I’d love to give this place 4.5 stars but I can’t. So it’s probably good enough to get 5 stars if I have to make a decision to round up or down.
I live around the area and have been past Browns many times and always meant to try it out, but never got around to it until today. And why have I waited so long. The coffee is great, the cabinet selection is vast and looked delicious and the menu wasn’t extensive but had a good range of options. The service was good, but table service would have been nice.
I had the Italian rosti which was a potato rosti, 2 large Italian sausages, some salad and poached eggs. It was great. My friend had poached eggs on toast and a side of mushrooms — and the mushrooms were great! The prices are very reasonable for St Heliers. And I’m going to be back here for sure.

While in St Heliers to pick up a Trademe win, the husband and I stopped by this cute little café. We sat outside in the morning sun and I had the best vanilla slice I’ve even had in NZ, with a fantastic cup of coffee. The staff were super friendly and nice, and it was a little relaxing slice of heaven on a Sunday morning. Next time I’m around St Heliers, I’ll definitely be back!

Browns Café was a delightful surprise for me when I headed out St Heliers way for a doctor’s appointment. I stopped in and was so stoked with the café. I love the style of it. It’s a corner store on the end of a block of shops and they’ve renovated it really classically. I love their outdoor furniture, it’s fresh, comfy and I felt like I could stay their all day.
Their wild rice salad caught my eye and it smelt amazing when the waitress placed it down in front of me. It was an asian style salad with chickpeas, vegetables and loads of fragrant flavours.
The staff were really friendly and you could tell it’s a community café as the waitress was having a good chat to one of the customers and actually knew him by name! Good on them. They’re doing a good job and I’ll definitely be stopping in next time I’m in St Heliers.
