I’m always on the lookout for nasi kandar — and one truth is that unless you’re willing to venture deep into the heart of KL, the best nasi kandar around is at the most prominent chain restaurant, Pelita. The food’s cheap but good, with generous portions and strong flavors. The service is frighteningly efficient. Have it there or take it home: just be careful, get greedy with your plate of nasi kandar and you may end up with a dozen dishes and a mountainous bill!

I had heard of this place for a long time before I actually decided to go there. This is a traditional Malaysian restaurant chain that is in many places around KL. In the bangsar area, this seems to be one of the most recommended traditional Malaysian food restaurants. I’ve only been there once and I have the beef curry sauce which was delicious. The price is extremely cheap and the service is quite alright. I recommend it if you want to explore a little more of the local food.

Unmistakeably the largest Nasi Kandar chain restaurant in Malaysia, I particularly love the Sambal Udang(tiger prawns in a spicy thick curry sauce) and Kambing Ros(roasted mutton in curry sauce) dishes and always have them when I come to Pelita. For the main course, Nasi Biryani Ayam(Chicken Biryani rice) is superb. Smells and taste equally delicious. Be prepared to eat in a humid environment though as space is open and there is no air conditioning, only ceiling fans. But the Nasi Kandar here is one of the better ones I’ve tried in Malaysia and the store is always packed at night(better to go in the day). Parking in the area can be a pain especially on the weekends when it gets very busy as it situated right in the middle of Bangsar close to other well-nown hotspots like Yeast, Matsuya and La Bodega, However, you can park in the basement levels of Bangsar Village 1 or 2 and walk some distance as it is not difficult to spot this shophouse its big blue signboard and bright yellow font.
