San Miguel

The décor is questionable… Kind of tacky and cold (although we were only one of a few groups in there at the time so maybe at a busier time it might be better). BUT, the food was so good I didn’t mind what the interior looked like if I’m honest.
We shared quite a few tapas dishes with our favourites being the lamb cutlets, ribs and the prawns. Excellent quality meat, especially the ribs. They have an allergens menu you can request, which was great and super convenient.
Service was great — very friendly and lovely. Would definitely consider coming back here the next time I’m in the mood for tapas!

I love this place for so many different reasons.
I’ve been here twice, the first time the waiter we had (owner I think?) was an ABSOLUTE HERO. So incredibly charming. The second time the lady who served us (possibly another owner) was also a treat.
The food is decent and not a bad price. The tapas is good, none of it was disappointing, though I wouldn’t really recommend the lamb chops… A bit small if you ask me. I would recommend the meatballs and the pork and chorizo stew though. They’re awesome.
The drink selection is good and the atmosphere is really nice. Lively yet comfortable. Also, though it looks a little big tacky, weirdly it really works… One of the reasons I love it here!!!
Definitely come here if you’re after a chilled out dinner and drinks!!!

A cosy little tapas restaurant in the heart of Greenwich.
This places oozes Spanish character even down to the waiters who would rather deal in menu numbers than Spanish names.
The food is good but the menu is limited compared to other tapas restaurants I have reviewed. Music and atmosphere but lacking in finesse.

Lovely little restaurant in Greenwich. We were seated immediately and got some cocktails wine olives and bread to start, nice and simple. Then we ordered a few small dishes that we took our time and nibbled at. The was a nice atmosphere and the staff were really friendly and nice. A few big groups (birthdays/party’s etc) but also a good place for a date! Good price to four the quality of food

Me and my partner had a meal here some days ago. The staff is the friendliest I have ever seen and provide a great service. As a concierge in a hotel I can really tell. The food (patatas bravas, mussels, cheese croquettes) were the best ever. The restaurant is large, the décor is nice and the overall ambience was pleasant. However I can’t rate it 5 star because of 2 huge flies flying around our table. It wasn’t very pleasant having a meal and watching them flying around.

The first time I accidentally passed by San Miguel´s window on a stroll in Greenwhich with my beau I thought the restaurant was going to be one of those Anglicized Spanish-​chain restaurants where food would taste like frozen leftovers and the décor would be tacky and outdated (aka La Tasca and so on). Then I read the menu at the front door and I realized I had hit the jackpot! The décor was in fact rather tasteless but the food was truly something else.
Being Spanish I am very particular when it comes to Spanish food in UK restaurants. No offence but to my view, it tends to fall into the tasteless side of the balance and the offer doesn’t usually reach much further than chorizo paella –which isn’t even a Spanish dish – , or prosciutto ham –which is in fact Italian.
San Miguel however, keeps true to its Spanish core and caters a selection of bites that could easily compare to the food you encounter on a restaurant in Seville, Barcelona or the Basque Country. Croquetas de jamón y queso, gambas al pil-​pìl, mejillones a la marinera… the offer is endless. I mean, you can even find octopus (pulpo a la gallega) on the menu!
I´ve heard the paella is marvelous too, so I´ll make sure I am not missing out on that one this weekend! And while at it, I will surely enjoy it with a good taste of Rioja… or two!

I’m not sure why I never wrote a review for San Miguel considering I’ve spent too many evenings in here.
Food — Go for the tapas, they’re winners compared to the mains. My fav is the Gambas Pil Pil
Drinks — Always on point and cheeeaaap! You will get buzzed in here.
Service — Always good with a smile.
Atmosphere — This is what stops short of 5 stars. This is an eating and drinking establishment & while the interior look isn’t so classy, it is cosy. However, it’s the kids! No, I don’t mean the staff behaving that way, I mean KIDS… in a bar… where I’m drinking! Was in last night with my best mate and this kid’s dad decided it was okay for him to climb the chair next to me at the bar and kick me a few times in the thigh. WTF?
Get them out of there and this would get a 5 star review from me.

This place is epic. I mean the tapas is tasty, comes pretty quickly and there is lots of choice — it’s not the best i’ve ever eaten but it does the job. The décor and service on the other hand are second to none! Everytime I’ve been here it’s like a fiesta! Definitely dismiss the nearby chain restaurants and head to San Miguel to check out the banterous staff and extremely interesting (read: strong) cocktails. Also if it’s your birthday the staff are more than happy to do a kind of mariachi band song for you, so theres always that.

This place was amazing, been to 4 Tapas places in London, this one by far the best !! Chorizo and the Sangria was sublime ! Ask for Oriol the waiter from Barcelona really cool guy has excellent recomendations !

Interesting décor but a fun and upbeat place with great food. Spain has a special place in our hearts because we just absolutely love sangria and tapas! We tried a few tapas and the paella… everything was delightful! Good service and reasonable pricing.

I only had a cocktail but this place seems totally great! So cool in fact I’m thinking of having my birthday meal here this summer! The piña colada was only £5.35 and I didn’t expect it to taste as good as it did, yummy! There were salsa dancers and a really cool vibe!

The atmosphere is really good. It transports you into the heart of Spain with many Spanish artifacts decorating the restaurant. Food quality is marvelous.

Partially because it is unashamably Spanish, being full of genuine Spanish articles that seemed such wonderful exotic holiday keepsakes for our parent’s sideboards in the 70’s; and partially because it was full of Spanish speakers — staff and guests. The menu was so extensive that had to get our iphones out and make a shortlist in order to knock some of the options off. Flaming Chorizo and spinach scramble were perfect. We had lunch there and ordered everything from the lunch menu. The food tasted fine but there was nothing special about it either. The red table wine was pretty good. Very friendly and fairly efficient service, odd décor. The main menu looked interesting, maybe some day we can try it for dinner.

This place seems to have received a star too many. The staffs were pleasant and the atmosphere was alright, apart from the fake vines outdated decorations. The tapas however was really basic and looks like something that you would cook for your kids when you don’t really have time.
The grilled king prawns were more like four tiny pieces of cooked shrimps in olive oil and some chili. The spanish sausage in brandy was just one ugly lump over a huge plate of burning liquor. Deep fried mushrooms were soggy tasteless mushrooms in cheap bread crumbs and what is suppose to be a red current salsa was more like canned purée. The presentation did not help make the food taste any better, no effort was put into it.

I really enjoyed drinks/tapa’s at San Miguel. Wonderful place to sit down and share small plates with friends — and the servers are very attentive. I would definitely suggest it!

A nice cosy restaurant in a buzzing Southeast London area. I have always walked past this restaurant but thought on Sunday as I did my usual ignorance, «let me give this one a go». As I walked in the aroma took me. This was my experience of a Spanish tapas restaurant and I really did not know what to expect. However, I was very surprised at how filling and tasty the food actually was. I ordered three things from the tapas menu — Spanish omelette, spinach, mushroom and garlic mash mix and roasted potatoes in mayonnaise. Absolutely fabulous! The portions looked small but I was very satisfied. I could not get enough and wanted more even though I couldn’t fit in.
They have a full bar with some interesting sounding cocktails. The prices are excellent and the staff are very welcoming. This is one of my favs and I’m glad I live so close because I will be a regular. Definitely one place never to just ignore and walk past!

I feel in love with Spanish food whilst backpacking through Europe and in particular with Tapas.
For those of you that share a similar passion for Tapas and want to be able to sink your teeth into mouth-​watering bites, then I recommend you drop everything and get yourself into San Miguel Restaurant as it gets a huge two thumbs up from me.

Obwohl Greewich einen Ruf als Touristen-​Falle hat kann ich das San Miguel wirklich empfehlen.
Ein Kollege aus Lonon hat mich das erste mal dorthin eingeladen und konnte mich wirklich begeistern. Hervorragende Tapas, guter Service, leckere Weine zu für Londoner Verhältnisse sehr angemessene Preise.

Fantastic range of tapas that suits all tastes.
We ate here with a died in the wool carnivore who devoured the flaming chirozo and a vegan who certainly didn’t go hungry.
You can also have more traditional meals or hearty paella.
Reasonable prices but not the cheapest — exactly as you would expect in the tourist trap that is Greenwich.
Book a table at the weekend if you want to eat between 6 — 8pm but you can get a walk in after 8ish and mid week you generally are pretty safe to just pop in.
Bill includes a 10% service charge — the waiting staff don’t get a share and they work really hard so if you want them to have a tip get it taken off the bill and give it to them directly.
