I chose this hotel blindly on Travelocity hoping for a cheap but clean hotel. I should have done more research… This hotel is pretty much in the middle opf nowhere. The free airport shuttle pickup was nice, and a $ 2 charge for a return trip was very fair. This is NOT a hotel for those of you expecting one. This is a motel. You enter your room through a sliding glass door. There is no room safe, you’re invited to leave valuables at the front desk. Call me a control freak, but I am NOT leaving jewelry and my passport in the hands of strangers. Since the motel is in the middle of a bunch of industrial buildings, finding a restaurant in walking distance is not an option, especially in the pouring rain. The motel has an adjacent restaurant, but the menu is primarily Indian food… and not that good of Indian food. They were out of several items on the menu, and what I had killed my hunger but was not«good» food. They promote free wifi, but they give you 200mb only then you have to buy more. I killed that checking my email and scrolling 2 pages on fb. The toilet makes a racket like old pipes in a 100-year old building every time the toilet is flushed. I felt bad using the restroom in the middle of the night, hoping it didn’t disturb other guests. I know I sure heard THEM use their bathrooms… This motel is close to the airport but quite far from the city, so be prepared for a $ 60 Über ride each way, if you want to venture into downtown Auckland. I didn’t have that cash, it was raining, and I felt very paranoid leaving my valuables unsecured in my room after a previous reviewer commented on items being stolen, so I just crashed early. I would never stay here again and wish their website had been a bit more upfront on several of their accommodations, or lack thereof. I highly considering packing my bags and calling a cab to take me to a nearby Holiday Inn.

With the exception of one or two, customer service was very poor. My cousin and I were there for 2 nights for a layover on our way to Australia. While we were gone room service came in and stole the $ 30 of chocolate my cousin had brought as gifts for the friends we were visiting. We asked the front desk about it and check back home to make sure she hadn’t misplaced it, but the Kiwi employees were of no help and everyone back home remembered my cousin packing it all. They Kiwi International Hotel employees were not curt and unhelpful(even when asking about other things such as transportation), the complimentary breakfast is incredibly limited(toast and yogurt), and make sure you hide your candy, because they can’t be trusted with that either.

I moved to Auckland last year from Australia and did not know anyone, had no job and had no new home lined up, but filled with optimism! So, over the web we found this hotel and picked it for a few reasons — including the big fake kiwi stuck to the roof. Kitsch is cool! It served us well for… I think it was less than a week, time has blurred. It was ok for a temporary situation, not the type of hotel I would pick for a romantic get away or touristy visit to Auckland, it is close to the airport but not much else! They had some washing machines, dryers and the internet, three things we really needed which was useful They offered a continental breakfast, which was pretty blah but it filled the belly. We had some trouble with the phone in our room, so within the first few days of being there we had a electrician come in to fix it. Now this guys was from South Africa and said he actually wanted to go back home because the crime was so bad in Auckland, South Auckland to be exact — a not so welcome to our first few days in our new land!
