Frigidarium had really good gelato. I had a small(€ 2) cup with crema(like a custard for Americans) and Spagnola(like a vanilla with cherries). Both were deliziosas. The Spagnola was their specialty and the cherry spread in it was amazing. I would definitely come back.

Best gelato I had while traveling all around Europe. Huge scoops at a great price, you can pick two flavors to mix, and you can add chocolate on top for free. I decided on Cannolo Siciliano(and it was great!), but if I had the money, I would’ve splurged and tried all the flavors — super creamy and delicious!

Wonderful owner, inexpensive cost and many creative flavors to choose from. Yes there was a line but it moved fast and only took a few Minutes. The owner suggested flavors and combinations which was a first for a gelataria! The ice Cream was creamy. I would highly recommend the cardamom as something different and the bacia-a type of candy in Italy, this flavor had chocolate with brickle and was really awesome with the free chocolate dips they include(white or milk chocolate) My only complaint is that it melted so fast and since it was larger than the cups and cones, it was quite messy. Didn’t take away from the quality of the product but it is also likely Hard to explain in english how you would have them not overfill if you are a neat knick! So enjoy it and don’t wear a white shirt if you are going to go with a colorful flavor!

The best Gelato in Rome. Well, when you are looking for something sweet. I ate here at least twice a day since our UC center was just down the street. If you are looking for something sweet then come here but if you are looking for something fruity and natural then I suggest go across the street. The great thing is they do speak english, spanish, and italian(of course). Just beware that they have rush hour and the line gets so long!

No line. It’s a tiny little gelato spot that’s easy to miss and in an area with a lot of other gelato spots. You can get your ice cream topped with cream or with dark or white chocolate. The service is not pleasant but pretty straightforward. Be warned, it’s cash only. Gelato was okay but the inside of mine was melting soooo fast. Half of mine ended up on the ground and dripping down my hand. Also, it’s cash only. Or maybe there’s a minimum spending any for card. But they would only accept cash for my 2 small gelatos(2 € each) at 4 € total. Taste was decent but I liked Giolitti and Cioccogelateria Venchi better and they are very close by. Also, the service was a lot better at those spots too. Probably wouldnt come back.

I believe the specialty of this place is the variety and selection of gelato they offer. They make these special blended flavors that you cannot get anywhere else. Most other gelato shops only offer one flavor. They also dip your gelato in white or dark chocolate. The Frigidarium is the best. It is a mix of multiple flavors and it comes with a cookie! The price of the gelato is unbeatable. 1EUR per scoop. The shop is very small with a opening for customers to go in and out. It lies on a normal street where pedestrians and cars go through. The line can get long and wind down the street. Even though there is not much around this place, my friends and I returned to Frigidarium once more before we left Italy. I will definitely return to this place the next time I come. Even talking about the Frigidarium flavor makes me miss it.

This gelato was delicious! Definitely one of my favorite places so far. The gelato flavors are conveniently placed next to complimentary ones, so keep that in mind when ordering. The line moves quick so don’t let it detour you.

Outstanding gelato… arrived at the shop only to be met by a 20 minute wait which prompted me to ask if the TSA was doing pat downs before you got to order… all I can say is WOW – best Fkn gelato I have had to date. Ordered a 3 scoop cup for the amazingly fair price of 3 Euro. Got the following flavors – Frigidarium(truly delicious and the best of all 3), chocolate/orange, and vanilla. Topped it off with their hot chocolate sauce. First taste of Frigidarium almost caused a premature ejaculation, it was that good.

Hands down the best gelato I’ve had in Italy & anywhere else in the world! Located near Piazza Navona & the Trevi Fountain. We went on a cool rainy day, but that didn’t mean it was line free. Luckily, our wait was probably 10 minutes max. The line did pile on once we got in line though. The ladies working were quick & ever so efficient. I got a small cone with strawberry, lemon with the whipped cream. I have never had strawberry gelato like theirs, it was amazing! Hubs got the frigidarium, chocolate & had his dipped in dark chocolate. The frigidarium flavor was bomb, but couple that with the dark chocolate dip… bombtastic! Y’all won’t find another gelato place quite like this one. Save yourself the trouble & grab yourself one(or plenty more) gelato cone stat! Totally wish I could’ve brought this place home with me :)

Definitely would not recommend coming here for four reasons: * flavors aren’t that good or amazing * Rude and unfriendly staff * Staff jokes that THEY are the English menu and then get annoyed when you ask what a certain Italian flavor is * they have a 2 sample limit and they don’t tell you this before scolding you when you ask for another EXPERIENCE Poor and unfriendly service! I thought I was here to get good Gelato, after tasting a few, I was surprised to find that the flavors were not that tasty and asked to sample some other flavors. The lady helping us started sighing and rolling her eyes and rudely told us that it was two per person when her colleague let us try one more. We felt insulted by her rude tone so much that we decided to not give them business. Normally we ALWAYS buy ice cream after sampling, even when it’s not good, but she made me feel so terrible that we decided not to buy from them. We really wanted to love the Gelato because of the reviews but didn’t find a flavor that we liked and the service didn’t help. Surprised she was so mean when the two of us shared our samples AND brought 3 other people with us. If you’re an ice cream shop and you want to enforce some kind of sample limit, you should explicitly say that before someone samples, not reprimand them afterwards.

Frigidarium is a small yet highly popular gelato shop in Rome. It’s the most reviewed gelato shop on Unilocal and rightfully so! The cheapest cone or cup is 2 euros flat. You can pick two flavors, and add whipped cream or dip it in chocolate. I tasted the pistachio, the namesake(«Frigidarium»), and the Mozart. Mozart has caramel in it, so it’s very sweet. There are a few small benches outside, but they are usually filled. Instead, walk along the beautiful streets of Ponte with some awesome gelato in hand.

We have been in Rome for 3 days and we have gotten gelato from this place at least 4 times now. Hands down delicious! Our favorite flavors are the stracciatella, crema florentina, dark chocolate and raspberry sorbet! You are also given the option of having your gelato dipped in chocolate or white chocolate. Make sure you come ready to get messy and covered with deliciousness!

I think we came here twice during our stay in Rome. I think the gelato was one of the best on our trip(and we had a LOT of gelato!) My favorite was that they dipped your flavors in chocolate. It was super busy both times we stopped by, but they move through the line pretty quickly. Definitely worth the 5 – 10 minute wait. You won’t be disappointed!

Probably one of the absolute BEST gelato spots in Rome. Find everyone from Businessmen in suits grabbing a cone after work or during break time, to tourists and even gypsy beggars. There are so many damn gypsies within the vicinity who will harass you while you’re peacefully enjoying your cone. I couldn’t get one away from us who kept pointing at her crocs asking for a new pair hahaha! I laugh because they’re shameless aggressive beasts. She then settled to asking for a cone of gelato which was a no go since I’m a heartless bitch when it comes to them. We kept trying to shoo her away but the only way we were able to do so was with our cell phones. Yes, a goddamn cell phone! It’s like garlic to vampires, that’s the only way to get rid of them if they know they’re being recorded. So have your phones equipped and ready to fight off gypsies near this wonderful Gelateria. Their Frigidarium flavor is soooo wonderful! Have never tasted anything quite like it before. It’s some sort of caramel which comes with a chocolate cookie on top. Paired with nutty Pistachio, dipped in dark chocolate, it really was heaven on earth!

If I was allowed to take anything back from Italy to California, this little gelato shop would be my choice. It’s a 15 minute walk from St. Peter’s Basilica, located in a very small alleyway. The line wasn’t too bad when we arrived in the mid-afternoon, but it quickly queued up. Service is quick and the gelato is creamy and very delicious, practically indescribable(literally, cause I can’t remember my flavors, just that it was very good)! This shop 1-ups the other gelato shops in the area by adding some flair on top of their scoops. They give you the option of adding melted chocolate(dark or white) onto your gelato, which hardens into a crunchy shell. Get that liquid gold onto your gelato, pronto! Lastly, because our currency exchange rate for the $ was fairly good, it was cheap! It was only 2 euros, which was at the time equivalent to $ 2.24 in the US. Good & cheap! A win-win situation!

After spending the early afternoon at the Pantheon and Piazza Navona, the search for the next gelato stop ended at the intersection of Via del Governo Vecchio and Via Sora. There stood Frigidarium — proudly satisfying everyone’s craving since 1988. It is a very small gelateria with only a bench on each side and a multitude of customers gathered in front, either waiting for their turn or already enjoying their treat. This was just like our Old Bridge Gelateria experience but with a cool twist! We joined the queue, waited for our turn, sampled some flavors, and chose the ones our palettes desired. Sounded pretty standard, eh? True that… until they asked us if we wanted our orders dipped in dark or white chocolate! Moreover, it was a freebie! How cool was that? 2 € for a small but very generous serving of up to 2 flavors in a cup or cone with a free upgrade. If you’re not into those dark or white chocolate hard shells, you can opt for some whipped cream instead. There’s always a big chance that I will try something that’s named after the store itself, so I went with the Frigidarium flavor along with their Pistachio. The former was the closest thing to a burnt caramel, with swirls of dark chocolate and bits of cookies. Creamilicious but a bit on the sweeter side. However, the taste blended really well with the free dark chocolate coat. It also came with a complimentary cookie, so there’s no wonder why they made this their banner flavor. I thought the Pistachio flavor caught me off guard. I was stripped of all my defenses. I did not expect it to be that delicious. Perfectly nutty in every sense of the word. Rich in flavor and contained pieces of ground pistachio. Natural pale color, which meant they did not force it to look any other way. Great stuff. My older daughter went with Stracciatella and Biscotto, which were their versions of Chocolate Chip and Cookies and Cream, respectively. My younger one had Passionfruit(yeah, she had plenty of lilikoi when we were in O’ahu) and, for the love of Cookies and Cream, Biscotto. My wife wears her«Sharing is Caring» badge everytime, so she was very content with her spoon. I did try some of theirs too, and they were very consistent with the texture and taste. Delizioso! This was a very refreshing way to recharge after having done so much walking. A very picturesque setting as well, being in a small cobblestone street enjoying some fantastic gelato in Rome. Don’t get turned away if you see plenty of people outside. Join the crowd, fall in line, then fall in love…

My personal #1 favorite place for gelato. Their flavors are incredible, their prices are quite cheap(2 Euro for the smallest), portion sizes are big, and the BESTPART they will dip your gelato upside down in white or dark chocolate to form a hardshell coating on top!(for free) My favorite flavor is frigidarium, named after the place itself, it’s a hard one to explain so ask for a sample first, but they even give you a cookie with your gelato if you order this one(which then also gets chocolate coated if you’d like). Their strawberry and raspberry flavors are so delicious, much better than a usual fruit gelato. I also loved bacio and coconut, although I’ve found these flavors to be better at other gelato places in Italy. I went back for seconds nearly every time I went… it’s that good, and cheap enough to be an option. This is definitely a must-visit when you’re in Rome!

As a huge Unilocaler, I usually make a list of all the places I want to eat at in a city before my visit. Of course, I find these places via Unilocal. For Frigidarium, I actually had this place bookmarked, but since I was traveling in so many different cities, I forgot all about it until I stumbled upon it one night. Once I saw the line outside the door, I knew I had to jump in line. I literally have ZERO resistance to gelato. I tried the strawberry and mango sorbet and both of the flavors were amazing! The awesome thing about this place is that you can either add whipped cream to your gelato or you can get it chocolate dipped. I didn’t think chocolate-dipping my fruit flavored sorbet would be a good idea so I got the whipped cream. I think the cream was FRESH and overall went really well with the fruity flavors. Definitely one of the best gelato places in Rome!

Espectacular!!!

Yum! This place gets packed but the line moves quick. No seating here expect for two benches in front, which are usually occupied. Enjoy your cool treat to go or stand in the shade in between an alley. They have a nice variety of flavor options. I thought it was so cool that they offer free whipped cream or dark chocolate shell on top of your gelato. They also throw in a wafer for free too! It’s delicious. Two scoops of gelato and all the above for € 2, can’t beat that. Their gelato is so creamy, light, jam packed with flavor, and well blended. Quality ingredients are definitely used here. Service is quick and friendly. I’m still dreaming about this place.
