If this bar wasn’t in such close proximity to where I live, I’d give it 4 stars. The 4 stars would be for a decent atmosphere for a city bar, really nice décor, availability pretty much every time I want to host a party, nice offers for advance bookings, friendly staff and extremely convenient location. It would miss the 5th star due to only being open at weekends for private events. But actually, only being open at weekends loses it 3 stars, for altogether different reasons. You see, at least one Saturday a month, the place is transformed into some kind of gangsta rap LA night club from a film about drug dealers. The whole area gets filled with cars parking up as it seems nobody who likes R’n’B music takes public transport to get to Central London. The area then proceeds to get plastered by flyers for the next event taking place in some random other bar. If you happen to leave your car parked outside your house, you’ll have to clear at least 2A3 sized flyers from your windscreen as well as several other smaller ones. Most people clear them by picking them up and dropping them on the floor, so it’s like the whole area got stickerbombed. But before then, well before then, between 3 and 4am, sometimes as late(or early) as 5am, that’s when the real zombie apocalypse happens. I feel fairly safe in my secure ivory tower with a strong front door, but it’s almost guaranteed that there will be immense amounts of shouting, followed by a fight breaking out, several women screaming, and the police inevitably being called to break it up. Several complaints to the council later and the place is still no closer to having its licence revoked. And the problem is Revolution isn’t the only place that causes this. The nearby Abbey Bar and Mary Jane’s hold similar events. I’d actually prefer it if they were just open to the public. At least there’d be overall fewer hoodlums frequenting the area due to the influx of normal people.

Ok I seriously liked this place. Different and more ‘cool’ than its Leadenhall counterpart. It has exposed brick walls and lesser queue(or more bartenders?), it’s cleaner and the crowd is better. It’s also spacious and has comfy seats. And floor doesn’t stick. Music — dance, chart — something you can also sing(shout?) along to. Would recommend booking a table or an area — makes ordering a bottle of Shiraz(that’s what we did) that much easier. It’s not a cocktail place — they do cocktails indeed, but I would go here for a nice outing after work rather than sample their list of cocktails. They do standard cosmopolitan, daiquiri, long island ice tea… But it’s a party place, so goodness they have shots — delicious shots. Get a ‘stick’ — 6 different flavoured shots(chill one IS hot — as I saw for myself).

Much bigger than you’d expect inside no bad thing as you don’t feel cramped but it’s still intimate and dark enough to switch you off from day time humdrum to now it’s time to relax and even start smiling. The wide drinks range helps. If you’re daft enough, work from top to bottom through the menu of nicely presented and reasonably priced cocktails,(I bet you’ll forget where you are half way down). Very friendly staff and welcoming atmosphere they even bring free nibbles around on trays every now and again. Good location near handy tube stations and some famous London landmarks Tower Bridge, Tower of London and the Gherkin. Recommended.
