Description

Specialties

I focus on yarns that do good.

Either for the environment — by being organically produced, recycled or made from alternative fibres from sustainable resources -, or by supporting fair trade and community empowerment projects.

I stock a wide variety of fibres, ranging from the traditional to the more experimental and alternative ones. The brands we work with are Fyberspates, Viking of Norway, The Mirasol Collection, Debbie Bliss, The Natural Dye Studio, Erika Knight, We are Knitters and many more.

In addition to yarn, patterns and tools for hand knitting and crocheting, I carry a small and exclusive selection of ethical fashion, hand made garments, through the production of which poor communities are empowered.

Knit with attitude also offers crafty workshops, including beginner levels to more advanced techniques. Our full schedule is published on our website.

History

Established in 2010.

My Knit with attitude venture started out as a yarn stall trading at Spitalfield Market. By the end of 2010, as both my range of products and my customer relationships grew in number, I moved into a a tiny shop on Northwold Rd in Stoke Newington. During the winter 2012 it was finally time to recognise my business as one of the ‘grown ups’ moving into much larger, brighter and the most important of all more welcoming premises on Stoke Newington High Street.

Meet the Business Owner

Maya B.

Business Owner

My Grandma is the one to blame for my enthusiasm concerning knitting.

When I was six years old she taught me how to knit, purl, and to cast on and off. This was the first introduction to a hobby that in periods through my childhood and adolescence has been all consuming. With time, knitting has gone from being a rewarding hobby to something that I feel strongly and passionately about.

Why? Because knitting as an activity encourages engagement and attitude.

To knit is a constructive, creative and concrete act that stimulates our consciousness and interest. For me knitting has become an expression for my attitudes and involvement in environmental and political issues, when simultaneously increasing my focus and self satisfaction through my work. All in all this represent the motivation that lies behind Knit with attitude.
