Brompton Bar & Grill

For a foodie, I loved this place! We stumbled upon this restaurant on the way back from Harrod’s, fresh from a red-​eye flight from LA and not as nicely dressed as we should have been. I must admit that I was glad that they accomodated us especially without reservations that night. My friends ordered a steak to share and I had the grouse. We LOVED their sticky toffee pudding! I am on a mission to find sticky toffee pudding in Los Angeles now.

Had a great steak and chips for a reasonable price. Very nice wine list – we certainly enjoyed our bottle or three. Absolutely nothing bad to say about the meal or service; there just was no «wow» factor to the experience. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a nice dinner in the area!

A place were you pay a little more but get so much more. Very friendly service yet very professional. The food is fantastic, we ate there twice last week and enjoyed a jazz group down stairs afterward.

I had dinner here as part of a corporate-​sponsored event during the London 2012 Olympic Games. The venue itself is quite nice with a charming array of lithographs, drawings, and watercolors on the wall. It was a very tight squeeze for our party during the cocktails portion of the evening, so if someone out there is considering this place for that kind of stand-​up mixer, I would seriously reconsider. Matters were generally much more agreeable once we were seated. The wine and cocktails list had some great offerings and overall the food was pretty decent, but nothing to write home about. The service was very prompt and friendly. The vibe was upbeat, all the way. I wasn’t bowled over by the experience, but I’d probably go back. If I lived in the neighborhood, this might be a place where I’d become a regular customer.

well rounded cocktail/​wine list and food menu. loved the vegetable chips. we both thoroughly enjoyed our seafood mains and our gracious host thought highly of his steak. service was attentive without being overbearing. they allowed us to carry on with our dinner conversation, catching up with an old friend.
we actually didn’t mind being seated in the corner table as our well-​behaved beagle joined us and it was slightly quieter than being in the center of the busy restaurant.

I was very confused by Brompton Bar & Grill — I really wanted to like it, I did. For the most part, I did like it, but as I said, just really confused!
My friend booked a table through
. I don’t know if it made any difference in the service. I will come back to the Toptable offer…
On arrival (dead on 12, when my friend had booked the table), we were shown to our table — right at the back of the restaurant, in the corner. It was a good table as it afforded some privacy, but struck me as slightly odd since there was no-​one else in the restaurant (it opened at 12). What bamboozled me further was that although there was no-​one else in the restaurant, we were seated at a table for 4 people where one of the chairs was in front of the «office». For the next 5 – 10 minutes, I was continually standing up and moving my chair around, whilst the manager and chef went in and out of the office looking for things and changing their clothes. Either we were too early for lunch, or they were late in getting sorted out for the day. Luckily, the chair bashing only went on for 10 minutes or so.
The food was nice — we had the Toptable offer, so we selected from the set menu. I had the seafood bisque, which was nice but a little on the salty side. I also had a dessert, which was sticky toffee pudding and to die for! We had another mishap when my husband asked how many scoops of ice cream were served if he ordered ice cream, so that he could decide how many flavours he could choose. There was a bit of confusion and mis-​communication — my husband ordered a scoop of chocolate and a scoop of vanilla. When it turned up, he had been served two bowls of ice cream — one chocolate and one vanilla. While I agree you can never have too much ice cream, you can if you’re being asked to pay for it!!!
Finally, the bill really confused us (and our waitress!). As we had the Toptable offer, we were expecting a bill of £20 per person for a 2 course set-​menu (and £25 for my husband who had 3 courses and then another £5 for his extra ice cream), plus drinks on top. The first bill presented, we had all been charged for a dessert whether we’d eaten one or not and whether or not we had had a starter! So we queried with the waitress who looked really bemused. She discussed with her manager and then brought back the new bill, which now came to less than £80 including drinks (for 4 people, 3 of whom had a 2 course set-​menu and 1 person who had 3 courses and an extra dessert). We did try to explain again that the bill couldn’t be right, and promptly gave up when we got a blank look. We made up the difference in the tip.
Overall, it was a nice restaurant, marred by a couple of weird and random occurrences!

This place is local to my grandmother and a few weeks ago we popped round for dinner. I was a little worried that the place might be flooded with cameras following the Made in Chelsea lot (they always seem to be coming for expensive dinner dates here) — but thankfully there were no ‘reality stars’ in sight.
The service was very friendly, they remembered my grandmother and we given given a nice table. The food was very good, with specials and some more unusual offerings than you’d normally get at similar eateries. My grandmother had plaice and I had the steak, both of which were delicious. They have a nice cocktail menu and a decent wine selection so I think most people would find something they’d like.
My only gripe would be the proximity of the tables to eachother, but this isn’t a problem unique to bb&g– and it seems lots of places like this are now cramming in as many covers as possible. I felt sorry for the couple next to us having dinner-​a-​deux as we discussed the latest, very unromantic, family dramas.
All in all it’s a nice place, with great food. It wasn’t eye wateringly expensive (like sone of it’s neighbors), and it has a little downstairs bar which is quite cosy too.

What a fabulous find and just up the street from all the shops on Brompton Road and Harrods. The Brompton Bar and Grill does it right be it for lunch or dinner.
First of all the space is lovely. There is a zinc topped bar on the main floor that serves up tasty cocktails from a specialty cocktail list and even has nice bottles of wine starting at 10 pounds. Unheard of in this neighborhood!
There are two tables in the front windows and a banquette that runs the length of the room. The art is an interesting choice but the real winner (besides the food) is the jazz and 60’s tunes that played the entire time I was there. I love listening to good music while I eat and Brompton Bar and Grill did not disappoint.
Downstairs is another bar and seating area and on certain nights (check out their website) there is live jazz which you can enjoy along with your meal.
My hotel concierge suggested this place as I was looking for somewhere to have an «American brunch» before going to a matinée at the theater.
As I pushed open the door– I was warmly greeted by the owner who welcomed me to the space. I had my choice of seats and then proceeded to review the menu. There were plenty of starter courses (including oysters, salads, etc) and then some brunch and lunch options. I ordered the Eggs Benedict and a tomato salad that came with at least 4 kinds of tomatoes and freshly shaved Parmesan cheese. Both were delicious. The Eggs Benedict was perfection with hollandaise sauce that tasted freshly made and eggs poached perfectly.
I asked to see the dinner menu as well. I will definitely come back here the next time I am in town as the dinner menu looked great. Steaks, lamb, seafood stew, pasta all sounded fabulous! I also thought the prices were reasonable given the quantity of food that you get.
My favorite indulgence of the day? An «ice cream pot» of vanilla and honeycomb ice cream that was just the perfect end to an already perfect meal.
Service was impeccable. Between the owner and the two servers and a bartender who can make a great Bloody Mary– this was probably the best service I’ve had in a long while.
Brompton Bar and Grill– you’ve got a big fan here! I hope your run is as successful as the last restaurant that was here for 28 years– the Brasserie Quentin.
Until I can get back to London– I will just have to hope that something akin to what you offer opens up in Chicago! Ahh. . a girl can dream!
