Meet the Business Owner
Gresham B.
Business Owner
Gresham officially opened his tailoring outfit and store in
2000. Playing with stereotypes of ‘Britishness’ such as floral
designs and witty linings, Blake brings them into the realm of
fashion with playful touches of detail. Often this will be interpreted
in the detail of suit linings by making them floral in design and
brightly patterned or by adding other embellishments, such as a
gold or silver button on the sleeves of a jacket that defines the
personality of his tailoring.
Despite the typical brand embellishments found in Blake’s ready to wear collection, he will dispense with some of the edgier details if the client wants a more understated option. «Tailoring is a personal business,» he says. «You have to psychologically weigh up the customer and listen to them, rather than tell them what they want. We don’t instill a house style.»
While Gresham Blake, Brighton very much remains ‘home’ and
head-quarters, a store in London’s Shoreditch s due to open at the end of 2011.
