Attended Cambridge award at Garden Sch N decided to celebrate her achievement. Best in biology in malaysia in the Cambridge exam. Checked Unilocal and thought this is an interesting place to eat. Quite surprised by the pretty Christmas deco n the Christmas carols they played. Put us into a Christmassy mood. The food helping is not big but it suits the price. Pretty cheap for a western food joint. Great looking desserts at a very affordable price. Overall food is quite nice. Price is very economical. Lots of lovely cakes n pastries to choose from. Will recommend to those who love western food at a budget.

Backofen, the least appealing name since Dragon-I, serves pretty decent Western food in the Sri Hartamas district. Or not. Look, there is a huge difference between some of the dish’s overall flavor profile. Their chicken chop is an average dish, and their breakfast tastes amazingly good, but that is probably because most of the items on it are processed food. That being said, I have eaten here for millions of times, because there is(or was, do not know if it exists now or not) another branch in Taylor’s, and this branch did not change much. It’s just a meh. Such a meh restaurant having such a decent reputation should be slaughtered and be handed up the Gods, because they simply do not deserve it.

A taste of European food is something spectacular and rather uncommon to find in KL. Thank the owners of Backofen who started this peculiar café/restaurant at Desa Sri Hartamas. Introduced by then girlfriend, now fiancé, it was such a joy to know that they serve sauerkraut. I have been always wanting to get some since my trip to Sydney 2 years ago. And finally, I am able to enjoy it here with their awesome meatloaf. It is not too heavy and they serve with in reasonable proportion. Other than the meatloaf, their freshly baked bread is something worth trying too.

I love going to this place during my lunch time because it’s totally value for money. Averagely the main course here ranges from RM15 to RM30 and their dishes is delectable as they use fresh and delectable ingredients to cook it. They offer an affordable lunch set every weekday with a full meal, coffee or tea and also a bowl of soup which they did not skimp of the ingredients used. As a customer I really do come back for more and the food is still predictably good. Their dishes can be considered as fast food styled western meal here hence you can find dishes like schnitzel, spaghetti, salads and fish here. Their fried based meals are my favourite and I do think their cooking style is suits the Malaysian taste buds perfectly — full flavoured with a slight Asian fusion on the ingredients. The dining space is brightly lit with white light and wooden tables and appeals to you more as the homey restaurant rather than the upscale modern and fancy place. I do love some of the waitress there because they are so sweet and polite! I remembered that she taken a wrong order and we took it anyway to avoid fuss because the lady just very apologetic about it. Well after a while we totally forgotten about it and she surprised us with a lovely cake. Well the thought was really sweet isn’t it? To come back for more!

Not too sure what to expect, I looked through the menu and thought I’d give it a try since the price wasn’t too high. The Roasted Chicken though was a huge portion, was quite ordinary for me. It was served with mash, cut out salad and some gravy. I didn’t think much of the gravy, thought it was almost canteen standard. Basically nothing on my plate really stood out, everything was just safe and bland. It is known as one of the favorites here but it failed to impress me. But at RM16, it is a good portion. The Spicy Fried Spaghetti didn’t do any better in my books. Looking somewhat like your regular mee goreng, it was very red. I tried it and was surprised with how sour it tasted, I supposed it’s because of the use of tomatoes. Though it was spicy, I didn’t like it. One thing I did like though was the Baked Cheese Cake. I thought it was quite good, soft enough and cheesy, and not pricey at all! It was my favorite thing on the table. I think this place is known as a German Bakery, which would explain. They have many varieties of cakes. Place was quite packed though, even with reserved tables. I’m curious and surprised.

This is one of the food places I would always turn to whenever I’m around Hartamas because they serve good western food and the price is reasonable. I’ve tried a number of their soup choices and I must say I like them all. Very original and tasty and generous in portion. Their main course has not disappoint me yet and their pastry and dessert is yummy too! One other thing I would to point out is that their staff is friendly and attentive. At least for the Hartamas branch that I’ve been to. They are always ready to serve you. Lastly, at anytime of the day, you’ll most probably find yourself listening to all sorts of acoustic renditioned songs whenever you’re dining here. It’s always inviting to find this place delightful every time I visit it.
