No bar staff at the bar on entering the pub. Waited a minute then went looking for someone to serve us. Another 2 customers arrived. Waited another minute. I went & knocked on the kitchen door & a woman came out - was totally unapologetic then didn’t serve me but went to serve one of the other customers! We walked out. Very poor!!

We have ordered pizza and cider in the evening. The service was pretty nice and very fast. The food was tasty and smelled fresh :) we would visit again!

This isn’t the most fun pub in New Cross but it’s the most… respectable. A good range of beers and friendly service but most importantly some really great pizza. I can particularly recommend the one with squash on it, just the right amount of oily salty badness.

This place is symbolic of the gentrification of the neighborhood but I guess I am gentry because I liked it. Very spacious and excellent attentive service. Massive menu with wood-oven pizzas, lots of hot dogs, wings with different sauces – massive menu. Might not have a tremendous amount of unique character, but the food was good, service was great and atmosphere was very good.

There I was thinking the Rose Inn was the best pub in the area, one with a beer garden and pizza oven … and along came the New Cross House with an even nicer beer garden and more pizza. What’s going one?! This seems to be the default destination for Goldsmiths students and the place was teaming with people on the night of this year’s MFA Private View. It has a cleaner, gastro pub look and feel to it and I was actually quite surprised that we weren’t all heading for the rougher looking New Cross Inn across the road — students’ tastes and budgets have changed since my days … Beers, wine and food were all lovely and there was a great vibe all around. When it started raining everyone piled into the small upstairs area overlooking the beer garden — definitely my favourite feature of this place, it has a real fairytale feel to it.

My favourite pub in New Cross by a country mile this. Great staff, great brews, great patio area, but most importantly — SUCHGOODGRUB. If you feel as strongly about halloumi as I know, the deep fried, bread-crumbed halloumi dippers will change your life. Life changing. Yes I said that. I mean it.

The staff are ok though the manager is a total gentleman. Good place to go with a few friends for pre drinks. The food is great. Have a beer and shoot out someplace open later but can’t fault it for what it is, a decent evening pub.

I really really enjoy hanging out at New Cross House, as a couple of young professionals rather than students we wanted to find an eatery where we can sit and chill out. The beer garden at the back is ace, with a little covered area if you wish to brave the weather. The atmosphere is laid back and welcoming and they serve English Ales which pleases the boyfriend rather. In terms of food they serve both wood fired pizzas and a range of other treats. I have tried the sweet potato burger, the ribs and also the pizzas and they are all really really well cooked and presented, with the portion sizes being very generous. A pizza is about £10 a glass of wine around £4.50 and £4.00 for a glass of ale. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a pub in New Cross.

Definitely the ‘nicest’ place in New Cross, i. e the one to take your parents to after graduation. The drinks ARE quite expensive, but if you’re looking for cheap beer the very similarly named New Cross Inn across the road is where you should be going. The food is reasonably priced for what you get, although the ordering system is a bit strange(tab/no tab, you MUST order drinks at the bar but you have wait for someone to come to your table for your food order– sort it out!). They’ve got board games and Wi-Fi if you’re just there to kill time– nice beer garden too!

The drinks are a bit more pricy than other pubs in the area. The food is probably the main reason you come here. Their pizzas are made fresh in their wood fire, stone oven. They have a great selection on offer, hopefully catering to all tastes. They have an extensive outdoor seating area, with an interesting place to sit upstairs for some food or quite drinks. You get some students, but not as many as the Hobgoblin down the street. It’s a great atmosphere and if you’re in the area, I definitely recommend stopping by for some food and maybe a drink. Perfect for a chilled summer evening with a few mates.

Really sad cause it used to be my favourite venue. Since the pub company was bought by the youngs group everything declined. I was there on a Sunday for a pizza, but they couldn’t do them. Fair enough, but they also ran out of all their roasts apart from the vegetarian option. When I ordered a hotdog, they came back and said I couldn’t have one cause they also ran out. Now I understand sometimes things happen. But, when you then refuse to make me a side salad that’s on the menu, because the chef doesn’t know how to make one… That kinda crosses the line. Only get 2 stars for your beer selection and your awesome tree house out back

Came here one Sunday looking for a hearty lunch with a friend who had just ran her first half marathon(my boyfriend«ran a marathon with his eyes» whilst searching out the crowds for her, so he was super hungry too…) She lives nearby so this is her local. On a Sunday they don’t offer their pizzas which I understand is on their menu during the week, but rather they offer a Sunday roast menu, amongst other things such as burgers, salads etc. It is a big pub with lots of tables and a nice outdoors area. The toilets are disgustingly filthy — seriously really gross which is a big let down in a pub which is otherwise nice & clean. I know nobody likes cleaning bathrooms which other people use but come on!!! The drinks prices are average — actually I think fairly expensive for the area, as is the price for food, however, the potions are big and the food is seriously delicious so I can’t complain — I’d rather pay more & made sure I got good quality. I had the chicken roast. I was starving but it was so much food I only managed half. A friend of my friend asked for a doggy bag for my plate so he could eat it for his dinner later on — ha. Service is really slow — so come before you get to the gnawing your arm off in hunger stage. We spent all afternoon here slowly drinking pints & having a big old chat, and it was a lovely place to do it in. Will definitely be back(even though the bus between mine and new cross takes about ten thousand years)

Ok, I did finally eat here, after having many many drinks, and I was nonplussed with the vegetarian foot-long dog. It was dry and tasteless(and no, this is not what I’m used to from vegetarian food. I was a happy veggie for 7 years.) I asked for some jalapenos on the side, to liven it up, and it took about 10 minutes for them to arrive, only after I asked another server if they were on their way. Sure they were busy, but good customer service was not happening. So that was a bit of a let-down. But, I will give the food another try. My friend had a pizza and I was wishing I’d ordered that! I asked, and the dough is *lactose free*, so I’m happy about that.(I often have cheeseless pizzas — don’t knock it till you’ve tried it!)

Visited here recently with a group for Sunday lunch. Love the look of the place, light and airy with plenty of seating and friendly service despite being a bit slow on occasion. A pretty varied menu and I was expecting pretty good things considering the price of the dishes. Sunday lunch starts from £11 for the veggie option and £13 for pork, beef or chicken. Other items included foot long hot dogs and fries for £7.50 and beer battered fish and chips. We ordered a mixture of dishes including the three different meat roasts, nachos, the hot dogs and the fish and chips. We didn’t have to wait long as it wasn’t too busy. My spicy butternut squash soup with ciabatta was nice at £6, but the roast was somewhat underwhelming. The nachos were tasty and a thin crispy garlic bread mopped up the remaining chilli. It’s definitely not the worst meal I’ve had, but with New Cross being the poor man’s Shoreditch and despite it being my local, value for money it ain’t, and I left pretty disappointed. The quantity if that’s what your after is there, but my roast lunch comrades were certainly not impressed. Venture out a little further to East Dulwich and you’ll find something little more on par for what you are paying for. In future for a Sunday lunch I’ll be heading to the better value Amersham Arms down the road for a fab roast, which also happens to serve my drink of choice; fresh mint tea with a drop of honey.

Table football and ping pong… This place has without a doubt the best beer garden in South East London that I’ve been to. A large, spacious two-storey barn with wood burning fires and sofas, this is a stark contrast to the previous management’s urine fragranced shed. The drinks, whilst pricey for the area are high quality, with an excellent selection of ales and posh lagers. All of this is complimented by a huge open kitchen complete with pizza oven. The food is modern and fresh at agreeable value. They also do take away on the pizza. The only flaw is a table service system that has gone awry on more than one occasion. In my opinion they’d be better off taking orders at the bar. I’m going to go and think about Pizza now. Good night…

I had no hope for this place but it proved me wrong. Taking over from the tragic predecessor, the Goldsmiths Tavern that once had a great history in the area crashed and burned in its final leg, is the trendy, chicke, clean New Cross House. There was no way a city bar was going to survive in student dominated New Cross. The prices would be too high, the food too posh, the place too clean. But none of these things have alienated the munchkins and indeed brings a new crowd into the area. This is now the go to destination in New Cross and rightly so. It’s huge and caters for all. Inside has clean tables for dining and booths for drinking. The wonder begins outside with a large beer garden, again with ample seating, and what I can only describe as a two floored out-house. Even in the rain, you can be outside, but inside. May this place continue to prove me wrong.

Great space, seating is cool with the little booths. Great selection of beers and the outside area and treehouse is impressive as well(although if you are sitting in the lower part do the tree house, beware of spillages from above seeping though). All in all a great place to hangout and have a few beers. Firday nights are good for a bit of a boogey and Sundays are great for chilling there. Service on Sundays was slow but recently seems to have been rectified.

Since the New Cross House opened it’s been the place to be for me in New Cross, it’s got a good vibe, lots of space and does really yummy food. We normally start here and make our way over to the Amersham Arms for the end of the night as it’ open till much later. My only criticism is that you have to wait to be served at your table to order food and I’ve occasionally had to ask several times and wait 10 – 15 minutes before someone has seen to us.
