Lovely airy café with a huge menu, nice sunny garden space, and good wifi. £1.60 for a coffee isn’t too bad for London, too!

One of my favorite places for breakfast. Every now and then I like eating alone and this little café is perfect. The tables are comfortable and private and I can go through my mail while enjoying a nice cup of coffee.

Great little arty café on Tower Bridge Road just South of Bermondsey Square. They do a lovely hot chocolate made with Green & Blacks for just £2. Take away or eat-in. They also have a great array of little snacks: Fruit, chocolate, cereal bars etc as well as pastries and sandwiches and tortillas etc. Some of the lunch food they do is a little oily for my taste, but still freshly made and with quality ingredients. It’s quite a modern, bright, funky interior and they regularly change the artwork on display, usually showcasing local up and coming artists. Perfect for a breakfast coffee and snackor equally good for a light lunch with a friend.

I’ve had tea and espresso here, and sampled the pastries — all were fabulous, though my experience with the place is limited to these things. Sitting outside makes you feel like you’re in impending danger of being trampled by foot traffic, but inside is where all the character is, anyway. Despite being relatively cozy, it’s bright and airy enough(especially in summertime) that you won’t mind staying inside. I like the out-of-the-way location and the laid-back vibe. There’s not necessarily a lot of that in a huge, busy city, so cherish it where you find it, I guess. I also agree that the art seems a bit like an afterthought, but gives Sobo an interesting edge, nonetheless. And — hip as the place ends up feeling — the charming and helpful baristas diffuse any hint of pretense that the place might give off otherwise. Edgy yet utterly unpretentious. Tough to pull off, but one of my favorite combinations. This is definitely my favorite coffee shop in London.

Sobo advertises itself as art and coffee. How could I not give it a try. It is rarely very busy in here partly due its location surrounded by the bargain and hardware shops of Bermondsey. There is however, a really nice and relaxing atmosphere, the kind of place to come with your laptop to do some work or to flick through the many books and magazines that they have for you to read. The coffee met my high expectations, and the food, irresistible. From pastries, croissant and cakes to salads, soup and paninis, the difficulty is in the decision making. As for the art, I felt that it took a bit of a back seat. The focus is more on the café, it does however, offer a really nice backdrop giving Sobo more of an edgy and modern character. I love it.
