Hotel-Garni Alexander

Und weiter gehts mit meiner Züricher Hoteltour — bis jetzt habe ich bei jedem Zürich Besuch in einem anderen Hotel übernachtet und auch diesmal lag die Erfahrung irgendwo zwischen 3 und 4 Sternen. Das Alexander punktet schon mal mit großartiger Lage, viel zentraler kann man nicht wohnen in Zürich und da es in der Fußgängerzone liegt ist auch fast kein Verkehrslärm zu hören. Ich hatte ein Einzelzimmer, das von der Größe her okay war, jedoch leider nur ein schmales Einzelbett hatte, was für mich auch der Hauptkritikpunkt war. Ansonsten passt nämlich alles, sogar diverse Steckdosen für nicht Schweizer sind vorhanden. Das Frühstücksbuffet ist sehr basic, aber auch hier habe ich in Zürich in der Preiskategorie noch nichts anderes erlebt. Das Internet ist top, funktioniert einwandfrei und man kann unbegrenzt Geräte verwenden.
Fazit: Außer dem Bett mein bisheriger Favorit in Zürich.

THE LITTLE HOTEL THAT COULD… from the fresh apples and bottled water in the rooms to Nespresso café and croissants offered «on the go» at the main entrance for busy tourist and businessmen who do not have time for their traditional breakfasts. The rooms are not «roomy» but very clean. It also has a mini fridge. This newly renovated hotel is located in the perfect spot to reach trams, the shopping district, the lake and the Hauptbahnhof (HB) aka main train station. Tram 4 is 20 feet away and only takes 2 mins to reach the HB that can take you to the ZRH airport in about 10 – 15 mins. Very convenient, friendly and the multi-​lingual staff is very pleasant. Be sure to purchase tram/​train ticket to the airport at the Reception desk. If you are loaded with luggage, they can also arrange for direct transport to the airport from the hotel (CHF 40) but you need to reserve space in advance. (At least one hour or more.) Bottomline: They try harder to provide service. That counts for a lot.

Tiny place, but very clean, with a helpful staff and just enough amenities. It’s in a great location, easily accessible from the main train station and trams, and surrounded by shops and restaurants — a couple places that look like strip clubs too, but they’re discreet. The rooms are small and minimalist but include a TV, mini fridge and blackout shades along with my favorite staple of European hotels: the heated towel rack.
Shower is a bit small, and there are only a couple hangers, but free wifi and free breakfast make up for it. I am reserving the final star due to thin walls and a slight over-​pricing, but for the most part a great spot.

Bin beim durchs Dörfli flanieren rein und hab nachgefragt: W-​LAN ist im Hotel Alexander dabei, kostet nicht extra. In der Dépendence aber schon. Na dann umso besser :-)

Am Schriftstil des Firmenschilds kann man schon sehen, wann das Hotel Alexander eingerichtet wurde — es ist schon ein paar Jahrzehnte her. Seitdem wurde es offensichtlich gut gepflegt, so dass es sauber und ordentlich wirkt, aber eben stellenweise auch recht «retro».
Die Lage im Niederdorf bietet sehr gute Anbindung an öffentliche Verkehrsmittel und ultra-​kurze Wege für Nachtschwärmer. Das hat natürlich auch eine entsprechende Geräuschkulisse zur Folge, empfindliche Seelen sollten sich also vielleicht besser eine etwas abgelegenere Unterkunft suchen.
Mein Nichtraucher-​Zimmer war praktisch und gemütlich. Zwei (einzeln stehende) Betten, Schreibtisch, Garderobe, Schrank, Minibar, Fernseher, Telefon und Platz für ein paar Schritte vor und zurück. Das Bad mit erstaunlich geräumiger Dusche wirkt durch dunkelblaue Wand– und Bodenfliesen kleiner als nötig und ziemlich finster.
Ein Kriterium für die Auswahl dieses Hotels war die Verfügbarkeit von kostenfreiem WLAN auf allen Zimmern, was problemlos funktioniert hat. Pro Tag 15 Stunden (Netto) sollten mehr als ausreichen, man kommt schliesslich nicht wegen des WLANs im Hotel nach Zürich
Das Frühstücksbuffet sollte jedem etwas bieten, es gibt Brot, Brötchen, Wurst, Käse, süße Brotaufstriche, Müsli, Milch, Joghurt, frisches Obst, Saft, Wasser, Kaffee und Tee. Eier werden auf Bestellung gekocht oder gebraten.
Auch an der Rezeption hat alles reibungslos geklappt. Spitzenhotels (mit Spitzenpreisen) findet man eher auf der anderen Seite der Limmat, das Hotel Alexander ist aber sicher eine dem Preis angemessene Wahl.
