I’ve given Wilder & Hunt multiple chances to impress, and each time they’ve fallen short. Today I had a smoothie that had fruit, spinach and coconut milk — it was so chunky the straw kept getting blocked. I’d get bitter bits of lemon pith and spinach stalks. Smooth it was not! Being paleo I was pretty happy to see they had sandwiches on offer… problem is, paleo bread is on the dry side when it’s fresh, give it a day or two and it’s like particleboard. Both times I’ve tried them, the sandwiches taste and look like they aren’t fresh — the bread is so dry it falls apart, the lettuce is wilted around the edges, and the mayo has that dark, set look where it’s been exposed to air. I make paleo bread and sammies at home, so know it’s possible for them to taste close to the gluten filled alternative. On the upside, their sweet treats are pretty flawless. And the space is gorgeous.

Wow, wow and wow! I took some advice from Samantha and took a visit this lunch time. Seriously it was worth every second and every dollar for that matter. Great friendly and informative staff with a very open and modern café right in the heart of Ponsonby(they have two locations btw). I had the most amazing chicken sandwich and beetroot chocolate cake! Seriously to die for. Go along and experience this place cause it’s an experience of it’s own.

Having gone pale a year ago, and having suffered from food allergies for many years, hearing about Wilder and Hunt immediately put it on my ‘MUSTDO’ list for when I visited Auckland. Oh my gosh I was not disappointed. The range of food is incredible. Their slices were delicious, their smoothies — I cannot rave enough about how good the chocolate(cacao) smoothie was… just incredible. Their pre-cooked takeaway meals are absolutely delicious(I had the herbed chicken — yum!) and they have a salad bar plus a huge range of other products. They sell coconut milk yoghurt which I haven’t seen anywhere else, and they have the incredibly delicious bee’s blessings cordials — a natural cordial sweetened with NZ honey! If you care about what you put in your body, this is definitely a place to visit. I am well impressed. The location is kind of annoying because it’s so out of the way, but it is worth it. Well done Wilder and Hunt!

A café/food-store that caters to those on the Paleo diet. I was a great fan of their chocolate shake which doesn’t actually contain chocolate but cocoa! The shakes are $ 10 which is a little pricy for me, but I suppose one would use this as a meal replacement? Great reading material on the table if you wanna learn more about how to keep up your Paleo lifestyle(although not for me!).

Finally had the chance to scope out newly opened Wilder+Hunt. I came armed with an empty stomach and a serious smoothie craving. Needless to say, I was not disappointed. Although small and still in the«organizing» phase, W+H stocks a decent range of organic/raw products(i.e. hemp seed oil, various raw powders, teas, honey, raw food bars… etc) and is a welcome addition to the health-light neighborhood. Total fan of the smoothie selection! I opted for the Rich Chocolate Elixir this time around which came chock full of banana, mixed berries, raw cacao, coconut cream, almond milk, almond butter, ground flax seed & pure maple syrup. mmmmmm. A 16oz will set you back $ 10 but it’s filled to the brim and honestly the most satisfying smoothie I’ve had to date. No joke, I was full for the rest of the day(which never happens to me). For those of you expecting a café, however, it’s not quite there yet. There’s a wide selection of refrigerated/frozen meals to go(made on premises!) which all look delicious, as well as some sweet/savory cabinet food(I had my eye on those ginger cake towers!), but not much in the form of sit-down meal options. They’re starting a fresh salad bar, though, so keep an eye out! Can’t wait to come back and see how this place evolves, I’m rooting for you!
