Oven Door Bakery

Oven Door Bakery has an amazing loctation in Alsop Arcade just off university square and therefore draws in a large student crowd. I have visited this establishment on numerous occasions and unfortunately I have found it to be more than a little dissapointing. The prices may be cheap with assorted burgers priced at a pound and giant hot rolls are one pounds fifty but the quality reflects the low cost and this is not a good thing. Often the food is not anywhere near hot enough and the meat can be tough and overly chewy which means that although you save on the price you may not enjoy what you have purchased. The great prices and location means that this bakery will always draw in the money saving student types but if your looking for quality grub to set you up for a day of study I would have to advise against a visit to The Oven Door Bakery.

These aren’t the best sandwiches you’ll ever taste, nor are they the best burgers or sausage rolls (certainly not the worst!) but the ladies that work here are hilarious and it was only £1 a roll last time I looked, which is cheaper than Tesco! I’d deffo choose a sandwich over a burger as the look of them sizzling away on the grill isn’t very appealing to me.
Don’t let that put you off though, it’s all freshly prepared and they have a great selection of fillings and if you’re just wanting a quick snack then this is the place, but if you want a decent sarnie you gotta get there early or the best ones will have gone! Om nom nom.

I used to often go to Oven Door Bakery nearly every day when I was at University. It was very conveniently located to my department so an easy and cheap option for a good lunch.
The first thing that struck me on my first ever visit to the snack takeaway, was the size of their burgers and how cheap they were. For just £1, you could buy a double cheeseburger with a combination of salad and condiments of your choice. These days the price may have increased slightly but you are definitely going to be full after you have eaten about a ½ pounder burger! The burger meat is perhaps not the highest of quality but if you’re not health conscious, I guess it doesn’t matter even though how terrible it sounds! Not to fear, they do have other foods on offer like sandwiches you can opt for.
