Another good spot for catching up with people if you are in the Kingsland area. This place always seems to be popular. By day the beer is flowing. By night, the beat is pumping and the girls take to(or make) the dance floor.

Great vibes and beautiful décor, I thought this was one of the nicest bars I’ve been in. It feels like a quaint, old school library inside, with bookcases and large armchairs. The outside area is speckled with fairy lights, making for a very attractive invitation to any passersby. The live music was just amazing, as those who were performing had oodles of talent! I had some potato cubes with dips, which were pricey, but nice. It reminded me a lot of Northern Steamship on Quay St, but with loads more space to breathe. Definitely recommended! :)

You don’t get much better than drinks at Neighbourhood on a sunny Sunday afternoon. There is a huuuge courtyard with ample seating, the vibe is laid-back, the jugs are massive, the pizzas are tasty and more often than not there is live music… ideal. That being said, on our last visit the sun was most definitely not shining and we were forced to sit inside for the first time ever. Although initially disappointed, we ended up having an hoot of a time. The leather banquettes were extremely comfortable, the staff were great and the solo musician was really quite talented. All in all, a great afternoon. Not to mention, I discovered that Neighbourhood does a delicious mulled wine, just the right amount of spice — a perfect winter warmer on a rainy afternoon!

Love the décor!!! Hide in the library for some fun or just sit outside and watch the people. Very friendly staff. It does make you feel like you are at a friend’s house and chilling. Great spot.

The Mac’s Brewbars are spunked up pubs really; they sell their range of beers and cider’s but in an upmarket environment. I’ve been to the one in Britomart and in Kingsland… in terms of décor I think I like the Kingsland one better, and also it doesn’t get as busy(if you want to be able to hear what people are saying); if you go during a week day(not Friday) then it should get too stuffed with people. The one in Britomart is decked out in upside down lampshades, old books and leather booths, pretty cute. I can’t really recommend any of the beers as I tend to gravitate towards cider… Mac’s cider is not bad(a little on the sweet side) but I’ll definitely drink it!

Im going to have to mention that Brew Bar is a fantastic live music venue. Many a night I have enjoyed sitting in the cosy bar lounge area with friends listening to some of Auckland’s very talented acoustic musicians, or equally awesome DJ’s. Quite a large seating area and can fit a definite crowd should there be a reason. For example, the Rugby World Cup match of Fiji Versus Samoa I was there at the bar and I am pretty sure about half of Auckland was as well. The bar staff were exceptionally efficient and professional, quick and friendly service at such a peak business time. I have only ever had drinks and nibbles at the bar, and love the large outdoor seating space to hang out with a large group of mates. This is the Kingsland Beer Garden of choice, and the Macs beer goes down so sweetly

When this place first opened a few years back it was immediately super-cool. Part of the Macs Brew Bar stable, the designers have again done a sterling job on the now-familiar upside down retro lamp and chair combo. I don’t know where they find their cool stuff but I wish I did. We had one of the nippers in tow on our last visit on a Saturday afternoon but truth be told, like most bars funnily enough, it’s not really for the kids. The bloke had a beer and I had a cocktail because it sounded delicious and involved mint(Nuevo Colada — most excellent and I’ll have another thanks very much). On other occasions I’ve been here in big groups and I think that’s where the Neighbourhood comes into its own. It is loud and raucous and sadly(or not, depending on your POV) something of a pick-up joint as the night rolls on. There is a DJ, even on Saturday afternoon but the sound selection on this latest visit seemed a bit random with no real mood or theme. I guess for me the Neighbourhood sums up the best and worst elements of Auckland bars. Looks good, slick service, nice products but really just a bit too cool for its own self. The patrons range greatly in age and urban tribal affiliation but be prepared to have every pair of eyes size you up as you walk in through the front courtyard. Why people? Are your companions that boring? I’m not really into the see and be-seen scene but I do like the feel of this place in summertime — it is literally cool which is of course a good thing. I’m just not that keen on the other patrons.

This is my absolute favourite place to meet friends! I feel safe knowing that I will always have a good time here, therefore I have no problem suggesting it as a meeting place. I just love the outdoor area, you can get a reasonably large group into their booths, which are comfortable and shaped in a ‘u’ so nobody gets left out. When I order a drink anywhere, I am usually un-adventurous and order a house white wine, Neighbourhood’s is ‘The Ned’ which is such a nice wine! I think it’s great when a bar has a nice house wine, not something super cheap. Mind you if you are into exotic drinks, they have a full bar and will definitely be able to cater to your needs. I have always had great service when I have been here and I love its interior design. The library room is great if you want an intimate setting! And the main bar is great if you are after a casual night out with friends. I love Neighbourhood Brew Bar!

This is definitely one of those go to places. You know you’re friends will love it, you know you will gave a good time. There is plenty of space in general its a decent sized establishment, plenty of outside area to enjoy and plenty of seating for when you heels get too much. There always seems to be a good crowd too. The staff are really friendly also. It is a nice mix between a pub and a cocktail bar sort off. A relaxed casual vibe but still classy.

Neighbourhood has the coolest bathroom design I’ve ever seen. Probably not a good starter for a review on a bar and restaurant, but hey — the walls of the disabled toilet are covered in cassette tapes, floor to ceiling. Neighbourhood is open day and night, and I much prefer to go there for a wet lunch during work hours or to meet friends in a relaxed setting. If you’re more into the nightlife side of the business, Neighbourhood cranks out on weekends and fills up. Food-wise, I recommend picking at the tapas menu — calamari, olives, pizza bread and more.
