A éviter !

We had the basic pasta carbonara and a penne with vegetables. This place was good and the waitress was very friendly. No complaints!

I love pizza and pizza in Italy is the best in the world. However, I wish I would’ve walked just a bit further down the road before I decided to stop into this place. It’s location near the Trevi Fountain screams«tourist rip-off» but we were hot, tired and hungry and popped inside. Pizza Roma has the pizza by the slice system. You go up to the case and pick out which pizzas you want and how much you want. The lady behind the counter cuts off a portion and then heats it up in the oven. We settled on a white sauce /zucchini pizza and some weird combination of salami, tomato and corn(!?!). The pizza was really bad. It wasn’t inedible, but wasn’t good at all. The worst part about the place is that is was filthy. The table was sticky, the chairs, floor and walls were caked with dirt and dust. And don’t get me started on the bathroom — it was BEYOND disgusting. And we were there before 11 am, at the start of the day! At least the employees were friendly and the service was good. There are some tables inside and a set ‘tourist menu.’ That should’ve been the tipoff to get the heck out of there, but we wanted pizza and a seat. Avoid this place. It’s not good.

So it’s really hard to tell what pizza place to stop at when there are so many everywhere, and they’re all claiming to be the best. So you kind of just cross your fingers every time, hoping that you’ll walk away happy. But that didn’t happen for me. It was a hot day, and me and some friends were looking for pizza and air conditioning. The friendly waitress invited us in and sat us in the back. We were enticed with the good deal of about 5 – 6 euros for a pizza, spaghetti, or lasagna with a beverage. My sister ordered a white sauce spaghetti, and wasn’t very pleased with it. Our two other friends ordered lasagna. And they found them to be average. Something they themselves could easily do, and even make better. I got a pizza combination, which I paid a few more euros for, but that was fine, I just really wanted to try a variety. And turns out that they weren’t so good. The pizza reminded me of a pizza in a high school cafeteria. Maybe less greasy and not so stale looking, but still… You go to Italy, hoping that all the pizza places magically touch your heart. But there was only one pizza place that I actually enjoyed, and it was in Cinque Terre, that made me happy that I wasn’t going to go back home disappointed. But PIzza Roma, which claims to be «The Best Pizza in Rome» on it’s business card, was actually quite average.
