A good example of independent coffee shops. I’m sure the coffee would’ve tasted nice, but I tend to only drink tea! They had a nice selection of sandwiches laid out on the counter, and cakes too inside their cabinet. I tried their almond slice, and it was quite nice, but their brownie not so good, as it was too cakey and dry! Overall a nice place to have a rest and kick back for a hot beverage!

Excellent coffee and nice sandwiches in a relaxed area. Friendly and fast service. I am not sure what some of the other reviewers experienced, but as self proclaimed coffee aficionados we rated this coffee as best to date in the UK. We had a double shot macchiato and a latte. Excellent price, coffee and hot pannini combo for just over £6 each.

The Barista’s was a bit of a disappointment! We made a special case to go to Chester to check this place out. There were some real issues. My flat white was burnt which is such a shame as they were using, by the looks of it, Has Bean and Climpson beans. Calling themselves The Barista’s and making some errors in coffee making is such a shame. The wifi didn’t work well either! I think there’s much potential to bring this place up to par, and maybe I was just on a one off bad experience. Oh well :(.

On the ‘list’(one of those lists we refer to for good coffee places around the world where Unilocalers have yet to recommend) so we pop in on the way back from a couple of days break in Wales. In fact, we pretty much went via Chester because we knew there was a place to break up the journey. Wish we hadn’t made that big round trip to be honest. Lovely place, big and spacious — it goes a long way at the back but oh so terrible coffee. They use one of the local brands we have at home too. Wish I had the hot chocolate instead!

First visit today of many I believe :-) Warm welcome, friendly service, coffee quality excellent and as Dandy1 said previously, the Almondy tart is a wonder. We will be back!

I would definitely recommend this coffee shop to any person stopping by in Chester. I go into the shop weekly and always have their finest hot chocolate with marshmallows and cream, they make the drink with extra care right in front of me and the service is excellent! The staff are really easy to get along with and are always up for a chat with the customers.

We do not recommend this café. We were on holiday from Spain in Chester over the Christmas period we had been customers of Barista’s for 3 mornings on the 4th morning Wednesday 28th December my husband paid for 2 coffees and crumpets in total the bill was £5.45. My husband gave the cashier £10.50 so that he would receive a £5 note in the change rather than coins. The change given was 5p. Of course my husband told the cashier he had given him a £10.00 note in payment the cashier denied this and told my husband that he had not. My husband had definitely not made a mistake, because before going into Barista’s he had gone to an ATM machine and withdrawn £50 which was made up of 3 £10.00 notes and a £20.00 note and did not have any other cash on him prior to that. The cashier refused to check the till and told my husband he would either have to come back after 5pm or telephone. I considered the answer to be unsatisfactory and I went over to him and requested that he check the till. He told me that he was under no obligation to do so that it was a waste of his time and not his mistake. I told him I did not think he had a good attitude towards his customers especially as we had been good customers and given them our custom for the past three days. I asked to speak to his superior. At this point he refused to give his me his name and said he was the owner/manager. I went back to the table and stood up and informed the other customers sitting in Baristas what had happened. I was speaking the truth. Andy the owner/manager(an assistant had had given my husband his name) came over to our table with a refund of £5.45 and asked us to leave for inappropriate behaviour. As I stood up to leave I accidently knocked the table with a carrier bag I was carrying, a little coffee spilt into the saucer and a few drops onto the table. I was then told again by by Andy this was inappropriate behaviour. After 5pm my husband telephoned to be told that he could come and collect £3.60 that all the till was over by. As anyone in business will know a till should not be over or under which only goes to show the till was incorrect. Although it was a great inconvenience my husband did go to collect the cash on principle even though we were still £1.40 out of pocket. I sincerely hope this does not happen to anyone else; unfortunately this is the kind of incident that gives the England a bad name for the tourists. It is a great shame that an owner manager has this dreadful attitude towards his customers and little regard for good customer relations.
