Been wanting to try this place for a long time due to all of these Unilocalers hyping it up. I went here around noon. What a great time to go they have a noon special. chips, some chicken and a pop(pepsi, etc) for 2 quid. Portion size was decent for the price. The chicken was the dry rub jerk chicken… this is my fav type of jerk chicken! I could so imagine going here after a night out drinking but maybe not a date. Hmm actually if the girl digs this place too… she’s a potential keeper in my eye haha.

I got take away one evening from this restaurant for dinner. The prices were slightly higher than expected, decent portion size, a good small-ish but varied menu, clean restaurant, and the flavour from the spices(note, the spices) were good. The service was below average, a bit mechanical, no real emotion. The reason for the 2 stars though is that most of our food was taken from fridges in large cling-filmed containers an microwaved. If this was a 2-piece fried chicken with fries for £3.00 at a greasy dirty-bird takeaway, I could overlook it. But for the price and what this restaurant wants to be, and can be, it’s inexcusable. I reckon this place would be an easy 4 – 5 rating and ram packed if they cooked fresh food to order, it has so much potential.

A delicious place to go when I need a rice and peas fix, which is getting to be more and more often these days. It’s done here as basic rubbed bbq chicken which you are then free to sauce to your taste from a giant sauce tube. My taste is set to ‘slathered’. The rice and peas was a little greasy, but beyond that was perfectly flavored and spicy. The portions are generous, even before I add a gallon of sauce. I definitely leave here rubbing my belly in a happy food coma. I’ve also tried that ackee and saltfish, which was tasty as well, but there is a lot more on the menu left to be discovered. I’ll have to update this review once I’ve had the curried goat and the Guinness punch. In the meantime, however, if you’re in the mood for rice and peas, this will certainly scratch the itch.

Got a phonecall, ‘hey you wanna go eat Jerk Chicken, rice and peas’. in my slightly inebriated state I said ‘yes, yes I do!’ . What. I don’t eat chicken. But I do eat ackee and saltfish now courtesy of this fine establishment. Okay, fine and establishment probably not two words that should be bandied about when discussing this place. It’s more of a kebab shop, fast food joint. It’s got all the class of a Chicken Cottage but with good food and reasonably friendly service. If you are looking for something greasy and good, go here. If you are looking for nugg nuggs, best to go elsewhere. Also they have plantain, which I could eat like a million of!

I want to rub my face in the sauce they serve here. I checked the label and it didn’t say«keep away from the eye area» so I think I’m good. Well actually the label didn’t say anything because there wasn’t one. It’s just a plastic bottle of spicy, sweet goodness. In fact they’re lucky it’s such a big bottle or I might just have walked out with it! If you want fast, tasty authentic Jamaican food, you can’t really go wrong with Jerk Chicken. I know, I know, I have only given them 3 stars but I did like it. Promise! My rice and peas were yummy, the meat was well seasoned but I don’t like leaving a place and smelling of their cooking oil. Their food, yes, their oil, NO! Had I been drunk this may have become a 5 star place, actually I will get drunk right now and head down there to try this out. Must rush off… there is a bottle of gin with my name on it. All in the name of Unilocal

I can’t begin to tell you how much joy this place brought me. Late on a Friday night the small perhaps 12 seater restaurant was stunningly clean. Jerk Chicken has one of the most in-depth Jamaican menu’s in London. The list of goodness almost brought me tears of happiness. I went for the whole hog with Jerk Chicken, peas and rice, gravy, plantain, festival, hardough bread, a can of coconut water and a Ting. The highest compliment I can give is that the peas and rice was as good as my mum’s. The coconut was balanced to perfection. The jerk had just enough kick to it to create a spreading warmth throughout my tastebuds, whilst the plantain and festival was simply lush. Whilst I ate, Jamaican voices swept out from behind the counter as the two ladies sang and bantered, occasionally slipping into island patois. From the moment I walked in till the second I left, I did nothing but smile. I miss Jamaica.

The Jerk chicken here is simply the best I have tasted in a long while. My friends grandmother makes a brilliant jerk chicken and I have not tasted any that compares to it, but here is really good and the best I have had so far from the streets. They are plenty of places in and around the Tottenham area that make it, but Jerk Chicken specialise and do a great job. Im working close to the Angel and it is easy to make my way down to meet a few friends, and before we head off to a bar, Jerk Chicken has been my stop off since discovering it. You are looking at spending close to £10 with a drink etc, but I dont often eat Jerk chicken, and i think it is well worth it. Definitely give it a try!

As I’ve said before and I’ll say again– I find that West Indian takeaways in London see to be a bit hit and miss. Either the the portions are too small, the food is overpriced or it’s lacking in flavour. So I was very surprised to discover that Jerk Chicken in the heart of Chapel Street market is actually quite good. The chicken was very good and as good as any of my favourite West Indian take outs in West London or Hackney. So maybe £6.50 is a bit more than I would usually pay but the food was really good so it was well worth it. Next time I’m in Islington I will definately go to Jerk Chicken again.

The jerk chicken from Jerk Chicken in Angel is an absolute taste sensation. The best time to go there is a summer afternoon when you can sit outside on a plastic chair and observe the market with some great chicken and a can of Ting. Its slightly more expensive than what I’m used to in my ends(Hackney blud) but the very fact you can get jerk chicken in upmarket Angel is a revelation in itself. Saying that, in terms of what you actually get(jerk chicken, rice and pea) £6.50 is reasonable enough. If you are mega hungry or have a family to feed they also do a whole jerk chicken for £14. Winner.
