I secretly went to Shogun Ramen. I wanted to secretly take revenge against Scott for secretly going without me. I’m on to him now. He still doesn’t know that I went… hopefully he won’t read this review! I’d been planning this secret trip to Shogun for some time. I knew exactly what I wanted to have, Chicken Katsu Curry with a side of edamame beans. Once I saw the menu, I thought I’d push the boat out and order some chicken gyoza too! I was pleasantly surprised. The bowl of edamame was huge. enough for two! IT also came with a small bowl of miso soup. This was a meal fit for a Queen! I definitely ordered way too much, but I powered on through and ate as much as I could, and washed it down with a bottle of Aloe Vera juice. YUM. I feel somewhat smug and satisfied as I write this :)

Sometimes I go places and I can’t tell my girlfriend. I can’t tell her for two reasons. The first is that she will have to go and this will cost me more money. The second is that I am not allowed to go anywhere that she hasn’t been yet. It’s just a rule. So I have to keep it a secret. I can’t ever keep it a secret. This is because whenever I go somewhere good, I always want to go back there. And whenever I want to go somewhere I always drop subtle«we should try that place out» hints. My girlfriend is attune to these subtleties. Like a cat that can hear the rustle of it’s Dreamies. She gets excited, and then we have to go. Then I have to spend more money. I went to Shogun last week. I had a chicken teriyaki lunch, which comes with rice and edamame beans. It was very tasty. I am desperate to go back and stuff my face with katsu. Problem is, it’s a little on the expensive side. Probably 10% more than most other local Japanese places. So don’t go with your girlfriend(or boyfriend). Keep it a secret for as long as possible.

My husband and I were searching for an early dinner to warm us up and to our luck we stumbled upon Shogun Ramen in the South Lanes. The restaurant is small but they do have seating downstairs. Service was friendly and prompt. My husband ordered the curry udon and I had the special ramen(can’t remember the name!) with spicy chicken. We both agreed that our dishes had much flavour and they definitely warmed us up! Prices are reasonable — about £9 per meal. Portions were good as well. Unfortunately they don’t deliver at the moment as they’re looking for a driver but they do offer takeaway as well. Will definitely come back!

Shogun Ramen literally just opened up around the corner and I must say I had high hopes. As soon as the sign went up I could practically hear my tummy rumble, so when I popped in this evening for a take-away, I was very excited about what this place would hold. I was greeted at the door by a friendly and helpful man. Can I take-away? Yes. Can I pay by card? Yes. So far, so good. Now, first thing to note is that this place is literally tiny. There are probably seats for about 8 people, if I recall correctly and these are all in rows, so please don’t come here with a group of 20 hoping to all sit round a table together. That’s not what this place is about. Several people were sitting by themselves eating, and this seemed like a place where you’d feel comfortable doing that. I ordered and sat on one of the comfy benches, taking in the smells and the relaxing ambience. My food came realtively quick, all tucked up safely with no leaks(which had been a concern going in). I got home, unwrapped and dug in. It was great! Really fresh, hearty and full of taste. I enjoyed it so much, I even called my sister to tell her all about it! Very nice Ramen indeed. The only thing I’d say about this place is that the prices are not bad but it’s also not cheap. My dish came to around £8−9 which, though not bad, is more than other places around. But as I always say, you pay for quality and that’s delivered here. The menu is also a little limited but, again, the food on it seems well received, so it’s a case of doing less well, rather than lots poorly. If you haven’t tried it — go along! I’m eager to hear other people’s thoughts on the place!
