Also known as Casa Santa Francesca Romana, this guest house specializes in catering to pilgrimage groups. It’s in a former 16th century palazzo, converted to a convent, and now converted to guest housing & run by a secular institution. Don’t worry — everyone is welcome. You don’t have to be religious or on a pilgrimage, just a traveler looking for reasonable accommodation in a great area. It is a quiet place, so party hearty backpackers probably won’t be tolerated. Facilities: beautiful common rooms, a small chapel and a charming courtyard. Free wifi, though it only works on the ground floor(you may be lucky though. My room 226 got a signal, my friends next door didn’t). There is aircon and a coffin sized lift. Rooms: basic and very clean. Rooms will vary in size and all are unique. Mine had twin beds, a desk & chair and good sized armoire. My bathroom was large and spotless. The room was refreshed daily and I never lacked for fresh towels or soap. Sleep: beds are firm. Windows are good quality and blocked almost all street noise. The hallway noise can be an issue though if you have noisy neighbors. Breakfast: a good European style spread of coronettos, yogurt, whole fruit, cold cuts and juice/coffee. It’s included in your room rate so eat up! Staff: ranged from merely pleasant to downright wonderful. Most staffers recognized us after a day or so and were really nice + helpful with recommends. Locale: two minutes from the Tiber, in a nice area of Trastevre, with tons of restaurants within a few blocks. You can walk to almost any major tourist site in less than 30 minutes. The Forum is a 7 – 10 min walk. There’s a cab stand on Viale Trastevre as well. I wouldn’t stay here on a romantic trip with my husband. But, for a group of girlfriends looking for clean, quiet, safe place to stay it was perfect!
