I discovered that it really wasn’t as easy as I thought it was going to be to find a bag of samosas on the Ladypool Road. Who’d have thought? Fortunately, Roti Mahal came up trumps in the end however — although I only just got my hands on the final few as someone else had been in just before me and bought practically the entire tray. This I took as a good sign. The guy behind the counter informed me that his samosas were ‘famous around these parts’. Again, I took this to be a good sign. As well as the signs, the samosas themselves were pretty good too. They didn’t change my life, but that’s a little much to expect from a triangle of pastry with some chopped vegetables inside. The spices were delicious; with a lovely initial warmth of cumin seed and chilli. The pastry was a bit soggy for my liking, I like my pastry a little crunchier. But they were tasty, and filled a hole. They seem to do a lot of good deals at this place, and it does seem popular with the good people of Balsall Heath, which speaks for itself. Suffice to say, should I find myself wandering around Ladypool Road again, I’m pretty sure I’d head here for another samosa pit-stop.
