Hans Brinker Hotel

The hotel gives everything you need.
The rooms are okay. I missed some hooks for the clothes in the bathroom.
We had nice roommates. The middle age in the hotel is nice young, so it is a relaxing atmosphere.
In the bar I felt good.
The breakfast isn’t that wonderful but it is okay for that price.
The hotel is very central. Nearby to the hotel are few shops for renting bikes what is a nice, nearly necessary vehicle in that city.
What I didn’t like was the thing with the internet. For getting Wi-​Fi you have to log in with facebook and like the hotel. For having Wi-​Fi for longer time you have to allow them to post something in your name. In my opinion it’s brash.

This place was awesome and affordable. The bartenders in the bar area were awesome especially Max. They had a club that stayed open late downstairs to get your last few drinks in before crashing out. I’ve been in nicer, cleaner and more luxurious hostels but this one had been by far the most fun. If you can’t handle a little roughness around the edges this place isn’t for you.

Auberge sympa, malheureusement le dortoir était pas super propre, il faisait chaud et aucune possibilité d’aérer pour évacuer les odeurs des toilettes dans la chambre. Mais excellente localisation, au milieu de tout, coffee shop à 20m, bonne ambiance dans l’auberge (happy hour à 2 € la pinte tous les jours), idéale pour une bande de mecs pas très regardant sur le côté clean de leur chambre !

We shilled for the twin room, great choice. Compared with our friends in the 8 bed dorm, it was like a 5 star hotel.
The room was on the 4^th floor so it was fairly quiet. There was air conditioning, lockers and the bedding was clean and comfortable. The ensuite bathroom was great, but as a word of warning, it is basically a glass box, so you and your room mate will need to very comfortable with nudity and the sounds of each other’s bathroom business…
Free WiFi in the common area, and if I opened the window in my room I could even get one bar of service when I was upstairs. Win.
The food and drinks are cheap and cheerful, and the staff are very helpful with directions etc. Everything is closeby, bike rental, cafes, ‘coffeshop’, sex shop, tattoo shops and pubs in the same street. And the Red Light District is about 15 minutes walk, on the other side of Dam Square.

The worst hostel in Europe?
I don’t know where those people were staying but I can tell you a few stories about bad hostels. Hans Brinker is not that bad and with the price your paying, to stay at a prime location this is most definitely a 5 star stay! You get what you pay for after all!
The bunks don’t have ladders, that was problematic at 4am I can tell you. There is a smell of the ganja, despite the ‘no dope’ signs. The clientele won’t be getting into any country clubs anytime soon. There’s you, and 500 odd other people staying there so check in and check out requires patience (especially the 10 am checkout!)
However, breakfast is included.
There’s free wifi.
There’s a nightclub in the hostel.
There’s drinks promotions constantly.
The staff are lovely despite putting up with tourists in Amsterdam all day (if you get me).
You are unbelievably central when you stay here.
There’s lovely restaurants right outside the door.
The rooms are safe and ensuite (ensuite people!) and the beds are halfway decent. There’s lockers in the rooms, free of charge.
It’s reasonably quiet at night (as everyone who’s still awake is in the nightclub).
Everyone staying seems friendly.
I would definitely stay again, not even one naked person accosted me (seriously, I have lots of stories about bad hostels…)

This hostel was not my choice, I was on a tour and this was the selected accommodations include in the tour. While I appreciated this was included, I don’t have to love it.
A few pros and cons:
Cons:
1. Bunks do not have ladders — Ok, I was able to climb up there without assistance, but it was either me or the 4’9″ girl I was bunking with up there. Yeah there was no way she’d be able to get up there without some help.
2. Elevator smells like piss — I know you get drunk/​high people in your establishment around the clock but do something about it.
Pros:
1. Ensuite bathrooms.
2. Large lounge area/​bar — quite nice, I liked it. It had WiFi too. Can’t complain.
3. Pretty close to everything — 20 minutes walk from Centraal station, 15 minutes walk from Dam Square, 5 minutes to Heineken brewery or Leidseplein. Or get a bike and ride everywhere.
4. They say free WiFi is only on the main bar/​lounge area, it does reach quite a few floors, if you’re in rooms on the same side, you’d be able to access the WiFi from your room.
Though, yes, I only basically just cleaned myself up and slept there, getting to my room on the fourth floor was interesting. Gum and other rubbish on the floor in the stairwell, some lights were out, it goes on.
If/​when I come back here on my own, I’d probably research a few more hostels, might be able to find a few even closer and if you book ahead of time, it’d be pretty cheap.

As far as hostels go Hans Brinker are pretty good.
I enjoyed my stay there.
I’d definitely stay there again if I go back to Amsterdam, it has everything you need & when in Amsterdam you aren’t spending that much time in your hotel room so it’s a great, plus a great base point to get to the places you want to go and see.
Best thing about this hostel, the stairwell down to the underground nightclub!
Can’t say I stayed in the nightclub for long as it was full of 16 year old, would have been great otherwise.

A hostel is a hostel is a hostel. At Hans Brinker, it’s not that bad. You’re in Amsterdam for the food, the museums, the shows, the shopping, and other extracurricular activities. As long as I have a bed and a shower, I’m good to go. Here at Hans Brinker, I got both. Oh! I do remember there were no ladders to get onto the top bunk — so you may have to get a push up there, or climb your way up.
Stop complaining. If you’d like something more luxurious, there are hotels out there ;)
