Love this place! Fresh tasty food at great prices. I’m hooked on their lunch special — limited menu items for only 5.50£! If you like spicy, make sure to tell them Thai spicy, because they are a bit too timid with the spice levels.

Freundliche Bedienung!

Best Thai spot in Soho area of London! The family is so friendly, warm and food was wonderful. I’ll stop by when I’m in London next year!

Food and service are great here, ambiance is not the best, but not entirely shabby either. They could do with a sprucing, but still totally worth it to come. We had reservations for a Saturday evening table for 3 at 7 pm, which was on the early side. At the time, there were a couple of tables not yet filled, so a reservation may not be necessary if you eat early. But shortly thereafter, the restaurant was packed and a queue formed outside. It’s a very small restaurant, so waiting time could be long potentially. The table we were first seated at was a bit cramped, so we requested to move. They accomodated our request without any hesitation. We opted for a corner seat in the back, which was perfect. The restaurant has a very traditional Thai menu with all the familiar classics and favorites. We ordered: 1. Thai Basil — veggies 2. Thai Ginger — veggies 3. Massaman Curry — veggies All 3 were hits. Many times, the Thai Basil dish is made too sweet with a lot of added sugar or corn syrup, but that wasn’t the case here. It was just right and flavorful. The Thai Ginger had plenty of freshly grated ginger and I asked for it extra spicy, which they actually did. So many times they don’t take you seriously, but here, they made it perfectly. Massaman was spot on, too. None of the dishes were too oily or too salty and they were great about customizing the vegetables. There was a large variety — broccoli, cauliflower, carrot, peppers, onions, green beans. The Massaman also came with cashews and potatoes. The Thai Iced Tea was a bit on the sweet side, though. Would’ve made it less sugary. No complaints about this place at all. Everyone was friendly, accommodating, the food is delicious, and the prices are great. Perhaps just the establishment could be touched up a bit. But will absolutely be back!

Great food for great prices! The service is very quick and you do feel a bit like they are rushing you towards the end, but would definitely recommend it for a quick, tasty, cheap eat.

Aside from the Pad Thai which is comparable to some of the better ones I’ve had, everything else we had was mediocre at best. The dishes were generally pretty oily and loaded with sodium. The server kept bring us other people’s dishes as well.

So, as an avid foodie, food writer and long term Londoner I like to think I know of most,(if not all) of the«hidden gems» in Soho… I used to practically live there though of late will admit to having slowed down just a touch but even then… it’s my job to know what’s out there. BB is an expat… he’s been here about a year and I have to admit I derive a certain amount of pleasure from the one upmanship that comes with knowing all the ‘good places’ to eat in London… so when he suggesgted a trip to Thai Cottage I nodded and smiled in what was probably a somewhat patronising manner… hmmmmmmmm. Thai Cottage is rather like sitting in the living room of a Thai household in the suburbs of Bangkok… no frills, no fuss… formica tables, net curtains, those paper napkins that spread things around rather than mop anything up and a noisy large old fashioned a/c unit hanging over the diners heads. It’s owned and run and managed by ‘The Mum’ and ‘her family’ husband, grandfather, cousins, daughters and anyone else who can lend a hand which makes for a lovely warm atmosphere thought at times I would imagine a little heated. The food was good, not spectacular but good solid home cooking out of a tiny kitchen which was dishing out great Som Tum(albeit with white cabbage not papaya, we were warned and it made a great substitute) piping hot starters, spicy fresh Tom Yum, a truly fantastic beef salad, an average pad thai but extraordinary red curry and perfectly passable stirfries oh and great coconut rice. We ate very well and it was excellent value for money… the family are happy to chat for hours and a general feeling of well being pervades the restaurant… the niight we went it was packed with everyone from students to well heeled ‘meedja’ types… If you’re looking for a Thai restaurant that carves vegetables and serves ‘pretty’ food this isn’t it but if your looking for a no nonense, well cooked, fresh, home cooked thai meal… look no further… BB was very pleased with himself… some would say smug… I now need to pull a rabbit out of the hat, all suggestions welcome.

Very friendly, family run restaurant in Soho. Good authentic food, reasonably priced. Décor is not brilliant, but it’s the food you go for. Great service, good choice of food.

I really like how Thai Cottage is a melding of Thai/British cultures in the name itself. It is a funny little place that has a few tacky bits and pieces, but retains a certain level of respectability in the rest of the décor. It isn’t the classiest of restaurants, but I really like it. One of the best things about it, is the placemats that have photographs of fruit and vegetables on them. They give the place a ‘not too serious’ kind of vibe. The food is pretty good and quite cheap. The prices of main courses range from 6 – 9 pounds. Being a Thai food lover, I would recommend this place.

Thai cottage is a simple family run thai restaurant in Soho. Standard thai fare is served here, but it is served well and they will tend your needs all too well should you ask for some extra pep in your meal. A strong favourite of a good friend of mine for years, which I’ve always taken as a good sign since the man was addicted to holidaying in Thailand and spicy food. The banana in coconut milk makes for a lovely calming desert at the end of a firery meal before having a few more subsequently calming beers in one of the many nearby establishments of libation.
