafood, can stand up against any of the best of them.

Everyone has to come here! A local told me about it, and anything you want to find in Italy as far as food and/or food items for gifts, you will find at a great price here. I bought some Italian truffles after sampling on crackers. They wrapped them up really well as soon as I said ‘gift’ and ‘suitcase’ and they made it home just fine. On the first floor you’ll find all of the meat, candy, flowers, veggies, that locals have to sell. If you take the escalator to the second floor, you’ll find all of the restaurants that are cooking with the local wares. The food there is amazing. Come here just before you leave to get gifts that everyone will appreciate and have lunch afterwards.

Por sólo 3 € has almorzado.

THISPLACEWASAMAZING. We liked it so much, we came back later on in the day to do it all over again. My only complaint is that I wish we would have come sooner to experience more of what it had to offer. But it’s a must while you’re in town. The first floor is a huge market space full of fresh produce, seafood and other local goods. We unfortunately didn’t get to walk through, but got to peek inside since it was closed on Sundays. The second floor is a gourmet food court full of pizzas, sandwiches, baked goods, gelatos, coffee, beer, wine and more. I loved the buzz from both locals and tourists that came to eat and enjoy the offerings from each vendor, and I also liked that you could grab a little bit of everything without breaking the bank. Another plus, it’s open late, so you can hang out for quite a bit after exploring the city, and they have free wi-fi so you can post all those pics you snapped to your social media accounts as well. Seating comes in the form of communal tables, and we struck up some great conversations with fellow Americans and people that were living nearby. It’s a little bit quieter during the day, but at night, it comes alive with people there to hang out, eat, drink and do a little shopping. I can’t say enough great things about this place!

Oh my goodness truffle pasta! Let me get to the point, skip walking around the first floor area and head straight to the second floor and get their creamy truffle pasta. This was our first stop as soon as we arrived in Florence. Came here supposedly for Lampredotto but actually enjoyed that immensely that I couldn’t care about anything else. The central market building is surrounded by cheap Italian leather bag stalls and the first floor is actually a market. There are food stalls on the first floor for traditional Florentine cuisine open for lunch til 3pm and the second floor is open til midnight. I must admit the setup looked quite like an Eataly and it must be. There’s a small Eataly store at the corner and a cooking school near it. There’s stations for pasta, pizza, Lampredotto, wine, gelato and other things. Once you sit down, someone will come up to you to get your beverage order. Not bad price wise. 20 € for a truffle pasta, I definitely do not mind. Oh did I tell you I hate truffles? Yes. I used to. I am a changed woman. *licks plate*

Otro Must.

Mercato Centrale, Herz was willst du mehr? In jede Theke könnte man reinhüpfen.
