We went here instead of the ubiquitous and probably overhyped Da Michele. As we were in Naples we were eager to try pizza in its spiritual home. What we learned is that while this and nearly every other place we tried pizza in Italy represents more or less the gold standard, particularly in our ever-most-important criteria– the crust; our most favorite haunts in the USA are producing pretty close facsimiles of «real» Neapolitan pizza. So while the experience was clearly what we were after, and we were not disappointed, we all acknowledged that our local join in St. Charles IL is just about as good(although for double the price per pie) This is just a tiny place with a few tables inside and out, and a few upstairs. A lot of different varieties of the standard pies. We had a margherita, one with ham and mushroom, and one with an assortment of toppings. The crust was perfect, and the toppings suitably sparse. It probably would have been more picture-perfect to sit outside, but it was over 90 and we were looking for a little bit of shade and a somewhat cooler atmosphere– however, be warned, if you sit inside, you’re basically in the kitchen too– it’s within full few of the few seats. They also had an interesting little plaque on the wall– Pizzeria Vesi apparently holds the world record(from 2014) for most people tossing Pizza dough at once– 300! So they’ve got that going for them…
