The Amber Lounge is a cocktail bar and restaurant in the heart of Chester. The bar has a good range of beer and spirits, and the staff are efficient and friendly. The only time I have visited was on a very busy Saturday night, standing room only, of course, but still a good place to have a drink. Entry was carefully controlled by the bouncers though, only small groups or couples allowed. There was also a small dance floor to the rear, which was packed with people enjoying the music. On future visits, I will have to give their meals a go, judging by the positive previous reviews!

Very nice Sunday lunch here in August 09. Virtually empty but nice and cool and a pleasant waitress. Had the sea bass — a generous helping, nice fish, well-cooked and very nice mustard mash and crisp fresh broad beans to go with it. Wife had smoked haddock salad which she enjoyed and daughter had fish and chips which was nicely presented with a tower of big fresh chips. Drinks are indeed expensive — nearly a fiver for two fruit juices for daughter! Place doesn’t draw attention to itself which perhaps why nice and quiet on a Sunday lunchtime But glad we came here. Obviously have a decent chef. Will come again.

My partner and I went to the Amber Lounge on a Sunday afternoon for lunch. The venue is a combined cocktail bar and restaurant, serving different functions at different times of day: during the afternoon, the place has restauranty feel about it, with plenty of tables but space for those who just want a drink; during the evening I imagine it takes on a sophisticated air serving cocktails to Chester’s glamourous drinkers. To start, we shared the baked camembert(£8). This was served whole, in its case, with a large stack of thick toasted crusty bread, two chutneys and a few dressed salad leaves. Slathered on the bread with chutney, this was delicious, very filling, and more than enough for two. For my main course, I had the chicken and button mushroom open lattice pie(£9.95). Mine wasn’t served as described — the filling was served on the plate with a puff pastry lid on top — but nonetheless, the pie was very tasty with a generous filling of mushrooms and chicken. The pie was served with delicious mustard mash and sliced carrots. I would have preferred the pie to have been as described, as I’m not a fan of puff pastry, but by no means was I disappointed with this dish. My partner had the trio of local sausage(£8.50), which was served with mash and onion gravy. The sausages were obviously very good quality and there was a large helping of mash and gravy to accompany them. Next time I’m in Chester, I’ll definitely consider another meal at the Amber Lounge. It comes greatly recommended.

we had a very warm welcome, it was well organised,(seeing as there was not a table available), the manageress knew exactly who was next in line for a table, the bar staff were very attentive, the waiting staff were very good, we like the added attention when you were shown to your table and the waiting staff took your glasses for you. The food was excellent, did not have to wait long once it was ordered. Would recommend this restaurant to anyone.

Amber Lounge is probably one of my favourite bars in Chester. It’s fairly small and well tucked away — but inside the décor has a real ‘Olde Worlde’ feel about it, whilst at the same time managing to be fairly modern. The atmosphere is usually good, particularly on weekends when the place can get fairly busy. Drinks are quite expensive and they only serve double measures of spirits so a vodka-coke will set you back at least £5. But the quality is good and they have a great wine list plus some excellent cocktails. Saturday nights tend to be the busiest nights — with the peak being around 9pm — after 10pm I find people tend to start wandering off to nightclubs and it gets much quieter, so in many ways this could be the ideal time to visit.

Located on the historic rows in Chester city centre, Amber Lounge is not too well advertised and might not be spotted by someone who did not know the city centre to well. This would be a shame as Amber Lounge is a good stop on a night out for a large vodka and coke, a decent wine menu and fairly good music dj. I am not sure if they do food here but think if they do it would probably be OK. There is not a big charge at the door at weekends which unfortunately does bring a lesser classed clientele but generally you’re sure to have a good time here! Service is good, staff are friendly and décor is modern and sultry. There always seem to be bouncers on the door which can be a good thing and a bad thing!

Really nice bar on the rows but small and no dance floor. Great for drinks before going onto Rosies/Cruise. Some seats at the back and one busy bar. But nice glamorous crowd.

This is small bar with a dance floor. Its a busy place, usually busting at the seemes on the weekends. The drinks are expensive and all spirits are served in doubles as standard measures. Good for a few drinks before moving on!

Trendy little place where all the rich and famous(hollyoaks) go. Nice ambience and good music. Prices are ok considering and little dancefloor for if you feel in the mood!
