The Fish House

This place is really good! The customer service was outstanding.
My sister and I were waiting on our take out order of fish cake, and the guy behind the counter offered us a fish bite sample. When he handed us our order, we got our fish cakes, more fish bites and some chips! He also suggested us to try the tartar sauce which was really good.
The fish and the chips were awesome! This place is a must try.

Our first fish & chips while staying in London. Delicious! Lightly battered, crispy & tasty. I ordered the haddock while my husband ordered the cod — both were well fried and didn’t disappoint. You have the option of dining upstairs in their actual dining room, or you could grab a couple of the window seats by the front of the store. Portions are relatively large, so be forewarned! Oh, and they don’t take Amex. Enjoy!

Definitely don’t pass up a chance to eat here. Get the cod split a large to save on the extra cost of eating in instead of take out.

Great meal! Good size portions. Pickled onions were excellent! Must order the curry sauce. Unassuming from the outside — go in the seating is upstairs.

This place is the real deal!!!
So delicious and amazing! I ordered the haddock and chips and it was so flavorful and delicious.
I also ordered the meat pie to go and that was a smash.
This is the place I started dreaming about! Can’t wait to visit again!

Just came here for a casual lunch on a Sunday afternoon. The street was crowded as it is the weekend and all the shops are open. Upon walking the staff was very friendly to me and seated me upstairs. I ordered the salmon sole, a drink (dandelion and burdock) and a custard dessert of the day.
My drink came right away, I was willing to try a new drink and he waitor had suggested it tastes very similar to coke. I gave it a try, it has some herbs in it and it tastes healthy and carbonated. I had to ask for ice later on as my drink was no long chilled and it doesn’t taste the same when it’s not cold. (£2.95 for the drink)
The salmon and sole was (£13.95) it came really deep fried, a large portion. I could not finish the chips or the fish. Personally it was too fried for me and very bland — they do have salt and pepper on tables tho! It wa so fried that I was able to seperate the fish from the fried batter very very easily. The chips was great! It was moist and not too crunchy. I loved them but I couldn’t finish the plate as it was too large of a portion. They have placemats and they were informative by telling guests where the fish is from (Norway) and the potatoes from Essex. I ended the meal with a pudding dessert which was way too sweet for me. I was hoping for a custard instead I got a sponge cake type dessert.
The service here is very slow. THere is only 1 waitor working the top floor (where most the seats are). It took me at least 15 minutes to ask for my dessert and waited another 10 minutes for it to come. Once I was done wih everything it took another 10 minutes to get his attention as get the bill.
It was a good experience but I probably would not be coming again since it was slow and the fish was personally too deep fried for me.

The restaurant is not too fancy. But it was very clean with plenty of seating. The waiter was very friendly and the fish and chips were absolutely delicious. The best lunch in London so far and for less than $ 9 a person.

Definitely the best fish and chips that I’ve gotten during my trip. The fish is lighly batter and made to order, so be careful since it will be hot. They have a takeout and dine in option with free wifi. The place is small so the wait may be a little long but is worth it!

Absolutly the best fish and chips i had in London. I tried a few more «famous» places, none compared.

The fish was nicely done — moist on the inside and crispy out the outside. We had a large order of cod and it was more than enough to share between two people. Chips on the other hand, was less than perfect. Luck of the draw, maybe?

Stopped by here with my family while on vacation in London.
The restaurant was clean and nicely decorated.
We ordered the haddock and chips and the seafood platter appetizer. The haddock was juicy and perfectly fried. Nothing special with the chips. The seafood platter was good but it was a little greasy compared to the fish. On the table, there are various condiments that you can use which was nice to have. Decent place for fish and chip.

I’m not typically one for fried food — and I’m totally horrified by the amount we consumed in London — that all said, holy deliciousness. The Fish House was exceptionally delicious. The Fish House is what is in terms of service and atmosphere, it’s a Notting Hill chippy, and it was so excellent. I had the lemon sole — a regret only because it was so flipping big — and Adam had, and devoured, the cod. I was so grateful to find a chippy that offered more than just cod — and sole at that! Delicious, well priced, and not slow when as busy as it was.

Service rapide et souriant, déco vintage et bleu pastel, à l’image de ce si joli quartier.
Le poisson est super tendre, la panure est croustillante, et des frites savoureuses: une adresse testée ET approuvée !

Impossible de comparer, c’est mon premier et unique fish and chips de ma vie. L’adresse ayant de bonnes appréciations, nous l’avons testé lors de notre excursion à notting Hill.
Verdict: excellent, le poisson est tellement tendre sous sa panure ! J’ai pris le format large: c’est ultra gourmand, la pièce de poisson dépassé de l’assiette. Et la quantité de frites n’est pas en reste: dur de finir !
Bref super première expérience. L’étoile en moins pour l’impossibilité de comparer, les frites bonnes mais pas à tomber par terre et les 14 pound qui né sont pas excessif pour le quartier mais plus cher que dans d’autre.

Mein erstes mal Fish’n’Chips in London und es war ein wahrer Gaumenschmaus! Der Fisch ist butterzart und wird im typischen Viertelfinale frittiert und mit einer selbstgemachten Remoulade serviert. Die Pommes frites sind ebenfalls grandios! Man schmeckt, dass alles ganz frisch zubereitet wird. Extra Remoulade gibt es auf Anfrage (ohne Mehrkosten).
Die Bedienung ist sehr zuvorkommend und freundlich. Ein paar Worte auf deutsch können sie auch ;).
Alles in allem war es ein gelungener Abend. Das Restaurant wird mich hoffentlich bald Wiedersehen.

I came across this place while walking to the underground hungry. It looked nice and they have an emphasis on sustainable fishing — which is great.
We ordered the chicken pie and small cod.
The pie was clearly made, not bought and was almost perfect. The pastry wasn’t overwhelming and the pie had a nice mushroom and chicken taste. My only comment would be that there needs to be more chicken bits.
The cod was nice and was cooked just right rather than too long. The small size is quite generous so many might find it suitable for a lunch rather than being tempted to order a larger one.
The chips, are perhaps the best thing about this place. Perfectly cooked so they are crispy but not greasy. They tasted great! Wish I could eat chips like this more often.

We heard the sayings fish and chips in London is a touristy thing blah blah blah. All I care about is if the fish is battered and fried well and the chips are hot and crispy. This definitely is a cool spot it has the upstairs dining area that kinda feels like you are in a pseudo seaside diner because of the white paint, wooden table and sea blue paneling color scheme.
I ordered the large haddock with chips, wifey ordered the cod with chips. The fish and the chips were fresh out of the fryer hot, lovin’ it already. Both came with lemon and mayo tartar. The serving portion was literally a 10 inch piece of fish, no joke. Chips were exactly how they should be done anywhere with just the right amount of salt, crispy and mmm mmm good. The fish was superb, the haddock from Norway had a nice cross flavor between halibut and cod with that fresh fish flesh chew. The cod, equally superb with a wonderful flaky texture. The batter was awesome, perfect balance of crunch, density and flavor.
Miss out on this place, shame on you. Cheers to all who go and try.

Alles wird direkt frisch zubereitet.
Die Portion ist relativ groß.
Ich finde den Preis mit knapp 9 Pound aber eher sehr hoch.
Außerdem würde ich mir etwas Soße dazu wünschen, aber vielleicht ist das auch eher etwas typisch deutsches
Was ich sagen kann ist, dass es zwar ganz lecker war, ich aber weltweit durchaus auch schon bessere Fish & Chips gegessen habe.

We live in the US and always looking for decent fish and chips when visiting London.
We found this place along the way to Portobello St Market.
They have a variety of fish: cod, haddock, sole, etc.
We had the regular portion (£6.75) of cod and of haddock.
Both were prepared excellent… tasty and crisp, but not excessively greasy.
They also have a small portion (£5.50) and a large portion (£7.75).
A small order of chips (£2.50) was ok and plentiful.
So among a dozen places tried… this ranks very high on the chart for the price quantity and quality.
The staff was friendly and helpful too.

Not the best fish and chips I’ve had, but not the worst either. They were quite crispy which was great. The drawback for me was the skin was left on. Ew. And it came off and stuck to the inside of my mouth. Very gross. Not sure if that is how they are all the time or if it was just a bad piece. Also, when I went, on a Friday night the sitting area was closed. So it was take away only. I didn’t ask why, but maybe call first if you want to sit down.

We sought after delicious Fish and Chips in London and this place certainly did deliver that! The décor was cute and the place was clean. I ordered the regular cod and chips, it was the best I have ever had. I am sure I would have been good with the small. The tartar sauce was good, not great. The mushy peas much to my surprise were good! The service however was poor (really slow and not friendly) which is why I am not giving a 5 star rating, also the prices are higher for sitting down than taking out.

Although it has great perfectly crispy fish, the chips are craving for the same crispness of the fish batter. Service could be friendlier. Beer is great. Fish and the chips could be slightly saltier. Good place for groups and kids.

Delicious fish and chips. Not too overly fried tasting. Huge portions though not cheap. The wait staff was friendly and the décor was very cute. Best fish and chips I’ve had to date !!

The best i’ve tried so far~
After a a long walk from the Westborne park area down Portobello Market my friend and I were starving. He was visiting from Germany and wanted to eat Fish & Chips. i was not familiar with the area so i hit up google… and this place was on the top 5 places for Fish & Chips and we were right in front of it. So decided not to venture far… and ever since then i’ve been a total fan and this is where i take all my friends. It’s not cheap… but the quality of food is great in my opinion.
What i like:
1. FOOD FOOD FOOD-​the batter is crispy and the fish is flaky & fresh
2. Ambiance– very cute & clean cottage on the beach feel.
3. Staff is SUPER friendly and cool. And very helpful for suggestions.
