I feel this pub is much maligned on the basis of past reputation. I have lunch there at least once a week. I find the staff, polite and helpful, the food cooked well and served in decent portions. Its good to have four vegetables with Sunday roast, all cooked from fresh it seems and not overdone.
Admittedly, I have never been in during the evenings when, if others are to be believed, it undergoes a significant transformation!
Certainly the state of the décor could be improved, but as for the ‘sticky carpets’ mentioned elsewhere I have never found this, probably because I keep my shoes on!

Used to be a good pub up to a couple of years ago, but now! Some staff are rude, take it or leave it attitude, well, I now prefer to leave it, plenty of pubs out there that actually want peoples trade, I used this pub for about 15yrs regularly never once caused any trouble, but never again will I set foot in there following a person’s attitude behind the bar.

I’ve only been there once, which having lived in Didcot all of my life is something of an achievement. The one time I did go I was truly scared, not just of the other punters, but also that I may stick to the carpet permanently! I certainly wouldn’t want to go back any later than 8pm and find it very distasteful to walk past at 11am and find people drunk outside already — usually with their kids in tow. Maybe I’m just a snob!

Visiting Mr Datcats mates we popped in here for a few drinks and I was truly scared as I watched 2 fights kick off within minutes of each other. Mind you it was a Saturday night not that excuses anything, but it’s kinda traditional here to have a fight on a Saturday night from what I can gather. The bouncer waded in after a while, but to be frank after seeing that we left very very quickly. I like my face the way it is. Not a terribly friendly pub and the drinks are overpriced anyway, so go anywhere else apart from here.

i know this place has a bit of a reputation for a friday or saturday night but having eaten here quite a few lunchtimes i would say the food is quite nice and above all offers extremely good value so dont knock it until you have given it a go
