Cannot recommend these salons enough. I’ve been going to Edward James in both Clapham and Putney for more than two years, and have raved about it so much that more than a dozen of my colleagues and several clients now go there — and also love it. Despite the roster of celebs on Edward’s books(he was recently ranked in Tatler’s top 10 list of London stylists) he is really down to earth and always takes the time to get to know you. You can tell that he really just wants you to have an amazing experience; you escape into this warm, welcoming, beautifully decorated salon, put your phone on silent, have a glass of sparkling while you enjoy a complimentary head massage — or even a full massage in the Putney spa if you need it — and then kick back and read a book or a magazine while Ed gets to work. I was with my previous stylist for eight years(even loyally following him when he moved from Clapham to east London) but since being introduced by a friend to Edward James I have never been anywhere else. I know first-hand that short curly hair is really difficult to cut right, so when you find someone who can actually tame your unruly mop you never give them up! Two of my female colleagues with long curly/wavy hair have actually also just been in to try Ed’s unique British Blowdry treatment and now cannot stop strutting around the office flicking their unrecognisably sleek and shiny hair. Ed has surrounded himself with a friendly and talented team — Natalie, the general manager, recently cut my hair because Edward was booked solid and did a fantastic job.

After years of getting my hair cut at the amazing Hoxton Salon, my house move tempted me to find a new hair place. I love Aveda products, so this seemed like a good place to try. Plus, they have a nice referral programme where the new person gets £20 off their first cut and the referrer gets 20% off theirs, so happiness all around. I had my hair cut with Hayley and she did a nice job! Short head massage to begin was a plus, and I appreciate that the receptionist was patient with me when I had to call back at least twice to change my appointment.

I love this salon! I have had some terrible experiences so for me trusting someone new is a big thing Edward James was recommended by a friend who was raving about them and her hair looked fabulous, not to sound too cliched! Warm, friendly, luxurious an excellent service, won’t be going anywhere else EVER. I also took my daughter for her cut… It was brilliant, she was given a bright colourful Cape to wear, hot chocolate, biscuits, colouring pages… She is only 4 and half and is desperate to go back, actually asked Santa if she could have her hair done for Christmas hahaha!

Very disappointing experience. Knowing various Aveda salons from New York to Los Angeles, I made an appointment thinking that the stylist level of training would provide one with a high quality of hair cut. The salon is beautiful and the staff is very friendly. My problem starts with the poor quality of haircut I received. I consulted my stylist with photos and explained to her that I don’t like boring, soccer mum like haircuts and I am really looking for something funky and new. By the time we got to the hair drying part, I was almost tin tears. My hair was not funky, was not sexy but plain old boring. It did not look at all similar to the picture I showed her when I explained what I would like. My hair pretty much looked like Margaret Thatcher’s famous hairdo. The stylist realized this and explained she did not know why she used a certain brush and dried my hair such way. She really tried to solve the situation but it is not solvable with drying. The problem is beyond the brush, it is the cut itself. My hair looks so awful that I am actually thinking about getting my husband’s buzzer and shave my head bold because I am ashamed to go out to the streets with my new hairdo. I will never return but I do hope she will have a chance to receive some more current training that could enhance her skills.
