Cafe Crema

The cakes at Café Crema are lovely but the staff are uninterested and cold. It’s not really a comfortable environment to eat in.

This café is in a highly trafficked University area right next to Goldsmiths college. The windows are covered with fliers and posters for local shows and events. I was walking by this establishment on my way back to the university after lunch and the posters in the windows caught my eye so I went in side to see what else was hung on their bulletin board. As I was standing in front of the bulletin board I was told very nastily how rude it was to read the bulletin board since I had not bought anything and that the bulletin board was for «customers» only. As far as I understood it cafés where as much about community as coffee. The community at Café Crema leaves much to be desired! Your money is better spent on instant coffee!!! There is a much better coffee shop in the Goldsmiths Student Union building called, Natura Café.

Not impressed at all slow and dodgy service. We were left hanging for almost fifteen minutes before someone came to take our order. Apart from that, there was not enough variety in the menu and it felt dull and empty inside.

I’m sorry, I’m just not a fan.
Café Crema fits in with every hip goldsmiths students idea of an alternative to the norm, but I don’t really see anything special or different about this place.
I wasn’t impressed by my first visit here and didn’t return again all through my student years, but after soo many positive reviews on Unilocal and being back in the area I thought I’d check it out again.
The inside is cute and quirky. It has local produce like brockley honey on sale and pictures that the kids at the local primary school drew up on the walls. It’s clear there’s a lot going on here, book groups, drawing classes, stuff for the hipsters… The little garden out the back is part of the charm I suppose, free running chickens pecking about your feet is novel. I’m just not feeling it.
Inside plays generic johnny cash and dolly Parton songs, it’s pretty chilled and dark. The staff are a bit uninterested with life. There today was informed I have a bit of soy milk in my latte… Do I have a choice?
Still, I ordered a cheese mushroom and corvette toastie, hoping for at least a good sarnie. Alas no. Cheapest, thinnest bread. Tiny amount if filling. Taste of really marged up sandwich toasted. It’s just a bit pathetic for nearly 4 quid.
Places like this seem a refreshing change to the norm, but they’re just glorified greasey spoons that try too hard and cost to much. I’d rather go to the greasey spoon like goldsmiths café at least it has soul.
However, the coffee in the end was glorious. Just don’t think I’d bother again.

An unassuming hip-​ish café from the outside. And from the inside.
But if there’s a hint of sun, get out back.
They grow herbs and ducks (watch for a future Confit (joke, seriously) and other stuff.
The back garden is the back garden from several other places mashed into one, with tables popped into place willy nilly — sort of what you’d expect if this was your tutor’s place and they’d gone slightly mad.
The effect is just really pleasant. An urban oasis.

Café crema is great the food and coffee are cheap, vegetarian and succulent. The garden and chickens are pretty fit too. The only downside is, I do not agree with their policy of not being too welcoming and nice to their customers. Especially in that kind of place: if your staff is happy and cheerful, I think customers will not assume it is a commercial strategy, but rather a proof of sheer good character. I’m just saying.

I love meat, so when I heard that this place only did vegetarian food I was a bit skeptical. But it looked so inviting that I had to step inside. I’m so glad I did! They do great coffee for really cheap, and their food is delicious. I’ve had their pizza and their soup. The staff are super nice and let you stay for as long as you like. There’s no wifi, but I like to come here when I need to do a lot of reading.

The soup here is LEGIT. Seriously, eat some soup. Everything on the menu is pretty good vegetarian fare and and excellently priced. The ambiance is nice (when it’s not packed).
If only the coffee was better. The baristas are guilty of being… economical when it comes to making it (and letting espresso shots sit out on the machine for minutes before being used). Oh well, the food makes up for it, but you’re better off somewhere else for coffee.

I think this place could be a little more friendly and the menu changed on occasion. But I did like coming.

Super chilled out café located on the busy New Cross Roas (A2) right near Goldsmiths uni.
The layout is small and cosy helped by the red and black decorum. There is seating outside in the rear garden as well. Coffee is moderately priced and the quality reflects this, so does the food. Café Crema also runs film nights, vintage sales and music performances. This is great how it is, tatty, cheap and relaxed, the place will forever feel like a student haunt because of this, and this may put some people off.
The line of shop units that are housed inside a big old building which Café Crema and others reside in were undergoing fire safety regulation stuff not too long ago. This meant that most had to shut and were left empty for ages. Lately though, building work has begun and a few are in the process of being refurbished. This is great news as these shops are right in the middle of New Cross and could really be a strong factor in changing peoples opinion of the district.

This place would be nice if it was a little bigger and if the staff were more efficient. It has a nice aura about it and provides a nice escape from New Cross. The food is really nice and homemade, which is always a plus.

I imagine this will become one of our favorite meeting places for me and my fellow Goldsmithers in my MA program. We’ve been coming here after classes to unwind and procrastinate readings so far. Perfect size, cozy and creative atmosphere. Great spot for coffee and hot chocolate, and the warm food looks comforting. Hope it stays open…

Love it. Cosy café with funny hours obviously but really nice to just sit in and people watch from the windows. Good café to be a regular at. I had a double latte and other peoples food looked really nice but I didnt try it… yet.

Caffe Crema’s atmosphere is outstanding; the vegan food and service here is well above average. The chairs and furniture all look like they were found and gives it a cozy alternative feeling. The wall to the right of their oval front window offers a lot of flyers with what’s happening around New Cross. The colorful patio with tables and grass in the backyard provides ample room to linger around and read. A woman in her 40s was sunbathing on the patch of grass when I sat on the bench to read while two people were studying and a third group were chatting with drinks.

I love Café Crema, as a Goldsmiths student it has been my second home for the past couple of years, and I was enraged to learn that they may be shutting it down soon. Nein! This is because it is held by squatters, and the buliding belongs to the college. We all signed a huge petition to save the place, and it is working for now.
The vibe in here is so chilled out, and they do amazing hot chocolates and homemade flap jacks. For meals they are great aswell, with various veggie meals, my favourite being the tortillas, omlettes and stews. And you can’t go wrong with a soup and some crusty bread.
They always have stuff going on, piano jams, film nights, gigs, meetings. A very creative place! The back garden is a jumble and is great for summer as it feels very cut off from the main road that this café is on. A truly magnificent place, let’s hope we can save it!

Café Crema is so cozy you just want to hang out in there for hours. I went there because they had a small film festival and where showing some documentaries. We paid for our tickets and got a cup of delicious coffee and a brownie! how sweet. The place is like being in your friend’s living room, and the vibe is laid back. They have a back patio, which I’m guessing is buoyant with people during the summer. They serve vegetarian and vegan food as well. It’s a lovely place that apparently has been struggling to survive, because they want to close it down for safety reasons. They have been successful in their fight and I hope they don’t close it. If you go and you like it as much as I did, sign the petition list.

Café Crema is great, I love it, I go there often, but whoever wrote the above review has to be on another planet. Is this the same Café Crema? In New Cross? (with its well known waterfront???). I’ve never had the coffee (I am not a coffee drinker) but the food is excellent. And I love the music.

Really an excellent place to chill out and have a nice tasting coffee whilst taking in the waterside views. Newspapers are provided as well as the internet to catch your mail. Its a popular spot for meetings.
