DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel London – Islington

My stay at this hotel is a bit different than most people who stay here. I lived in Islington and was required to get a hotel after our flat was packed up into its US-​bound sea container whilst my flight to the US did not depart until the following day. So, I’m familiar with Islington and specifically picked this hotel because I had several errands to run in order to tie up loose ends before repatriating.
First impressions upon arriving at the hotel were awful. Since I’m moving to a different country, I had four bags, all of which were very heavy. I struggled to get them up the stairs, through the front doors and to reception. At one point, my duffle bag fell off my roller bag and after I picked it up, I looked forward towards reception and there were 10 people standing at the desk, none of whom were helping another guest. No one offered to assist me with my bags and it even took about 30 seconds for someone to acknowledge me after arriving at the desk.
Check-​in was fairly smooth. I was given a cookie (not a huge fan of their new recipe) and off I went to my first floor room. The hotel has double glazed windows and then a second set of windows, so it’s pretty sound proof but my room was not on Pentonville Rd. I would not want a room facing that road as it’s a main road and very busy, especially at peak times.
The room was OK. The bed was not the most comfortable bed and the linens weren’t the highest quality. The bathroom was dated and the carpet was leftover from this hotel’s former glory days as a Jury’s Inn.
The price for my room (queen bed) was £143 which is way too high but amazingly enough, it was £30 cheaper than the Premier Inn! You read that correctly! The Premier Inn in Islington was charging £177/​night! (To those not familiar with Premier Inn, it’s a low-​end budget hotel). Thankfully, I had a free
night which reduced my rate to ~£65. I believe a hotel room at this hotel should be no more than £100.
Finally, some helpful information to those not familiar with the area. There is a fantastic coffee shop called Saint Espresso a few feet from the hotel. The pub across the road, The Castle, has rude staff. There is a large grocery store (Sainsburys) a few minutes walk away and there are loads of restaurants, both sit down and fast casual near Angel station and also heading north on Upper Street. Pubs are everywhere. There is a Starbucks right around the corner and another one about a five minute walk away. There are so many eating options within a 7 – 10 minute walk, you should never eat or drink at this hotel!

Good location, bad curve appeal nice staffs at check in, room way too small for deluxe for Three adults not enough space for luggages.

Really nice people at the front desk, but they just need to be slightly more informed about the area. I arrived at midnight and they really couldn’t help me find food. As a NYer, we are used to getting anything we want at any hour of the night. Apparently not the case in London. But I was offered a delish warm cookie. Also, really couldn’t help me with any of the sight seeing tours. Thank God for Unilocal! Really helped me abroad. Reviews and directions for sure.
The room was clean and the wifi was free. The breakfast buffet was delicious as well as some of the offerings on the lunch and dinner menu. Bartenders very friendly. Overall, a good experience for this first timer in London.

Mixed reactions about this hotel and I think I might be generous with 3 stars. The big issue for me was the place was not very clean in reception, bar, restraunt and the staff were ver disorganised. The bar man could not get a simple vodka coke (pepsi) correct twice he gave me it without the vodka.
Staff miss the point thst it id all thier responsibility to keep the property clean, they walked by dirty tables or rubbish on the floor. Hoover plugged in on one side of reception with a cable stretching all the ways across it to the otherside during probably peak time between 11am and 1pm.
The rooms were a decent size but with current experience over priced by £30 per night. Location convenient for city access. I was given a room someone had smoked in and the manger at reception gave me two free bar drinks and a room change and this is why it gets 3 stars.
Could operate more efficiently if staff knew what to do and provided each other more support.

I’ve stayed in a few Jury’s Inn hotels over the years, and while they all look pretty much the same, they can vary in cleanliness and how helpful the staff are.
This one in particular is in a good vibrant location just around the corner from the Angel tube station. It’s nice and clean, and all of the staff seemed helpful and friendly.
The room was a good size, and everything was nice and clean, which is always nice to find if you’ve stayed in London hotels.

I was knackered!
Tube strike on the same day as my course. My feet were killing me.
However, I checked in and my day of stress started to disappear.
Warm welcome and professional check in
I requested high floor with a view and thats just what I got.
I could see St Paul and The Shard from my room
It was soooo windy my window although double glazed rattled all night, just glad I was too tired to notice. I could of swapped rooms but I knew I would sleep and I did. #UkStorms
Once in thr room I found a comfy bed and a spacious bathroom
The cleanliness was excellent.
I couldnt be bothered to go out so room service was the way forward, chicken wings and salad followed by spiced apple crumble and custard!
Yes! I ate the lot. # Delicious.
I had a long soak in the bath, brilliant size for all you 6 footers and a lovely power shower in the morning!
Breakfast was self service and tasty, good choice.
What I loved was the take away cups _​so I made myself a decaf coffee as I checked out and sipped it as I walked the 1.1 mile to UNICEF HQ.

Service is great (assistant manager Marlise will take care of you) and the breakfast offering has something for everyone and is very consistent. The rooms are clean, and the maids are the most cheerful I’ve ever seen. Islington is close to everything in London and it is a great spot to stay. Affordable, clean and safe. I will be back again.

This hotel has great reviews on trip advisor and it lives up to those. I still believe the breakfast is overpriced at £11 per person per day but it really is yummy. I stayed in a superior room which was at the end of a corridor on the top floor. It was lovely and spacious and had an amazing view of London. I could see: Saint Paul’s, the shard, the gherkin, the London eye, sandlers wells and the very to top of the House of Parliament. Would deffo stay here again but quick tip: join the loyalty club for the wifi and water and save a bit in paying extra for the room for that.

Have stayed at the Jurys here in london on numerous occasions.
The staff are all extremely helpful. Rooms are reasonably sized and are always kept imaculately clean with everything you need. Bring your own water as they charge £3−50 for the bottle left conveniently in the room.
The restaraunt is a bit pricey however, there are plenty of places to eat out near by in islington. Walking distance for Kings X and Angel tube.

Rooms have evidently been renovated – ours was absolutely spotless and very solid for a mid-​price hotel in London. Excellent location 5 minute walk from Angel tube (and Kings Cross, a longer walk). Islington has many terrific food options at various price levels, within walking distance. Fresh market for fruit two blocks behind hotel.
Room was fresh, clean, good linens, high quality flat screen TV, coffee service, VERY helpful staff.
Recommend if you are looking for a convenient, clean, comfortable hotel… at a reasonable price.

I’ve had two stays at the Jury’s, and you need to be honest about what it is. It’s a very solid, clean, well run budget hotel. They have a good conference facility, with great service, that’s I’ve booked and used twice. The staff is very helpful and very good at running events, in particular, keeping the breaks on track and ready and offering very good food for lunches.
The breakfast option is quite good for a budget hotel, and tasty food. It’s just about the same each day, so not much variety, but it’s good. Free wi-​fi in the lobby too. It’s centrally located by Angel Tube with lots in Islington nearby.
Per the other comments on here, the rooms are simple, clean and solid but this isn’t a plush facility. It also doesn’t bill itself as that. Room rates are between 99 and 120 pounds a night, and for as well located as it is to the city that’s a good value. You’re not using this hotel to have a relaxing spa experience — you’re using this hotel to be close to a location, get good service and a good value. It does that very well.

Okay first of all it’s a budget hotel so it serves it’s purpose therefore you can’t knock it for that. We stayed here for a day and a half just about and really it’s the kind of the place people wander in and out of. We were part of the early group so alas I can’t speak much for their meals except that they serve a great cold cereal, toast, and/​or fruits for those that must rise early to get a move on. Standard all round, so I can’t really say it was bad nor spectacularly good. It was a place to sleep and that they did well.

Last time my parents visited me in London they stayed here for three nights. As they left they told me that if I expect another visit I’ll have to find a better hotel!
I suppose this place is fine if you are on a tight budget and wanting somewhere to stay that’s fairly central. In the room I saw there was a double bed, en suite and a television so it covers all your basic needs. However, the hotel itself is pretty soulless and a bit grubby. The first time my mum tried to use the shower it flooded because the plug hole was blocked full of hair– yuck!
Although there was breakfast included as part of the stay my parents only bothered with it once because it wasn’t very good. What I saw of it looked like mass catering from your local greasy spoon– everything fried and everything unhealthy.
Next time they come down I think I’ll try and hunt out a little B&B with a bit more character. This place should be reserved for stag parties and business men.
