Small, clean, easy choice for a quick dinner. There were quite a few tempting things on the menu, I chose the Spicy Thai Cashew with chicken. Served in a noodle box with lots of vegetables and rice, it was very good but not really spicy. The prawn dumplings someone else ordered as a side looked amazing… next time!

I go here all the time on movie night with my girlfriend. I have pretty much tried the whole menu. I love the Pad Thai and that’s what I had on this particular night. She likes the Thai chicken salad. I think the boxes are a good size for the price, service is quick, premise is very clean and I’ll be back often.

So disappointed! After reading reviews, I was expecting something half decent with lots of flavours, and instead sat in front of a paper container with the worst spicy Thai squid salad ever eaten. No flavour whatsoever, no spices, old fried cold squid(?) can’t even be sure because of mushy texture, and very bland raw veggies with a bit of soya sauce… Also ordered pad Thai which was as boring and mushy. Sorry otto woo, you’re not worth it. Moving on.

This used to be my lunch spot for years when I was working in the area. Today I thought is the time to review it. I could safely say that I have tried everything on the menu, but if I am to pick favourites, I would say their satay chicken, chicken cashew and laksa are my favourites. A quick tip, their little satay is meant to be smaller and cheaper than the regular one but it honestly isn’t. The difference is very minor your stomach won’t notice it. Every now and then I got tempted to try their starters but I was never a big fan. Their takoyaki, however is good if you like them crispy. What I love about otto woo is how it’s a food genre on its own. A great option for asian fusion food. It is fresh, delicious and satisfying without making you want to roll over and sleep immediately or suffer through an hours long heartburn. They have lots of gluten free options too which I think is great(they have them listed next to the wall menu). If in doubt ask the staff, they are really sweet. Check out otto woo nuffield if you would like a good meal on the go. Their mission bay branch and ponsonby branches are more lively if you would like to sit down and eat.

Really awesome place to grab an asian take-away, mostly because they taste really fresh and are packed with veggies that have only been flash cooked so they still have some crunch, it feels and tastes nutritious rather than a grease filled take-away. I always get their sweet rice balls as a starter they are so good! A little hard to describe but they come with a delicious dipping sauce and really shouldn’t be missed. Their pad-thai is a bit of a winner, but my most favourite dish has to be their Galanga Beef. It’s a soup with rice noodles in it(which are gluten free) and thinly sliced beef and tofu. I just love asian soups because they are quite hard to re-create at home as they contain so many fresh flavours. This dish is only $ 13.50 so their prices are fab, if you are ordering for a family of four I reckon you would only need to get three main dishes and a few of their starters… plenty of food! They offer a loyalty card here too I can’t quite remember how many meals you need to buy but it’s around 10 and then you get a free one, love free stuff!

The vegetarian gyoza are really really good. Vegetarian gyoza is always pretty good, but Otto Woo’s is right up there with the best. I’m not a big meat eater, so I like to see that there are plenty of main options for vegetarians, but at Otto Woo Newmarket, that assurance just wasn’t there. When this happens I normally move on to fish or prawns, and that’s what Otto Woo came through with. The two prawn dishes on offer for mains were Pad Thai and prawn tempura. I wasn’t too fussed with either option, but Pad Thai is always so disappointing for me that I opted for the prawn tempura. It was a great option — the vegetables were steamy and fresh, and the egg noodles were snaffled up pretty quickly. I would have loved the option of something less fried, but in the end, the prawn tempura pieces were really really good; no complaints.

There’s a reason this place is award winning. It’s probably the best noodle bar in the city. In this branch in particular, on the lovely Nuffield Street in Newmarket, the staff are always really friendly and knowledgeable about the food, offering helpful recommendations and warm greetings. It’s only a really small place, so it can be annoying trying to get a table during busy periods but their handy takeaway boxes are perfect for taking into the park on a sunny afternoon. I’m obsessed with Laksa and the one here is really good, just the right amount of coconut and full of fresh, seasonal vegetables. It’s $ 14.50, so about average for Asian food in the city, but totally worth it. Their entrees are cheap, around $ 6.50 so if you don’t want anything too heavy, a couple of these make a great lunchtime treat.
