Conservatorium Hotel

This Brasserie of the Hotel has Very good food, and very good service,
The wine list has many international good wines,
The Duck dish was very good and the veal was outstanding
The prices are little higher than other Amsterdam restaurants, but the food quality and the service is worst it.
We like this brassiere and we will comeback soon

You might want to grab a drink and a comfy chair, cause I have a couple things to say. Three of us had a reservation for 12:30pm, we got there a bit early and went to the host desk. I think the host used to be some sort of investigator from the critical once over look he gave people as they arrived. We waited in the lounge for the lunch seating to begin, and all the people around us to get invited to sit down. At 12:45pm, with the restaurant mainly empty, we went to the host to inquire why we hadn’t been seated yet. They said there was some sort of mix up between the hosts, and promptly sat us.
The waitress explained that there is a buffet option, but you are only allowed to get one plateful of food. Well, maybe you can have two, but they can’t be full plates. Now, I am an American by birth, so I may have a skewed perception of what a buffet is, but in all of the 30ish countries I have eaten in, I’ve never been to a buffet in which you get ONE plate of food. Mind you, we were well outfitted — my boyfriend’s mom has a high end fashion boutique and he is an interior designer, so it wasn’t like a, «Oh let’s make sure these poor, overeating bastards don’t come in and scarf down 4 plates full of food each,» warning. It was how they see fit to showcase the buffet to their customers.
Shortly after, they brought us some tasty bread which I was munching on when another man, who, based on his manner, must have been some Super VP Senior level waiter, not just any ordinary «brings you your food» waiter, (we dubbed him «The Waiter King), walked up as I had a mouthful of bread and asked us if we knew what we wanted. I nodded yes, and kind of closed mouth smiled and pointed at my cheek giving the universal, «I have food in my mouthful» signal, upon which time he said, «Well then, do you want to tell me what it is?» at which point I felt it was okay to show him my partially chewed bread and say, «I’m sorry, I’m chewing.» This was apparently not an acceptable response. He just sort of stood there waiting for me, as I pointed to the two other people at the table who didn’t have food in their mouths, so perhaps, maybe, he could inconvenience himself to take their orders while I swallowed.
Fast forward to meal time — I got a club sandwich (creative, I know), the others at my table had the pork cheek and some sort of white fish, and we shared green vegetables. all of which were tasty, but completely unremarkable. I posted a picture of my sandwich, which came with crisps/​chips on a stick. I thought this was the perfect example of the stiff and meaningless pomp and circumstance that is thick in the air at this place. I’m sure the person who thought of this food presentation still sits around thinking how avant-​garde it is. If only they put as much thought into the service and the food, they might really have something.
The space is absolutely gorgeous. Afterwards a couple really friendly waiters came by. The Tunes bar has amazing cocktails and sushi. Did I mention the place is beautiful? And yet, I have written a novel length, primarily negative review (which I rarely do) all because of the odd, inhospitable environment of this place. Yes, you are a fancy hotel. Yes it is expensive. If anything, this simply means that your bar is that much higher. Get it together guys. And someone tell The Waiter King to pull the stick out of his rump.

This place used to be a bank when it was built in 1901. Now it’s one of the nicest hotels in which I’ve had the pleasure of visiting. The designer is Italian and took a very modern and simplistic approach in the rooms. I stayed in the Junior sweet for my vacation in Amsterdam. The bathroom floor is heated. The service is impeccable and the long beautiful corridors with oversized doors and large stone columns are breathtaking. Stay here. You’ll love it.

We nearly gave up on the notion of having a decent meal in Amsterdam, until I suggested checking this brasserie out.
The brasserie is located downstairs in the atrium of the hotel. It’s a large, vacuous, but well-​appointed space. Very modern.
The food, I would say, is on par with the exceptional quality I have experienced in similar, high-​end restaurants in NYC or Las Vegas. The service was more than adequate, and the food was truly something special. I ordered the beef cheeks with mac and cheese – and both were done well, and the portion size was perfect for me, not too much, not too little. My husband ordered the duck breast which was wonderfully presented with a beurrek, parsnip purée and a delicious sauce.
The hotel is conveniently located, so after a day at the Rijksmuseum or the VanGogh museum, head here for perhaps the best meal you’ll find in Amsterdam.

If you Wish to be Spoiled as we are in room 326, look no further! Amazing and Very Friendly Staff not to be forgotten too is the Amazing Interiors of this 4+Star Hotel.
Great Vibe/​Ambience, Superior in too many ways to mention. Perfect Location too.

Fantastique renovation architecturale, le batiment est magnifique. Le service est sympa rapide et professionnel. Le restaurant est simple et correct. Les chambres sont spacieuses et lumineuses.
Tout concorde pour la perfection et pourtant, il manqué quelque chose. Trop impersonnel? Trop «mode pour la mode» ?
Domage parce qu’on aurait vraiment voulu aimer…

The stars are for the modern Japanese Restaurant at the upper floor. It is high price, but very authentic with an excellent kitchen. Very good Sushi and some nice modern Japanese variations (meat and fish)… If your like positive surprises. Staff was very friendly and helped a lot finding the right menus for all the family. Try the lemon dessert sake, very difficult to get in Europe. The restaurant is just a quick walk away from the Ryksmuseum and was a nice late afternoon experience after visiting the museum.

We stayed here during our honeymoon and had a wonderful experience. The hotel staff was attentive. There was some slow service during breakfast but not below dropping world standards. The breakfast itself was a great selection of fresh ingredients, blended health drinks, yogurts, etc. The bar was a bit pricey but the gin was appreciated. Our room (jr. suite) was gorgeous. The hotel — lobby, halls, overall design — is jaw droppingly beautiful. The spa is elegant. A beautiful hotel I recommend.

Beautiful hotel with well appointed rooms and thoughtful service. Some suites are two floors with a double height living room. The bathrooms are quite large with a large tuba and separate large shower area. Probably the nicest shower/​bath design I’ve seen.
The restaurant and bar were both as expected for a upper class hotel.

The atrium where the Brasserie is looks absolutely fantastic.
The reception at the brasserie was a bit cold and arrogant and went two times.
Service is fast and good as it should be in a 5* hotel.
Food one day was sensational (coq au vin from the daily menu), another day was tasteless (fish with some vegetables). The steak of my guest was also just average.
Nevertheless I put 4 stars mainly due to the exceptional architecture of the place, for the food would be a 3.

My review will echo most of the other reviews. The hotel is beautiful and that’s about it. Front desk service was good but the responsiveness/​attentiveness to everything else they’re not up to par with other 5 star hotels. My other colleagues felt the same way. It’s such a shame because they’re is so much potential, but I really wish I had stayed somewhere else. I’m thankful for the shelter they provided, but honestly not worth the price given the service. Come here for a drink, but stay somewhere else.

This review is for their café/​restaurant and the areas accessible to the public. The place looks nice at first but fails to deliver on quality. Eventually it just seems like there’s a lot more gaud than good. You’d think that for their super high prices you’d get something a little better than Nespresso. Alas…

Good music. Good g&t. Beautiful décor, so bring good company and enjoy people watching and go into the night with good conversations.

This is a really hard review to write.
I love this hotel (though only stayed a short time). It was beautiful, the lobby was nice, but our room was truly breathtaking (to me). I like modern design and this was a beautiful combo of modern with dutch traditional accents. The bath, shower, view, everything was just spectacular.
Well then, what was the problem?
We arrived from an international flight. We had a hotel host show us to our room. He then mentioned to us that he would send someone up with an additional luggage rack. We thanked him and he left. We were hungry and after taking a few things out of the luggage, decided to just go out instead and grab a quick bite to eat. We unfortunately did not think (I felt so at home there) to put everything away into the safe immediately. When we returned, a newly purchased necklace (still in the box) disappeared. It was one of the few items I remember my wife taking out of the suitcase (it was on top, due to customs I believe) and putting right next to the safe, in preparation of putting it in the safe, until I interrupted her and said, «let’s just go and grab a quick bite».
What a mistake. If you stay here, be really careful with ALL of your belongings. When we realized the necklace was missing, and I told the «head of security» of what occurred (and the 2 hour window that it occurred during), I figured something could, or would be done. He told me that they would look into it and follow up with me. He did not, and when we asked about it upon checkout, we were told that they would follow up in an email (basically brushing us off). They never did. It ruined the whole experience, and that specific portion of the trip.

there’s is no way i would ever be able to stay at the hotel, but i really like this bar. It all looks ultra modern and chique and the whole hotel looks fantastic. I never had food here, but it looks gorgeous, Japanese inspieed. They have an excellent choice of wines, bottle or glass, and a very friendly sommelier. The cocktails are amazing, the best i have had in Amsterdam. The atmoaphere is business casual, i would no wear my old jeans, but designer clothes are absolutely not necessary. The staff is very, very friendy and give you wasabi or cashew nuts with you drinks or delicious tiny pastries with your coffee or tea. If you are looking for an upscale experience in a pricey part of town, i would definie recommend this.

Being one of the better hotels in Amsterdam, I had high expectations. That said, I was let down mostly just by the service as the facilities were gorgeous.
Brunch at the hotel was interesting… We waited for our drinks over 30 minutes because they supposedly came from another bar. Then, when ordering I specified that I did not want mayonnaise on any of my meal. When the sandwich came out there was mayo inside the sandwich and dumped all over the fries.
After a disappointing meal at the restaurant, we went to the spa. The facilities were very nice and I had a lovely masseuse.
I would only return here for the spa… And maybe the shops!

To start… I have written a review before, loved it! Loved the service! The service was great.
And there it is. It wàs. I’ve been there around 5 times in the last few months and the last 3 have been very disappointing, lacking in good (if any) service.
No bread basket or drinks questions… Thanks! Not…
Forgetting dishes, never getting coffee and tea but having to raise my voice for they didn’t believe me, whilst arguing over the bill (almost € 250, — for 4 people, starters and mains, 4 glasses if wine and 2 beers, a bottle of water and… the coffees and tea never came to our table. That’s it :)
We saw 4 different waiters, 1 blond girl was great, the rest was just… not very welcoming, interested in what we wanted to order or if we wanted to order anything… cause it took them for ever to take our order!!!
Pppffff… And than, well. We waited 70 minutes for our main courses. They finally arrived! Whoop whoop! Cause the food tastes great! …no? Oh shit. No. The Sunday roast was cold… Really cold… 3 plates go back. One plate had really, really nice cod.
An other 20 minutes later… Food! And is was good.
Shoot! Brasserie! I used to be in love with you, I won’t break up with you, but… we have to start seeing others too.
PS and the toilets smelled of… toilets! And now, I’m on a role anyway: heavy perfumes Lilies in the lobby? Next to the brasserie? Really? I WANT TO SMELL MY MOTHER IN LAWS HEAVY PERFUME OVER DINNER! Not your lilies in my glass of wine… (Hahaha!!)

Great location, ok food, and long waits.
Service was excellent, you actually feel you are being pampered, but i wouldn’t really give a 5* for the quality of food. I had the Burger, and it was too plain. my wife had a their daily muscles, and it was cooked very well, but i felt its missing some flavors.
Overall, good place just to chill away from the busy city centrum, a unique lounge bar located in an historic building, great view of the skyline from the brasserie…

SEHR schönes, stilvolles Hotel. Klasse Design. Erstklassiger Service. Auch wenn man all das bei dem Preis auch erwarten darf, trotzdem 5 Sterne.

This review is for the Brasserie of the hotel which is accessible also for non hotel’s guests.
Quite a large menu. Service is a bit slow and not very accurate for the look of the place which is clearly high end.
The place is inside the covered yard, so no worry about bad weather.
I had a late brunch with smoked salmon bagel with avocado, very nice. My friend got white asparagus with smoked salmon, very good also but a bit too cold (ice cold)
Full bar for any taste. Looks and feel a bit snobbish. and it is actually. The whole hotel setting is nice even if the colour black is too much everywhere.
Pricey.

This is a review for tunes, the fine dining restaurant inside the conservatory hotel. They should consider giving tunes it’s own object inside Unilocal,cause now this rating is lowering the average of the hotel.
The service of tunes had a slow start but recovered in terms of swiftness.
However, overall service level just isn’t up to snuff. Which mainly has to do with the type of people they’ve hired. Instead of high-​end professionals it feels like they hired young students with experience working in all-​you-​can-​eat-​restaurants. None of them had the proper training to work at a place that starts at 100 € /​130 $ a person (which doesn’t include wine/​drinks).
You get a ticket with a number to reclaim your coat, which I have never experienced in a place like this. Hey guys, how about writing my table number or last name on a ticket and that way fetch me my coat?
It’s their tone (rather blunt). It’s their «I wish this day was over» attitude. It’s them serving you from left and from right. It’s them picking up your glass with their fingers on the top (drinking) part of the glass, and then putting it down again (to check if there’s any water left, or to make sure their germs will touch your lips?). In a place like this you expect people who are obsessed with food, fine dining and fine service.
The food.
I missed the surprise of both taste and presentation. That thing where you wished you could order a pound of that dish to go, just because it tastes so damn good. This was good, in the ‘meh’ sense. Not great. One starter didn’t work for us (the «nagelkaas») but that could be preference.
That being said, their apple pie desert is very well done, original presentation (almost librije like), tasted great, albeit a bit heavy on the chocolate. The menu missed that kind of creative spark.
The good;
— although it lacks a clear concept, it does look really nice and cozy.
— the apple pie desert is very original.
— accommodated allergies very well, created a custom dish. Huzzah!
— wine by the glass very reasonably priced, and good selection.
The bad;
— hostess very inexperienced, seriously! give her proper training.
— waiters very sweet but lack training as well.
— dishes aren’t living up to the promise of the environment.
— it’s hella cramped. If you want to talk about personal stuff, your neighbors will totally hear everything. (Luckily ours were Scandinavian)
Overall just too much «Amsterdam horeca» to be playing in the metropolitan league where this pretends to be.

This review is for Tunes, the bar inside the Conservatorium Hotel (also a restaurant, apparently, but I did not dine there).
The Tunes bar inside the hotel was used as a starting point for a recent Unilocal event, and I liked it. The space is attractive, swanky and modern, and the service is good. Drinks were served large and delicious, with a serving of almonds. A perfectly comfortable (and probably expensive) experience. Good for a romantic drink or an upscale group gathering — no loud crowds, please!
PS — the pictures seem to be of the lounge, not the Tunes space. But the lounge also looked like a good place to meet, and it was easier to find. Maybe that’s where the louder group can go. :)
