Auld Hole In The Wall

Damn! I’m honestly surprised at the type of ratings this place has gathered, and how few. This place gets a gold star from me!
We had two lovely beers (standard tap and bottled fare) and decided to have a meal along with it. That’s where we were absolutely sold: they presented us with the BEST mac & cheese I think I’ve just about ever had. It came with a salad (also delicious) and garlic bread, and we had chips as well. For pub food, this place seriously takes the cake. Couple that with good service and clean, standard facilities (and a cozy gas fireplace) and you’ve got a lovely pub on your hands. :) wish it wasn’t so far away… I’d go back for the MAC alone, easy!

On a Friday night they have a live DJ and this place turns into a time warp. Honestly, I thought that I was back in the 90’s. All that was missing was the glow sticks and dodgy fashion. The DJ went off on a 90’s tangent without any encouragement but we soon jumped on the bandwagon and requested lots off old, cheesy classics which he was happy to oblige with — it was amazing!!!
Although the place was full of 18 year olds (if that) and they had blank looks on their faces when the songs came on, they still knew how to have a good time. If you are a new face in town you’ll go down a treat and the locals will go out of their way to make you feel welcome and help you have a good night.
This place is a lot of fun and the drink is cheap compared to Edinburgh prices. At about £2.50 per drink, this place is a bit of a bargain.

The Auld Hole in the Wall was the last pub I visited of the many in Linlithgow. This is another pub that sells itself as being open to tourists but didn’t feel quite that way when I was in.
I had a mixed experience really. When I went in everyone looked pretty unfriendly and the bar staff didn’t seem eager to serve. But once I had been there for a while they seemed to perk up a bit. I still felt a bit uncomfortable however. The beer I had was a bit of a let down unfortunately. However the pub food they serve was surprisingly a touch above the rest. My only complaint was that it took a while to arrive. But once it did it I was a little more impressed by it than the usual pub affair.
Supposedly the pub is under new management after a spate of awful owners who really let the place go to ruin. Maybe it’ still recovering from those dark days. I would certainly like to revisit and have a more consistent experience.

Despite being the only Celtic bar in the area, the Auld Hole In The Wa remains a good, down-​to-​earth boozer for non-​footballing fans to visit as well.
The place contrasts nicely with opposite neighbour, the Four Marys, by not playing on Linlithgow’s tourism boasts. There is no obvious Mary Queen of Scots paraphernalia, nor do you pay over the odds for what you buy. Instead you’re likely to find only local people in here enjoying and the game, particularly when Celtic are playing.
There is also a pool table.

This place has been through a management change in the last year in has improved but is still a dive. The food here has always had a good reputation but i have never tried it. Apart form that is not the place you want to go for a drink. The prices are not as cheap as you would expect and I have had numerous bad pints from here, also the mrs has had to return vodkas as they tasted of sambuca On the upside it is never that busy, only a few neds to push through to get to the bar.
