Kayaking Puerto Rico

Went on a bio bay kayaking trip with them this past weekend. Had an awesome time and the staff was very friendly and informative. Even though the bio bay was only at a 20%, we were still able to see the bioluminescence with the help of the use of a tarp to block out the light from the moon.

This was a great company to kayak with to see the bioluminescence. We came into San Juan by cruise ship and didn’t have cell access for a while but the office kept in touch via email and kept us up to date about the visibility level being low this time of year. We went on 2÷2÷16. They also kept us updated about the status of our transportation (it’s a 1.5 hr drive).They offered to cancel and reimburse if we preferred. Though we are glad we didn’t!
Despite the luminescence only being around 40% (per the guides) we saw sparks in the water and it was still exciting! The guides provided a tarp which enhanced our viewing as well. In my opinion, the act of night kayaking across the lake and through the mangroves was worth the trip itself! We are not professional kayakers but had no trouble with the activity at all. It was exciting to take the earlier trip and see half in the daylight and the return half in the pitch black! Shout out to Gabby who was taking pics and generally being awesome! The rest of the guides were super nice, knowledgeable, and extraordinarily patient with some of the less inclined guests.

Great service and did an awesome job contacting me beforehand… text and email. The bioluminescence was only about 20% as normal so they offered me free cancellation or a discount. It was an awesome time even with the low light. Would definitely do it

Defines customer service! Seems the bioluminescence was only at 20% the night we were going. They called, texted, and emailed us the day before to let us know and offered us the op to cancel or go at a discounted rate. Our 4 guides kept the eclectic group safe and moving along and we had a wonderful time on the water.

My boyfriend and I did the Mini Boat Adventure on our last full day in Puerto Rico. I called the morning of and was really thankful that they could get us in. From check in to the guilds the staff was extremely friendly and knowledgeable. We loved the snorkeling and private islands. Driving the boat was a fun experience too! I’d recommend this to anyone who’s looking for a little bit more adventure!

Our family of 6 were originally scheduled for the mini boat tour but ended up with only 4 on that day due to choppy water conditions. However, the company was very accommodating and our family had a great time. The guides were very fun and engaging with the whole family. They took pictures for us so that we didn’t have to any of it ourselves. The island was beautiful and included a nature tour of the island, which provided spectacular views and hundreds of butterflies. We highly recommend them!

5+ stars as my experiences with this company were amazing for the Aqauafari Culebra tour. We flew to Culebra on our own for the day and our concierge gave us the name of this company to do a snorkeling tour. When we arrived there were some translation issues when we asked for directions to KPR at the at the airport. The car rental guy called them and the arrived immediately thinking we had already booked an excursion and arrived early. Anyway, the fact that they sent someone to pick up from the airport which is less than .5 miles away was pretty impressive. Many companies would have given directions ect, but the them coming to get us made an impression on me that they truly value their customers and based on that I hoped they had availability for the tour. We were in luck, and every employee we met was amazing.
The young women who helped us book our tour gave us some great tips and hints for exploring the island while we waited for our excursion to begin. She was extremely helpful and patient and we both really appreciated her expertise and tips. The tour leaders themselves were also very patient with all of us including a few members who were not good swimmers and terrified. THey helped make the experience wonderful. We went snorkeling first to see the turtles and then later kayaked further out to see some beautiful reefs. In between we had snacks. We only participated in the snorkeling and kayaking and did not use them for transportation as we had our own jeep and flight so we did not take the ferry. Overall, we had a great day and thanks to Kayaking Puerto Rico, this was definitely one of the highlights of our vacation. I will be sure to look at some of KPR’s other excursions as my first stop next time we return to the island and I highly recommend the Aquafari CUlebra

Awesome time if you can handle the random novice kayaker hitting your kayak because they can not grasp the concept of paddling! My hats off to these folks patients to deal with folks kayaking in the dark! Worth every penny!!! Probably the best thing I ever did! Wow!!! They also gave us some tips on finding a beautiful isolated beach!

We did the snorkeling at Culebra and got to see the sea turtles and tons of indescribable fish. We did spend a lot of time waiting for the ferry that seemed unnecessary; after snorkeling for example, we had free time on the awesome beach there, but it was cut short so we could wait 30 mins for our van and then another hour-​plus for the ferry.
We also did the kayak tour of the bioilluminecent bay. We did the one that met at 6pm, which was cool, because in the daylight you got to see the mangrove forest and its wildlife (like tree dwelling iguanas) AND the bioilluminecent bay.

Used Kayaking Puerto Rico for our tour of the Bio Bay. We went on the 8:30 tour. Try to book in advance as the tours tend to fill up.
The guides were excellent, kept everyone safe, shared their knowledge of the bay and provided «VIP» assistance for the members of our group that were having difficulty kayaking.
The bio bay was beautiful and definitely a cant miss part of any trip to Puerto Rico.

On a side note, if you are staying at El Conquistador, the launch area is an easy 5 – 10 minute walk from the Palomino Island boat landing, save the cab fare and try the local food served at the restaurants & stands in Las Croabas park.

We did the mini boat tour with KPR and it was by and far the highlight of my trip to Puerto Rico! The snorkeling opportunities were perfectly placed and we saw huge schools of fish, stingrays, etc. the island we stopped on was beautiful (if a bit sharp to walk on because of the coral) and offered another great chance to snorkel. If you’re a first timer in PR and not able to make it to a snorkeling spot on your own, this tour is the way to go. We’d also never ridden mini-​boats on our own, so that was an adventure in and of itself!
This was such a novel idea! We appreciated that the guides took the pics for us so we didn’t have to worry about getting cameras on board. They were also very informative and patient, especially with first-​time snorkelers and boaters. Cannot recommend these guys enough. This is a PR must-​do!

Definitely a highlight of our trip! We were staying in San Juan, but had heard so many good reviews about this trip that we rented a car and a hotel room out in Fajardo just to participate (granted they do provide $ 20/​each way transportation from San Juan but we thought we’d take the adventure).
The tour guides are not only extremely knowledgeable, but fun and really get to know their guests. We had heard this could be difficult/​tiring, but it’s actually quite easy. If you and your rowing partner have the hang of it — stick to the front by the guide. You get to learn more on the way and it’s easier to navigate when you’re away from everyone running into you.
The bay itself is really beautiful and quiet. The guides give you a nice lesson in the middle and then you have time to paddle around and experience it on your own. The company provides bug spray beforehand, takes pictures throughout the trip and gives you snacks at the end. Make sure you’re ready to get wet.
Overall — highly recommend this company if you’re going to do the Fajardo Bio Bay. We had a blast!

First things first: if you’re looking for reviews of Bio Bay Fajardo, you should probably look at that Unilocal entry specifically. I thought the bay itself was a bit underwhelming, but the company itself (this one) was as good as any.
Anyway, Kayaking Puerto Rico did an excellent job of guiding us on our bioluminescent bay adventure. They were friendly, professional, funny, informative (if you want a history lesson), and relatively on-​schedule. That said, the entire trip was cut a little short because they allowed people to show up a whole fifteen minutes late (I was angry as hell), and the girl checking people in was a little rude. Still, we did have a great time. If you read my review for the bio bay itself, though, there IS a way you can avoid paying anything at all (of course, you don’t get to kayak). But if you like kayaking, this is a great company to do it with.
One little note: I wish they’d wash the vests a little more often. Mine smelled really, really bad. I could feel that smell chasing me all the way back to our hotel room.

Amazing biobay tour!
Kayak can be really tiring, but everything is worthy when you hit the biobay and see all the amazing thing! My friends and I have difficulty to kayak. We kept bumped into the trees or couldn’t make the straight line. The instructor (Captain John) was nice enough to make us like a chu-​chu train, so we didn’t get lost in the tour! Gracias Captain John!!!

I did the biobay kayaking tour with Kayaking Puerto Rico, and had a great time. Cost was about $ 50 per person. There’s the option of an early evening tour, and a later one that you book ahead of time.
We had a pretty big group (30-​ish people); everyone got along really well. There were a few kids in our group too, so this is definitely an event that families can do together. Our tour guides did a great job of explaining the area where we were kayaking, some background on the biobay, the wildlife, etc. You meet up in a little courtyard grass area right next to a pier. The guides spend some time discussing safety, distributing life jackets, kayaks, talking about what will happen during the tour, put on bug spray, etc. and then you are off! You go through the ocean pier first, then through the mangroves, and then you emerge into the bio bay. You «see» the luminescence by creating disturbances in the water, i.e. with your hand, the paddles, etc. It really is beautiful. =) Kayaking Puerto Rico does give you some time to kayak on your own in the biobay which I liked. The way back is just the opposite of the way you came.
I did the early evening tour and really enjoyed seeing the sunset. On our way to the biobay, the sun was just setting but you could still see everything. By the time we got to the biobay, it was dark and we could see the luminescence; the way back was also dark and you can’t really make out the trees or anything at that point. So, I would recommend the earlier tour in order to see the scenery first before it gets too dark outside.
When you get back to shore, they have some snacks for the group, or you can stop by one of the numerous food stands which have delicious pork chops, chicken kebabs, tostones, etc. This was one of the highlights of my trip, I would highly recommend it!

I have to admit being a little nervous about this tour as I had never set foot in a kayak before and wasn’t sure I had the arm strength for a two-​hour tour. However, it was well worth the risk. The tour takes you across the harbor and into a canal that eventually leads you to Laguna Grande, one of three bioluminescent bays in PR. After sunset, you’ll start to see bioluminescent microbes light the water whenever your oar or hand touches the water — a truly beautiful experience. Our guides were easygoing and knowledgable, and overall it was a great experience.
The only reason I am giving this tour four stars instead of five is the constant flirting I had to endure from two of the tour guides toward my kayaking partner, which made it difficult to move about the lagoon without being chased down by an overeager dude wanting to throw water on our pants and «make you sparkle». I don’t think we got five minutes to ourselves the entire time we were in the lagoon.
Be aware: the kayaks are two-​man, so if you come alone or with an odd-​numbered group you will be paired up with a stranger. If you cannot kayak you will be put in a boat with a guide. Also, give yourself plenty of time to find parking, as the drop-​off point is a very busy area with many companies competing for space. Also, in Puerto Rico it is perfectly acceptable to park on a yellow curb!

These guys are great! The tour was big but the guides took the time to take care of each guest while making sure the tour kept a comfortable pace. The guides took the time to educate us on the ecosystems not just the bio bay, also they brought their own personalities which made the tour not just exciting but fun.
We did the tour during a new moon in late january. The water glowed with every movement. It was beautiful but also kayaking through the canal to get to the bay was exciting because it’s almost in complete darkness. It’s an experience on its own right.
Felix was our lead guide and he was fantastic, but the whole group was amazing. Not only will I go back but I’m going back before I leave this trip!

We took the kayaking and snorkeling tour.
Reservations — I booked my reservation through a call. Best to make your bookings in advance as they have only two trips per day. The credit card is on hold for the reservation and was charged only post the trip. Cancellation can be done upto 48 hours in advance.
Registration — We took the 9.00 p.m. tour and got to the peer by 8.00 a.m. After the registration process and some pre training we were all set for the ride. I suggest taking the picture package as the guide takes some really amazing shots capturing you in the surrounding.
The Tour —
Just for the thrill of steering the boat yourself in the high seas, this place deserves a five star. Its quite an experience to get the boat hit the waves. We anchored for the snorkeling leg of the tour — Unfortunately the place was quite sandy and we hardly saw any sealife. I wished they stopped at a better location to encounter the sea life.
We had some refreshments and took off to stop at an exotic island beach. It had white sand — formed only by corals and spent close to 30 mins before heading back.
Guides — The guides are really for ndly and patient in explaining the topography and the reefs. Juan was amazing.
I loved the fact that these guys called for a suggestion and for some reason they gave me 15% discount. The tour was definitely worth the price and the discount came as an icing.
