The Brighton Source

The Brighton Source is a great free publication that you will find in any self respecting pub or café (unless they have run out).
Primarily, it is essential coffee table material if you want to stay in touch with a lot of the club and music events taking place in the city during a month. They also have a number of features on local bands and Brightonian artists etc. It’s great for Brighton newbies, who can quickly get accustomed to whats in and out in the city.
They also have monthly reviews of eateries throughout the city and there area mass of listings for a lot of businesses also. It certainly maintains the spirit of Brighton within it’s pages and the editorial team keep it fresh and interesting. Hurrah!

Brighton, as well as being awash with cafes, shops, restaurants, take-​aways, and liberal sentiment, has lots of free magazines to read. From some of the more ragged, poorly put together pieces to some of the more professionally run, the Source is definitely at the upper end of the spectrum, offering professional interviews, articles and info with plenty of advertising to keep it free and available. One of the best places for local gossip about the music scene, the Source is a must read for local artists and musicians, although their theatre section is somewhat lacking.
It’s amazing, when you think about it, that the Source is free to pick up and read. There is so much in here, from articles about general local info to incisive interviews with some of the hottest acts of the day, as well as listings of everything you might need in the Brighton music scene. There are quite a lot of ads, but that’s never really bothered me: the fact that I can read some great interviews for nothing is really, really great.
The main reason the Source is still free, I reckon is for the listings: thanks to those, everyone in Brighton who wants to knows when nearly everything is on, which I reckon means most of the live places chip into to make sure all of their target audience are on the ball. The problems only arise when you look outside the music scene: there is so much happening in Brighton that the Source doesn’t cover, especially the theatre scene. This is directly noticeable during the Festival and the Festival Fringe: little if anything is written about or covered.
Nonetheless, for a free mag, this is quite the well-​written and researched tome for the Brighton music lover. Pick it up when next you see it, it won’t cost you a penny to know all about what’s going on.

As already mentioned by Alice, the Source is a magazine that can be found by the front door of most bars, clubs, restaurants and cafes across the Brighton area.
It is actually a really good magazine, especially given that it’s free. The main benefit is that it lets you know everything good that is coming up over the next month or so. You can find out the best club nights, restaurants and gigs.
What generally is good is that they actually impart some useful opinion about these events, rather than just listing them in one never ending list.

Source is one of the free monthly magazine that acts as a guide to Brighton, they’ll be scattered around various pubs and shops. Letting you know what bands are playing, what club nights are on, music release and much more. You may even find yourself in Source if you happened to find yourself looking particularly cool one day and they snap you or their street style section. And any bands sitting on demos, Source will happily receive. It’s written by people living and loving the city. Previews, reviews, interviews and you. Plus it’s free!
