Sumo Salad

Took an hour to recieve our meal. Thank god I wasnt that hungry otherwise I would have been hangry.
Decent prices for a café I guess. Tasted alright as well.
But you guys are way understaffed… there were dirty dishes everywhere.
Also the indian chick there needs to dress a bit more conservly. her boobs were hanging out everywhere hard for people to concentrate when trying to order there food…

I’m a pretty red-​blooded bloke when it comes to food, so salad bars aren’t usually my first choice for a meal out. However, as the missus has recently gotten on a healthy food buzz I’ve had to start playing along to this healthy food thing. This has meant frequent visits to Sumo Salad in Taka for lunch over the last summer. While I lament the less frequent visits to the nearby Nando’s, I confess that I actually frickin love Sumo! The salads are very zesty and yum, and they do really good wraps and rolls and stuff. I usually get this chicken schnitzel roll thing with a smoothie, and it goes down smooth everytime.
So, if you like me are a red-​blooded foodie bloke stuck with a girl that cares about nutrition, you could do a lot worse than Sumo for lunch!

My favourite place to go for lunch in Taka. I always find the huge selection of salads and sandwiches a bit of a nightmare to find my way around. Luckily they have deals where you can select up to three different salads for a large plate. This is usually what I do because I can never choose just one! I mix it up every time I go but there’s guaranteed to be some kind of pasta or couscous on my plate.
Just last week we stopped in here for a drink. We all ordered the chocolate frappes, which were extremely satisfying. There was a sign outside that read something about a gluten free, fat free frappé. I do wonder if that’s the one we were drinking or if they get specially made. I’d be extremely impressed if what I was slurping was so healthy. My nephew ordered a chocolate chip cookie. It was nice and big and the perfect mix of crispy and soft inside. I think I ate more of it than he did… it went down so well with my frappé!

Fresh is best and Sumo Salad at Takapuna understands this concept. Having first tried Sumo Salad at their airport branch while on the way through there one evening, I was suitably impressed and keen to track them down again in the city for some more leafy goodness. Luckily just in time I discovered their Takapuna branch and have been happy ever since.
They have taken on the old tried and tested DIY food approach, akin to Subway etc. The salads here are fresh and made to order. If you can’t really be bothered having to decide on the minutiae of salad fillings and dressings (yes there are people this lazy, sometimes it hurts to think) there are specialized menu items all ready to go, you just choose your meal of choice and they will make it for you, pronto!
A favourite of mine is the spicy Thai beef salad which is so fresh and crunchy, you can feel all that good stuff doing its work! I usually amend mine a little however and add more spices as they do tend to go with the more generic flavour combo for the tastes of the mainstream population.
